If you were to move to a PRO-GUN state, which one?

I'm from CA too and will leave one day and I've always been interested in Nevada. It's close, gun friendly, fireworks friendly (another thing I'd enjoy greatly), doesn't seem to be badly weathered, and family is still nearby. I'd like more information on it though. If I get my wish, then I'm on my way to Next Door Nevada.

I'm liking it in Tennessee

The climate is mild. The people are friendly. Schools are OK depending on your neighborhood. Lots of church schools and private schools. No waiting to buy a gun, and no limit on number you can purchase. Free shooting range 30 minutes from home (Chattanooga). CCW permits are common. Some people carry out in the open, and get hassled a bit, but get away with it. All in all, gun friendly.

Vt. is good (lived there for 25 yr). You'll need to bring your job with you, not many there, (Dairying lumbering). You could try Burlington, but no one in Vt. considers it to be part of VT. Beautiful lake, nice folks. Winter...you can get used to the cold and snow, but dang it lasts a long time.

AK...spent some time flying in the bush out of Ft. Yukon (which for all practical purposes is on the Arctic Circle). Along about March (temps -40 and lower) when summer is still a long ways away the folks from Ft. Yukon go to Vt. for vacation. Bugs ...The combined mass of all the biting insects residing in AK exceeds the combined mass of all the mammals in AK by a fair bit. (no pun intended). But then there's Juneau and Ketchikan...do you like rain?:D

Noone seems to have mentioned Florida... Any reasons as to why? They seem pretty good, F rating from the Brady Bunch. And If I recall correctly, their non-resident permit is good in 23 states. Or I'm an idiot. Is there something I'm missing?

Texas is NOT the best pro-gun state.

In fact, I find it to be quite ANTI-GUN. That's right, it's a myth.

There are many places that you cannot CCW. Open carry is forbidden. These are not signs of a pro-gun state.

Texas, however, requires signs for prohibited locations. They at least got that right.

Texas is outstanding. What we might lack (co$t of CHL) is more than made up for in attitude and mind set regarding firearms.

Lived here most all my life. You can enjoy deep sea fishing, mountain climbing, doing 150mph+ between Junction and Fort Stockton with 20 mile line of sight and hunt trophy deer til your arms cramp!

Come on! San Antonio just had a monster Toyota plant open, Microsoft is moving here and the food is great!

High temp on Friday will be 71. :O)

I escaped Michigan 35 years ago for Missouri and never looked back- Biggie for me is that I'm 50 minutes from one of the premier ranges anywhere

Arizona is great. Easy CCW, open carry. Carrying concealed without a permit has just recently been downgraded to a fine-able civic misconduct offense, not a felony... so if you haven't got your CCW yet and feel compelled to carry for some reason, it won't alter your life forever.

The big guns are all available here, and there are lots of places to shoot.

I've heard that Wyoming is outstanding... they are so liberty-oriented that a sherriff there stood up to the FBI (or maybe ATF? can't remember) and kicked them out of his jurisdiction for having an operation and not notifying him of it.

It's a bit far for you but you asked what I'd do, soooo... Me? I'd move to Vermont as it's only a stones throw away.

NM is good, but could be better. We still have stupid laws concerning CCW and liquor sales.

Just returned from a quick trip through Texas, things are much better now than when I went to High School there. I was able to carry into the Wal-Mart, into decent restaurants, into the local gas station or stop-and-rob. Didn't see a single 51% or 30.06 sign in Amarillo, Wichita Falls, Ft. Worth, or Houston.

...Vermont is very gun-friendly. Don't even need a special permit to carry concelaed there.

An enigma within a riddle. Somebody help with this. Isn't Vermont one of the most liberal states there is. It is however the least populated I believe, and perhaps gun contol isn't needed or an issue... yet.

North Dakota. You could buy a fairly large house for 30,000-70,000 bucks. Everyone's friendly to you, people know how to drive, and it's one of the most gun-loving states in the union. If you're a hunter, fisherman, or just like to shoot, it's the place for you. Us North Dakotans call the state "God's Country" and we believe it wholeheartedly. One of the problems with the state is if you move to a small town, it's hard to find a job that has progession in it, as most of it is family owned and ran.

From time to time we have these "CCW Friendly?" threads

It would probably help if one would qualify their climatic preferences #1, and then their vocational skills

Here (Northern Indiana), it's probably about as gun friendly as you're gonna get. No open carry, but CCW is a breeze. Evil black rifles are in my safe. Lots of public ranges. Hunters are the rule rather than the exception.

Climate...yeah, we actually have all four seasons. Right now it's 15 degrees outside with 12" of snow. In the summer it's typically in the 70's-80's. We get an average of 5 days above 90. Less than 4% unemployment.

AZ is great. i recently moved from the city to the suburbs, and it's a nice place to raise a family if i were to have one, while still being close enough to everything in the city. the Phoenix metro area is very spread out with quite a few family friendly suburbs.

as far as guns, we have:

-shall issue CCW (5 years)
-legal open carry
-no waiting period for gun purchases
-private party transfers with no paperwork
-good outdoor/indoor ranges
-full capacity magazines for all weapons
-shooting clubs & organizations

within a couple hours of the city, we have beautiful pine forests, mountains for skiing and climbing, rivers and lakes for fishing and recreation, plenty of state land for hunting and hiking, and beautiful weather 9 months a year.

my friends joke that i should go work for the board of tourism, since i love AZ so dearly.

I've always heard good things about Vermont. Is it really that good up there? I'm looking for a place to move to where I'm a bit more "free" I'm not used to all the laws and regulations that get slapped on me here in GA...referrinf to other stuff, not gun related.
One potential downside to Vermont is, ironically, the fact that they don't require and don't offer a CCW at all. If you like to travel in other states, some states that offer non-resident permits won't issue one if you don't have one from your home state. New Hampshire, just across the river from Vermont, has a similar climate, fewer yuppies, and an inexpensive CCW that is itself recognized by a handful of states, and opens the door to many others that issue non-res permits.

Florida. hunting is allowed. dont know if we're pro-gun or not. but hey, in the off-season its all girls at the beaches. so both ways u win
