I've been waiting for 4 months, and finally got notice that my NY carry permit has been approved and I will get it late this week, or early next. I've hunted for a long time, owned many shotguns and rifles, and for a short time had carry priveleges because I worked for a sheriff's department. But this will be the first time in 15 years I'll be able to own a handgun. What prompted it is the fact I'll be bear hunting with the bow in Maine this August and for years have borrowed a friend's .44 while bear hunting up there. This year, there won't be any borrowing, and I've ordered a Taurus M-44 which will be in at my local gunshop about the same time my permit comes around. I've also layed-away a Bersa Thunder .380 for a concealed carry piece. When I used to carry years ago, I enjoyed it, and look forward to carrying concealed once again. Are these the two guns that most people would've picked? No, I know they aren't, but money is a consideration and I feel these two will perform the functions for which they've been selected. Thanks to THR, my endless (4 months!) of research tells me that, at least, these are guns that I can depend on, even if they are not high-end. I also have a Springfield 1911 on my shopping list, and a Ruger GP-100, but those will come in good time.
For now, I am like a kid on Christmas Eve.
Just thought I'd pass along the good news.
