March Rimfire Match:

Purdy neat, Jim. I am planning to build an elevated shooting platform to extend my range past 500 sometime in the near future. Just have to find some telephone poles...and the time to tinker with it.

:)

Nope, piedmont region near Charlotte...pretty much my backyard (I live near a powerline cut).

:)

Nice shooting Jim - especially for shooting prone!

I have a way to go on positions but weather's finally getting a little nicer so I'll be working more on them. Crediting these informal shoots for the progress I made last year as previously I was too lazy to work at it. Lots to work on too...:uhoh:

Sounds like you made a nice place to shoot. I'm fortunate in that my club is not too far from my home and I can complete a shooting evolution in a few hours. Only 200 yards max range, can only wish for Mav's 500 yards!

Calling for fair weather tomorrow (30% chance of showers in the morning). Do you know anywhere local that sells Wolf Match? I need to try some in the new bbl, but I don't want to commit to buying a much without trying it first, nor do I want to pay loads of shipping for just one box.

I'm hoping to try my hand at a little 300yd. shooting (weather permitting)...sounds uneventful doesn't it?...I plan to use the .22LR! I'll update with results...and targets if they are worthy of posting.

:)

Oh, when you mentioned your BIL lives on LKN and you often visit I just assumed that you lived nearby...don't think i'll be heading to OH to get ammo. hehehe. :D

Come to think of it, I am pretty sure I know of a place that has it (they sell Eley Tenex, Lapua Midas+, et cetera...one would think they'd have lowly Wolf), but I don't patronize the place (their selection is indicative of their clientele and attitude towards anyone halfway knowledgeable and/or not dressed in Armani)...I think i'll just add a box to the next Midway order.

:)

Well, I'll be back out to the range on Sunday the 20th. I'm fairly sure I got my sights close to where they were before, so getting them back on point shouldn't be to much of a pain once I get up there. I'm taking an old friend of mine who hasn't used a pistol before and hasn't used a rifle in quite some time, I'm sure we'll have a grand ole time either way, will post targets when I get back, I won't be leaving the range till I get at least an 11. :)

NP, Jeff. BPS doesn't carry any match save for low end Eley and CCI Green Tag. I think ordering it will be the way to go (CSS is great, but I need a few things from MidwayUSA so i'll probably just add a box for testing to my order).

:)

Greetings, all. Here's a "10" shot last week. The 8th hole is a squeaker, but it did just cut the black. Mav, another well chosen, challenging target!!

CZ-452, Weaver 3-9, sandbags on a bench. SK Standard + ammo.

Lookin' good, P51D. Don't credit me for the target, a fellow member (who wanted to remain anonymous) donated this one...I, too, believe he did a good job, though perhaps he was right about the 18 hole version (I honestly figured it would be too difficult). If you guys would like we can make that one next month's target (for magnified only).

:)

Hey P51D,
Maybe I should have posted all the targets I shot before getting the 9. I had 'em all the way up to 15 trying to gauge the wind that morning. Finally it settled down and I managed to barely squeak by.

I don't think I could have done it with the Romanian M69 .22. Had to use the much flatter shooting .17Mach2 they both have the BSA "Sweet" series scopes on them.

On my friend's range, the permanent shooting bench is 100 yards back from the targets, so if I want to shoot outdoors at 25 or 50, I have to use a mat and shoot from the prone. (I doubt if I could even hit the paper offhand any more and kneeling would be a real challenge with my bad knee.) Prone over a sand bag is my favorite though and that used to be my best position on my unit's team when I was in the army as well. We always shot national match Garands rather than the M14 and I really think the Garand was a more accurate rifle.

Kansas is living up to it's legendary winds this year, that's for sure -- right now it's blowing 25 gusting to 35 or better. Temp's going to get up around 80 today according to the local weather "guessers".

Jim

It would separate the shooters from the lucky guys Mav. Too bad that would count me out of contention.
No kidding; i'd be right there with ya...I have this funny feeling that my 10s would turn into 30s. :uhoh:

Great shooting, Jeff; I agree with your assessment of hole no. 7.

I think it's about time for an updated leaderboard:

Outstanding shooting Jeff,
That 7 hole shot clearly breaks the black - I had two just about that close that I called hits too - Mav is the judge of 'em but he has both of us tied on the leaderboard and I ain't got a problem with that.

Maybe we ought to score the hits completely inside the dots as X's and if that goes forward, you clearly have me beat on this one.

What say Maverick? I'd think that would be a fair tie-breaker.

Jim -

Outstanding Jeff!!

+2 on Jim shooting prone too. That trumps me at a comfy bench IMO.

Well, I tried waiting for the rain to let up on a Tuesday, but it never did, so I just shot in the rain. Thankfully, our benches are covered, so it wasn't too bad, but it took some time for the target to dry off.

Same rifle as always:
Savage Mark II
Nikon 6-18x40 Buckmaster
Shooting off a Harris Bipod
Wolf Match ammo
at 50 yards

I shot a couple of 10s before I got this one. I'm blaming those on the wind picking up because my consistent misses to the low right couldn't possibly be from me jerking the trigger. Not a chance :). Hopefully silhouette shooting will break me of that particular habit.

Hat's off to KSCCHTrainer for shooting this thing prone. That's one skill I know I don't possess. My only reward for trying so far has been a sore neck the next day.

Sounds like a novel idea. I'll have to make sure the target isn't so easy next time around. ;) :D

Jim, I just realized that I mis-scored you...you did that in the sporting class! I, too, shot prone (wanted to try a new shooting mat), but I cheated and used a bipod (and target rifle). Very well done...i'm off to modify the leaderboard to correct the mistake.

Jon, well done...looks like you just hedged the competition for the most Xs (that is if the no. 2 hole is completely within).

:)

shootr, my apologies for leaving you out of the leaderboard.

What do you guys have for Xs on your scores (so I can narrow down the top spot in Target-Magnified)?

:)

Thx Mav!

Hmmm... mine looks to be 9-4 or 5X whatever it looks like to you.
