I'm happy with all my guns and I hate it

SKS=Crap IMO

Mosins = thought about it but the idea of buying a 70 year old rifle that may or may not shoot and might even blow up in my face puts the brakes on that

WWII German Mausers = now that's an idea worth considering

What is wrong with an SKS?

Get the 91/30 headspaced, and if it cheks out, shoot the crap out of it. It's a Russian gun, there is not much you can do to hurt it.

Mauser - I sceond that idea. Nothing like a finely tuned Mauser working.

I have only been into the whole gun thing for about four years. I have purchased 7 guns in that time, and I have no interest in buying another one. I love shooting what I have. I don't know when I would have time to shoot another one. So this year, instead of asking myself which gun I'll buy, I've decided to put the money into training classes so that I can enjoy the guns that I already own even more.

Besides, training stores well.

Lots'a SKS' show up at the 3 ranges I tend to shoot at. I've seen some that look like they've been to war (and lost), some that have been taken care of and one with custom stock and high dollar scope. Not one of 'em could shoot worth a crap - not one. 50 yards and minute of pie plate was it. Even the SKS dropped into a custom synthetic stock with 4-12X Bushnell on it could only group in about 4" at 50 yards.

Maybe I've just been unlucky at the examples of SKS' I've happened across (most were owned by what I would describe as a bubba with the exception of that custom stock one which was owned by a 30 something lawyer type with more money than GOD - why he put bucks into that POS rifle I'll never know - he called it a neat project) so that might explain the poor performance but even at a measly $100 to $150 a pop for one I'd much rather spend those dollars on something a bit more utilitarian.

Besides I've got a Saiga Rifle in 7.62X39 that shoots just fine - even with my old eyes (aided by Red Dot) and unsteady hands I can get 4" groups at 100 yds with it.

Nope - don't need nor want an SKS...

I too was satisfied with the guns I had and then got into reloading then got good at that so now I have started building my own guns. Granted they are AR-15's and rather easy to build but it is fun taking the time to pick out all the pieces and put together what you really want in an AR. I am also playing with rebuilding a mosin nagant right now.

My sks will break 4 inch clay pidgeons at 100 yards. It is fun to play with. When I want accurate I go to my AR with an ultra match barrel.

in order to not spend all my money on guns and to be content, I have made a promise to myself. Only 7 long guns, and only 7 Handguns. That is it. So, once I meet the limit I can only trade. Need to simplify and be content. Save money for other things like house, wife, etc.... And for hunting trips where I can actually use my guns! So far the Long gun collection is complete (4 rifles, 1 muzzle loader, and 2 shotguns) the Handgun collection is at 5, so can buy 2 more (maybe another HKP7 and a custom 1911).
