Dwarven, that's the thing. People that know me personally, know that the character of Julie isn't some gunnut's fabrication of an ideal woman. I married her. (except in real life, her primary is a Tikka T3). Sorry guys. :)

ilcylic, yeah. Tell Billy hi for me. I've got a kick ass script for the b-movie. (set in the MHI universe, but not about this team).
 
I preordered the book and JUST finished it. I was thoroughly impressed with Correia's writing style and imaginative story line. Best fantasy book I've read in years.

A movie would be great, but like all book-to-movie transitions wouldn't be nearly as good. Hope you have another book in the works. :)
 
Good read...reminded me of FPW quite a bit.

the gun descriptions were probably a bit much for a non-gunnie, but that wasn't really your target audience.

If I was younger and still a gamer, a total conversion for half life 2 to the MHI universe would be great...

the demons in the swamp were pretty spooky.

Thoroughly enjoyed the book. I was dreading the end as I was enjoying it too much to want to finish it. It was akin to watching a season of 24, and dreading watching the last episode, because you know it will be a while before the next installment. The elves were a masterful touch, and when you brought out "Abomination" I heard Will Smith from "Independence Day" saying "I got to get me one of these!" Kudos to you, for a well done novel...can you put me down for automatic shipment for #2? Still trying to figure out whether to put my MHI patch on my range bag or jacket :eek: BTW, I left a review up on Amazon also ;)

Finished the book the weekend you sent it to me. I'm very impressed and you've done a fantastic job. I eagerly await the sequel!!

Also pleased to see the Kimber mentioned on page 96 I believe? How cool is that? I had to show my son.

You've done very well my friend. I hope this begins a whole new chapter of your life and new, greater successes to follow.

F. Paul Wilson, man, he is one of my all time favorite authors. To have my work compared to his is a great compliment. Repairman Jack is probably one of my favorite fictional characters of all time.

I posted a review on Amazon as well... I really enjoyed reading this book and I will reread it again in the next month or so.

Great book. Got it late Friday morning and finished it Sunday. Your storytelling ability reminds me a bit like Nick Polotta, author of the Bureau 13 books. I say reminds me a bit b/c IMHO, you have surpassed him. The action sequences remind me of Robert E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian stories, brutal, descriptive and absolutely explosive. The humor is also a good thing to have and this book has it in droves.

All in all, I want to stop by the FGMG booth at SHOT Show and get it autographed if that's alright!

Tiny, there isn't an FBMG booth at SHOT. But I will be working at either the Prism or Lasermax booth for about half of each day.

And the grips, they look like the Terminators left tibia, rather more cool everytime I look at the pic. Is that an Alumagrip design (spelling off, I know)?

After finally getting my copy of MHI (stupid USPS) I finished it in 3 days and I just wanted to throw my two cents in. I also posted a mini-review in my blog. Hope it gets you a few more sales as you definitely deserve 'em. I personally felt that the book was a good balance of length of book vs. detailed writing. I really enjoyed the overall story arc and there were several places where I just had to put the book down because I was laughing too hard to see straight. One of my favorites is the exasperated master vampire asking Owen exactly how many guns he had. "Lots." Like Lawdog says, that one kicked over the old giggle box.

A few things: Firstly, no offense to your proof-reading team here on THR but I think you could benefit from the services of a professional proof-reader. There are several instances of run-on sentences. I'm not sure if this was on purpose due to the nature of first-person narrative but I found it somewhat distracting. It almost read like a stream of consciousness rough draft at times.

Also, as I'm sure you probably don't actually speak French, what you spelled as "parley vous" would be correctly spelled as parlez vous. (Who'd have thought that those two years of H.S. French classes would play into a horror/sci-fi novel review?)

As others have noted, the prophecy applying to Owen was obvious. I noticed that that was your intention from the get-go, so that was successful. Susan being a vampire and that being the reason that Ray's attempt to resurrect her failed totally caught me off guard. As did the elves and orcs - too funny.

I loved what you did with Milo opposing Susan with pure faith, no symbols. That's something that I've been wanting to see for a while in a vampire story as my own religious beliefs reject "holy symbols". I also loved what you did with Trip accidentally confessing the fact that he's a virgin while giving Owen crap about his close encounter and taking twice as much fire in return by Holly. Felt like the kind of conversations I've had with college buddies.

Lastly, this is a direct copy from the review I wrote on my blog and I thought you might appreciate it:
It's almost unfortunate that there have been so very many mainstream vampire/werewolf/zombie blockbuster movies recently as this feels almost like it's trying to use those as a springboard to get more of an audience than it really would otherwise attract. However, as the story progresses, it's obvious that Larry has no intentions of sticking with the same old same old. He manages to use the old horror formulas, throw in a dash of campfire ghost stories, add a generous sprinkling of Lovecraftian lore, and the excellent portrayal of use of a metric ton of the biggest and baddest small arms that you'll never see on the big screen and manages to serve up a novel that is completely new and exciting.

Overall, I think it's an excellent read. Hat's off to you, sir. (And thank you for your generosity in giving me a replacement copy!)

Here's what I love about MHI. And yes, I loved the book.

1. The dialog is witty. Too much fiction dialog these days is Clint Eastwood dialog. Just enough to move the plot along. The wit in the book is great. The dialog between Myers and Owen, during the Jeopardy game--priceless.

2. The interjection of comedy in terror. You have a gift for slipping a funny moment in the midst of a terrifying scene. The only other person I know who can do that well is Speilberg. Its fabulous. Really magnifies the enjoyment of the tense parts.

3. The characters. Particularly Owen. What a great, non-standard protagonist.

4. The bending of cliches. Redneck elves. Metal Orcs. Great stuff.

Count me as a pre-order for MHI II.

Back on topic... I did a review on Amazon and I will definitely buy MHI II!
 
What an amazing book. I went to your website and saw the stuff about pre-ordering and was mad that I just was finding out about this now and missed being able to get a signed copy and patch. I figured I was too late for all of that and ordered two copies on Amazon.com. One for me, one for a friend's birthday. I got it USPS and finished in 2 days. I think this book is where they hide the crack. It's damn addictive.

I'd love to get the next installment as soon as I possibly can. I won't miss out next time.

P.S. the only problem I had was trying to explain what I was reading to the nosy, non-gun owning people I work with that just have to know what you're reading. After 60 seconds of a blank stare on why it is so great to read a book that is technically correct with firearms, it ended with "you wouldn't understand".
 
Loved the book, got it yesterday about 4:00pm and finished it last night about Midnight. Very well written, funny, exciting, and has some of the most original ideas that I have ever read.

Loved skippy and his crew, havin Orcs as the good guys was REAL cool.

I cracked up at the "Enchanted Forest", need to call Jeff Foxworthy and start a new TV series there. ;) (Felt so sorry for Trip here!)

I also pictured Earl as a 40 ish Tommy Lee Jones, or a Dennis Quaid love his character and can't wait to read the story about him.

I also think that this would make a GREAT movie! BTW George Eades from CSI would probably make a good pretty boy Grant, and maybe Jessica Biel as Julie and hey she already knows how to kill Vamps! I can't think of anyone for Z, right off the top of my head, but this is something that needs to happen.

Hold Steady Pig........ I just about spit my drink out and ruined my book over that one!

I also love seeing a big-guy as the lead.

I have read a lot of sci-fi, horror, and action stuff through the years, but I can't remember the last time I read anything more fun! Great work!

Put me down as another sure pre-order for #2!

My only complaint is that last night while I was reading it my wife thought I had lost my mind!

+10 on the spouse thinking I was cracking up, and I digest a lot of books. This one was a little much for her, though. The late session with the book light huddled in my corner of the bed had her thinking about getting some tests done. The belabored sighs every once in a while should have been a message to me, but I couldn't stop. Maybe I can bill Correia for the marriage counseling.:D

Kidding. Mostly.

2. The orcs had painted white hands on their faces. Apparently they were fans of the Lord of the Rings movies.

Is it possible to buy just the patch? I ordered the book from Amazon, read it yesterday, and now I want a patch. :)
