Midway price increase

Their ammunition prices have skyrocketed. I certainly don't order that from them anymore. $14.49 for a box of 50 9mm WWB? That's on par with Gander Mtn. prices.

Metal prices have certainly dropped, but supply, and demand has changed since the election. They certainly seem to be taking advantage of it.

However, many of their items are still cheaper than Brownells (I have never seen them have a sale), and I can get them at the USPS 1st class shipping rate. I don't reload, so buying primers, powder, etc, etc won't drive up my cost.

Most of the time I order from them, I wait for one of the "nearly everything is discounted" specials. I too noticed they skipped that this past Christmas. I save several bucks that way as well.

Fast forward to 3 days ago. I wanted to get the Trigger Job DVD by Jerry Miculek. Even with the ridiculous $8.93 shipping charge for single DVD it was still just barely cheaper than Amazon. Then I notice an extra $3 special handling charge being added to the Midway total. So I scroll down and see the following:

Can you post links to that video? The one I found at Midway was $26.99 and S&H was $3.37 for USPS 1st class (I get items first class within 3-4 days). There should not be an additional $3 fee for that DVD, at least the Miculek Action job DVD I saw.

I could not find a copy on Amazon.

There's the possibility that they are gouging (the manufacturers). There is also the possibility the bullets currently in inventory were manufactured at higher cost due to the rocketing costs metals were going at during the 1st part of the year. That should be considered.

I got the Midway sales flyer on Monday, January 5th. On the cover there are DPMS parts. I called right away and checked the website and none of them are in stock and no back orders are being taken.

It was just a teaser, IMHO. I am not looking to buy something else just because they "offered" something I needed. Screw them. :neener:

I use MidwayUSA a lot and they didn't screw up any of the 32 orders that I placed in 2008 ... I thought that was impressive. I've never been sent a used, broken or incorrect item from them. I find their prices competitive but admit that their shipping costs are high but that's because they don't use the USPS flat rate boxes that many bullet manufactures are using (not sure why). You can ship 70lb anywhere in the US for $9.95 using a flat rate box. However, I've found that Midway shipping is fairly fast taking about 5 days from when I actually place the order. I generally add small but expensive items to a bulky or heavy item to reduce the shipping to item cost ratio.

I was recently slammed for daring to complain about the cost of Sierra Bullets. I was accused of whining (by the honorable Art Eatman and others) and told to buy other brands and quit complaining. Interesting that all of the complaints about Midway are just fine. I guess the administrator will be along any minute now ...

Sierra's bullet pricing being what it is regardless, I'd say that the cost of Sierras at MidwayUSA is generally higher by a good bit (esp. with shipping) when compared to Natchez or MidSouth, to name a few.

So a Sierra at whatever cost TO midway is certainly more costly than many competitors coming OUT of midway no matter what sierra is charging everyone. Whether Sierra is charging 10 bucks a box or 100 bucks, Midway has jacked the price up more than others above "factory cost" - or they have a bad buying agent.

I actually love sierras. Matchkings through Prohunters, when it comes to rifle bullets ONLY hornady is any cheaper, if at all. Especially when quality is factored in. Speers, Bergers, Noslers.... not opening up that can of worms again (sorry) but with prices being jacked up by everyone they're still some of the cheapest so long as you're not buying pistol bullets :)

Hope they stay in business though, off of other people's wallets... they're a great place to read all about the products and reviews, before buying from other people.
