odd day with a LEO

1.even if im 18 can a LEO make those types of comments? I don't think there are laws about what comments people are allowed to make. It's just talking. Yeah he was an ass, but this is America. There is no right not to be offended.

Wrong. He is an LEO not some guy off the street. At my place of employment I can make any comments I want but I will be accountable for them. If a formal complaint was made about this officer's attitude and comments, he could be reprimanded by the Chief. Chances are the Chief will roll his eyes and do nothing, but it would worth a shot.

So yes, a cop can run his mouth but you also have the right to make a formal complaint to be added to his file.

follow up

The hand gun was a gift that is being passed down but under Michigan law I my get a permit for the weapon to place it legally in to my name.

The form was not such a big deal i just never had to do one before and thought somethings on it could be a invasion of privacy.

I went back in for the "safety check" and i talked to the officer and I talked to the officer and I told him that I did not like the comments he made. He said " I'm sorry I thought it was a illegal buy and I'm sorry I had a really bad day and I didn't like what I saw and I'm sorry again." Then he showed me to the room. he did stay to see the weapon and he liked it and said it was a real nice gift. the officer asked my grandma if she was going to get a new gun and she is going to she just wanted something bigger. Both officers where shocked and asked what she was going to get. "around a 357 or a 45" they got a kick out of it and said they don't want to be on the wrong side of the gun. She filled out the paper to get her permit and now she is going to get a Taurus Tracker Model 617TT .357 Magnum. I think its a lot of gun for her but she says's she will be ok.

I'm glad i could work it out with the officer if i was him i would have done it in the same thing with a different attitude.

asked if i had any legal problems with any one i know or have ever taken legal action on any one else.

I had a bad childhood and that came up and i didn't think that was necessary

"why do i need a hand gun" When I read a LEO asks a citizen this it really burns me. It is a look down their nose, oh so holier than thou response. First it is none of their business and in a shall issue state has no bearing on issuing a permit. A response might be, "why do you need a gun"?

No offense to THR members from there but most of the stupid laws in MI are a result of Detroit, the most dangerous city in America, BTW Flint in 3rd.The CCW laws are being fixed nicely, but Cox needs to fix all of Kelly's mistakes eg, NFA restrictions, CCW age, and the ridiculous "you can only have a auto-knife if you have one arm" law.

Cox is doing the best he can, it's just that there are so many problems that he has to sort out caused mostly by the leftist blight in this state. He's just one man against a myriad of leftist lawmakers, lobbyists, unions, and Jenny.

BlazingAngel01, good for you. You handled like a man should have. Congrats on the gift and enjoy the M1. Welcome to The High Road. Also let this post be lesson to you. Read and lesson to all the evidence presented on these threads before you make a decision.

Before those of us in somewhat freer states get too self-righteous, let's remember that my father could legally buy a rifle through the mail when 13 years old.

We are all slowly getting used to more and more restrictions, even in the "free" states. Notice how we all take the Brady check as "normal" now.

Sounds to me like he is saying that he tried to, and successfully did, obtain a purchase permit to buy a handgun in his name that his grandmother was funding. Not a textbook straw purchase, but could appear to be one.

It's either a straw purchase or it isn't. Merely FUNDING the purchase of a firearm is not a straw purchase. He is the actual buyer. End of story.

The form was not such a big deal i just never had to do one before and thought somethings on it could be a invasion of privacy.

It felt like an invasion of privacy because it WAS an invasion of privacy. The entire process is an invasion of privacy. But for the time being we're all waiting for the Heller opinion to come down. These invasive approval procedures are the closest thing to an outright ban, and are high on the list of stupid laws to take apart with a large axe if things go our way next spring.
