New Handgun- which one would you buy?

I have an addiction to buying new guns (admitting is the first step) and then trading them off when I get bored with them. Currently I am looking for a "new toy".
I have previously owned:
Glock 19 w/ night sites
S&W M&P .40
XD .45
Beretta 92 9mm
Taurus PT92 x2 9mm
Sig SP2022 9mm
Glock 22
Kimber 1911 .45
My favorites of these were the Glock 19, Sig SP2022, and the XD. I LOVED the S&W but had major problems with it (FTE and slide not locking back). Because I was the second owner, Smith and Wesson could not do anything for me. I would love to trust the Smith and Wesson again, but you know how that goes- It's hard once you have a bad experience. Please understand, especially if you are a newbie to shooting, that this was my bad experience and I know that there are thousands of happy M&P owners out there.
Currently I am looking for a good range gun in 9mm but I want to get one that is very accurate. I am not looking for a conceal gun necessarily when I want a conceal gun I will buy another Glock 19. Here are my choices:

Sig 229 - Pros include: accuracy, quality, I like the way it feels, and size (conceal carry although it's still quite fat). Cons include: price and I find that the decocker gets in the way of my thumb on thumb shooting grip

Sig 226- same pros and cons except this one is harder to conceal and heavier than the P229.

Sig SP2022- Pros: Night Sites, price point, very accurate, fits my hand well but not as good as Smith and Wesson M&P. Cons: This gun has been discontinued, so finding parts for it may get hard.

Steyr M-A1- Pros: I like the sights- very accurate gun. Cons: more obsolete gun than all others- may be hard to find parts- not currently in production anymore (to my knowledge).

Springfield XDM: Pros: Love the way it feels in the hand, accuracy, 3 backstraps for custom fit. Cons: Length of overall grip is pretty long.

Springfield XDM 3.8 : Same pros and cons but shorter barrel than above which I like alot.

THE OTHER POSSIBILITIES- (but thats a big possibility)
Glock 17- pros: great gun and will last forever. cons: out of the 17 and 19, I would pick the 19 for accuracy- that's right I said the 19 was more accurate in my opinion. I also struggle with the Glock's frame and grip angle- other guns such as XD,s fit me better.

S&W M&P - (thats a big possibly) Pros: love the way it shoots and feels in the hand. Cons: bad experience with prior gun in .40- it was almost factory new. Hard to get the bad taste out of my mouth as I have heard others having problems with this gun on this thread.

Any input as to which one you own or which one you think I should buy would be great. Thanks for sticking in their with such a long post.

Nothing like the real thing. Glock 19 is the best 9mm service pistol in the world in my opinion. A great many military and public service local agencies also think so as well. Now what was your question?
 
I don't know how anyone else can choose for you, but it seems from what you have written that you really want a dependable S&W M&P. Buy a new one with the warranty and if it doesn't work make the get it right. Or you could just bypass all this decision making and get a CZ.
 
If you're looking for an accurate 9mm range gun, I'd take a look at the Witness Elite Match. The importer (EAA) does not have a good reputation but Tanfoglio, the maker, does. I love mine. In my hands it's the most accurtate of my 9mms. Pleasant to shoot and has a very nice SA trigger.

Which New Handgun to Buy?

My personal preference would be the Springfield XD(M) in either 9MM or .40 S&W. A little trigger work, and you have a really wonderful gun that is accurate, dependable, and reasonably lightweight.

Second choice for me would be the Glock 19, generally for all the reasons folks like the Glock.

Decide what you want to do with it, constinue your research (that you are now doing), and then buy what YOU want!
 
You say you want a good range gun that is accurate and you're not interested in concealment yet you list a con of the Sig P226 as being difficult to conceal. DUH, what's up Doc? :rolleyes:
 
90-Two

...

Rather than the 92FS, take a look and feel of the newer 90-Two.

Shot one the other day, that had a D-spring, and it had the sweetest DA pull, and light SA, clean, break "balanced" with lighter weight and softer recoil with far better accuracy, for me, getting back on target with tighter groups than his 92, all metal, INOX I tried next..

The gun is quite popular overseas so from what I have read on sigforum parts for quite some time should not be a problem. I have one and like it alot.
 
I'm still a fan of the Glocks. For the money, they are tough to beat. My department has used them for years and they are reliable as all can be. My Fav's are 1911's and if you have not owned one, you should. That may be something to think about.
 
Water Man- you're right- it seemed like a contradiction. I guess what I was saying was that if I have a Sig P229, I could also conceal it but then again it is a little thick. By the way, I failed to mention I had a Kimber full size 1911 that I loved but couldn't find ammo for during the ammo shortage we experienced. Once the ammo became available again, it was $22 a box! Needless to say, I sold the Kimber and bought a 9mm.
 
Feel your pain brother

I just spent months agonizing over a decision on a new plastic gun. I've never owned a plastic gun so I just wanted one for my collection. I wasn't concerned about concealed carry as I already have my preffered weapons for ccw. That left me with tons of choices. I ended up with a Gen4 Glock 17. I've shot several glocks in the past, so I feel moderately comfortable with them and I know they are pretty accurate. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, too lol. So many Glock owners are ferociously brand loyal I figured adding one to my collection wouldn't be something I'd regret.:confused:

After recently fondling an xd 3.8...I probably would have bought that instead. It just points more naturally for me. I'm still trying to get past that glock grip angle. No big deal, the release of the 3.8 gives me another reason to self justify another addition to my collection.:rolleyes: Myself, I'm a fan of almost any quality boomstick.

Good luck in your decision. I vote for either an RTF19 or the XD 3.8. Either piece is a fine firearm and one you wouldn't be dissappointed with.

I've regretted the sale of any of my firearms. Even a lowly, run of the mill Beretta 96. I miss the ol girl and her CT grips. I recently decided to keep them all from now on :eek:. I keep one to two weapons I'm not as attached too and designate them as "traders." If I sell it, it has to be replaced. My Kimbers are keepers, I think my new Glock just may be a keeper, too. We'll just have to see if it's a quick flame or a long term lover lol.
 
If you want to carry, these guns are reliable and very concealable:

Glock 26/27/33
S&W M&P compacts
HK P2000 SK
CZ RAMI
Walther PPS
Springfield Armory EMP (flush base magazine)
Glock 36
XD Compact

Many of these models will take longer magazines. Some have grip adapters, some don't. The Glock 26 works great with Glock 19 and 17 magazines with or without a grip adapter. The XD's and M&Ps also handle longer magazines. I'm not sure about the others. The EMP is a smaller 1911 if you like that type of gun.

I think the main thing is to just choose a gun and commit to training with it. Gun surfing is fun and leads to a tactically light wallet and proficiency with a wide variety of handguns.

If you just want a range gun, get a custom 1911 made for shooting sports. I kinda like the STI's with 26 round magazines (9mm). SVI's are really nice.
 
Anyone have an opinion about the Browning Hi Power? I've always liked the looks of it and somewhat of a desire to own one. Don't "need" one, just 'want" one.

I think that is the right answer.
I can add from personal experience... I own an early model M&P40. I put the first 900 rounds through it, right out of the box, without cleaning or lubing. At this point, I'm well over 3,000 rounds and I have never had a failure of any type - except ammo-related. I've had a couple case failures and one crimp failure, all from factory reloads.
 
Since you liked the XD so much why not get a sub compact?

I have a .40 SC, it's easy to CC and it holds plenty of ammo for it's size.

If 10 + 1 rds. isn't enough it comes with an extended mag with the spacer sleeve that holds 13 + 1.
 
M&P .40, the RO at the local range let me handle his. I fell in love with the feel in my hand and the trigger.

I have two guns in .40, no problems here
 
I'd get the another Beretta 92. I love the way they look and they're great shooters.

Out of your choices though, probably a Sig P2022. I like everything about Sig's 'poly' guns. I think the 2022 looks great too!
 
It has been said that imitation is the greatest form of flattery. I recommend buying the guns that every one else is coping.

Everything else are just cheap imitations in my opinion.
