If you were to move to a PRO-GUN state, which one?

I've often said I would move to AZ if family didn't keep me in Chicago occupied Illinois. The first time I visited, maybe 11 years ago, It zapped my brain to see open carry. More than that, the place feels like a free state. It seemed like the place where the frontier closed. I guess that's largly true.

Virginia doesn't have the wide open spaces of the southwest, but it's not bad. Just stay far away from the semi-independent land known as Northern Virginia -- there be monsters there!

Not all of us! ... Last I checked, NoVA is home to the HQ's of both the NRA & VCDL.

An enigma within a riddle. Somebody help with this. Isn't Vermont one of the most liberal states there is. It is however the least populated I believe, and perhaps gun contol isn't needed or an issue... yet.

Vermont isn't without problems anymore than any other state but gun ownership and carrying aren't two of them. (So far.);)

My wife & I moved from New York when Hillary took over. We went to Indiana and have not looked back. We put up with Chucky Schumer for too long, but when the B*tch came in, we had to go.

Alabama isn't half bad, except for Birmingham. My former home town is now all the way bad and is looking towards implementing some of the dubious measures from Boston, of all places, in the effort to "cut the homicide rate."
(Our local news boasted that Boston's homicide rate was cut by something like 12 or 18 percent because of these "measures" (whatever they are.)

OK, I think I really need to move!

I am most satisfied living in NW Arizona. Property in my area is relatively low priced. Employment is a bit on the slow side but it really depends on what you are looking for. The summer temps get up around 120 but hey, that's what they invented A/C for.

NM is good, but could be better. We still have stupid laws concerning CCW and liquor sales

I believe there are several bills up for consideration before the NM legislature to address this problem. SB111 appears to be the best and would remove the prohibition on concealed carry in places that sell alcohol for consumption elsewhere (grocery stores, Walmart, etc). It's not a complete fix, but a big step in the right direction.

Oh. Wait. You said "good schools."

We ARE talking about somewhere within the United States, right?

the above is a legit comment, if you want decent schools (and i assume you mean for you kids to go to) DO NOT move to Texas. If my step-daughter were school age still instead of 20, My wife and i would not be waiting till 2011 for Annie (wife) to reach her 20 year anniversary with DOW chemical, we'd have already moved to NC (where i grew up)

NC while far from perfect, and not exactly "gun friendly" by my standards is at least "gun friendly enough to deal with", does not have as shoddy of a school system (least when i left in '99) and has in my oppinion a MUCH better climate (yes i absolutely HATE texas summers).
when my wife and i visited NC to see my parents back in march of '06 (her first time there, except for a short portion of a road trip 30 years ago, at night), we came within a hairsbreadth, of saying to heck with it and finding a way to not have to come back to Texas except to get our belongings.;)

I would add a vote for Colorado but the dems just took control of the state gov and the new govenor Ritter is not real gun friendly.. I moved here from the liberal northeast to get back some of my rights, now I'm worried about CO.. So I'm going to suggest Wyoming, Arizona, Alaska, New Hampshire or a boat in international waters...

MN - you can pack pistol or long gun and open carry. "shall issue" with background check and training. hard to beat.

FLORIDA

We are a VERY pro-gun state. We are shall issue CCW, NFA weapons OK, Catsle Doctrine + (first state to pass) Stand Your Ground laws, no rifle/shotgun waiting period, no handgun wait with CCW, no permit to own guns req, no limit to number of gun buys per month, no registration, no AWbans, can buy shotgun/rifles from contiguous states, great reciprocity, etc.

Plus, we have sunny tropical weather and beaches.

Move to TEXAS! Born and raised here, I love it. Guns are like breathing here, everyone seems to have one.

One of the only places were I've seen the "Keep Honking, I'm Reloading" bumper stickers with any regular consistancy.

I spent some time in Vermont also, and it is beautiful. I would live there in a heartbeat.

North Dakota. You could buy a fairly large house for 30,000-70,000 bucks. Everyone's friendly to you, people know how to drive, and it's one of the most gun-loving states in the union. If you're a hunter, fisherman, or just like to shoot, it's the place for you. Us North Dakotans call the state "God's Country" and we believe it wholeheartedly. One of the problems with the state is if you move to a small town, it's hard to find a job that has progession in it, as most of it is family owned and ran.

Here here! That's quite true. But don't make light of the ND weather! That wind, oh god that wind...

I'm an immigrant to Eastern South Dakota (when I was 12), but it's starting to grow on me, a bit - culturally. The overall package appeal of the Rapid City area is great, with the one exception that it'd be difficult for me to find a job in the area in IT.

I do need to figure out where I'm going to move, though, as I'm done with school here shortly. I'm thinking Montana, (northern Flagstaff area) Arizona, and if I can manage it Rapid City, SD area. Maybe rural Pennsylvania, as I was born there and grew up in NY to some degree, and my family is in NY. But it's not that pro-gun in PA, either - not compared to what I'm used to, at least. Too much JBT behavior from the cops, and too many libs.

Anyone in Rapid City, SD want to hire an IT guy? :p

Oh, and as for your wish list... such a beast does not exist. Not in conjunction with employment opportunities and "city" living.

I was going to throw in something like what cuda said about Colorado.

For years we've been resisting "California" and in the last Legislative elections some very wealthy leftists threw beaucoup bucks at a couple of targeted legislative seats and leftists won them.

To be sure, recently we've had some really lackluster candidates from the right-ish side who did not seem to really want public office.

The other problem we have, in my opinion, is getting pro-gun folks in agrarian areas to vote with a pro-gun viewpoint. While much agriculture in Colorado has been taken over by national and multinational interests, the family-owned farm folks don't seem to get excited about the issue. They can shoot off their back porches all day if they want to, and don't seem to realize that the encroachments on the Second Amendment which originate in the cities will affect them directly sooner or later.

Right now, it's pretty gun friendly, but most of us are leery of the new legislature and the new governor suddenly getting all self-righteous and do-goodery and falling prey to the likes of Tom Mauser and the Brady Bunch. I have no doubt that Governor Ritter has been heavily bombarded with anti-gun propaganda and excellent strategic advice from these sources.

We also have a distinct problem with illegal aliens running around loose and "somehow" getting the right to vote.

I guess theres always Alaska especially if you love the cold. I guess if I was to move from NC though for a more gun friendly state it probrobly be Vermont.

Man......I would love to live in either Arizona or Florida.
Wonder, how is the job market there.

As far as I am being a Canadian is concern, maybe I am just going to move from Toronto to Calgary.

You'd fit right in in south Florida. About half the license plates that we see on I-95 during the summer are from Ontario:neener:
They keep the south Florida doctors in good shape.
Florida is a good gun state, so is NH (as I live in Florida now, but still try to get back to NH when I can).

"Suburbs of Pittsburgh."

Me too. Oh wait, I dont need to move Im already there. I live 15 Min from 2 indoor ranges. And 15 min from 2 private gun clubs with indoor and outdoor ranges. Oh and 5 min from the closest gun shop. Guns are still pretty well recieved around here.

Georgia is working out well.
Good weather.
NFA friendly.
Zero restrictions on handgun purchases (no different than mundane long guns).
Easy CCW.

Only negative is the "No CCW to alcohol-serving restraunts or public gatherings."

Can't speak to schools. Private Montessori schools seem common. Home schooling is a good idea.

I have lived here in AK all my life... I tell ya what, its easy to escape the misquitos if stay in sunlight or rent a AntiAircraft gun :D (just kidding). City of Fairbanks does not require residents to have a Permit to conceal a firearm (that might have changed), and i can say that i saw a barrett in a sporting goods store a while back..
not to mention a few public indoor ranges and plenty of popular riverside areas in the interior that have burnt up abandoned vehicles that make great shooting spots.

so if ya like the cold and have the will fight off misquitos... come on up
also, no big cities... anchorage might count... i dunno, my city is smaller... so thats the less of a drive to an outdoor spot or even hunting
P.S. I am also willing to disprove rumors such as "its always winter" or "we all live in igloos" ;)
