I Need a one "Tactical" feature Rifle

Unless I missed it in the posts above, it looks like the Mini-14 and Mini-30 (non-tactical versions) and M-1 carbine would also slide through the restrictions.

I'd be happy with any of those for defending home and hearth -- though they may not be quite the "tactical" you're looking for...

The SKS is a creditable rifle. I'd take the cash you were going to use on another gun and go to a rifle class with the SKS.

Looks like some states want it's citizens to
only be protected from thugs using flint locks. :eek:

Why is it that these states want to under arm their people
and leave them to be outgunned by the BGs?

I think you should consider moving too.
Some of these states are committing suicide with
their insane 'over regulation' and 'over taxation'.
New York being one of them, apparently. :rolleyes:

Are bolt actions really considered "tactical" rifles? I know I'm green but I would think a semi auto would get the call for "tactical".

Also, I would get more recommedations like Bushmaster or something like it. I think I am just going to get Bushmaster, but shoot they aren't cheap.

The M1A is legal in NY state as is with the flash hider (sans bayo lug) you don't need to get the CA model, that is why it is called the CA model not the NY and CA model.

Yeah, I misread Nick's post of what is considered an "assault weapon" there. I thought it said "detachable mag and any of the following", but it said "any two of the following."

Actually the NYC ban is any one of the following.

Shoot, I could have had a real gun while I lived in NYC? Oh well at least I don't have to deal with that 6 month/expensive permit process now that I'm moving to suburbs.

Actually the NYC ban is any one of the following.

NYC has it's own very restictive gun laws as do other cities like buffalo and others

Yes like I said there are not many rifle types that are actually banned, they just have to be tweaked a bit.

No, if it is not semi auto OR does not have a removeable magazine then it does not fall under the Assault Weapon Law.

Also, I would get more recommedations like Bushmaster or something like it. I think I am just going to get Bushmaster, but shoot they aren't cheap.

There are many options. Saigas (7.62x51, 7.62x39, 5.45 and 5.23 versions) are good, Reminton has some camoed AR's made by DPMS and Bushmaster (AR10 and AR15) that were more affordable because of the color, DPMS makes the sportical, Ruger mini-14 and mini-30, you can get a Garand from the CMP for $600, an M1 Carbine, The Kel-Tec rifles, or finally a chinese M1A, oh yeah and the SKS.

I Need a one "Tactical" feature Rifle.... I already have an SKS on the way (my first gun) but I want something more "tactical" while I still have the chance.
Need, or want?

I can't have more than that in my state. Should I just get an SU-16?
Apparently your intention is to 'lock-in' ownership of a partially-restricted firearm, out of concern that it will later be banned and then become unavailable to purchase. And you say that you can only have one example.

Given the above, I'd say pony up the cash and get the best MBR that you can afford: an AR-10, a genuine FN-FAL (or L1A1), a Sig AMT, something like that. Getting a cheapo Kel-Tec would be pointless.

Tactical is ... (see below).

If my understanding is correct and the M1A is legal, and you want tactical, look at the SOCOM 16 or SOCOM II.

My 16 is my go to, hurricane, mutant zombie biker, ninja repellent.... well you get the picture.

Does the Saiga fall under the
(i) Norinco, Mitchell, and Poly Technologies Avtomat Kalashnikovs (all
models);
(ii) Action Arms Israeli Military Industries UZI and Galil;
clause?

16

The SOCOM is an excellent choice especially when you add SEI's SOCOM muzzle device kit and gas plug.
