Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence
Tell Starbucks: Offer Espresso Shots, Not Gunshots

Over the past few months, more and more gun owners have been gathering at restaurants and coffee shops like Starbucks with guns strapped to their hips, intimidating fellow patrons.

Businesses can legally prohibit guns from being carried in their establishments – and so far, Peet's Coffee & Tea and California Pizza Kitchen have heeded customer concerns and barred the open carrying of guns.

But Starbucks is refusing to prohibit the open carrying of firearms in its stores, despite protests from loyal customers.

Contact Starbucks to let them know that you want them to stand up for the safety of their customers and adopt a nationwide, gun-free policy in all Starbucks stores

Because of Starbucks' refusal, the Brady Campaign has teamed up with CREDO Action to tell Starbucks to keep guns out of its coffee shops.

The practice of packing heat in places like Starbucks is intimidating and could be potentially dangerous to our families and communities – and it must be stopped.

It's everyone's right to sit in a restaurant or coffee shop with their families without intimidation or fear of guns, either concealed or openly carried.

Under the law, Starbucks has the right to adopt a gun-free policy, with an exception for uniformed police officers. Such a policy can easily be implemented in most cases by putting up signs at store entrances.

We need to tell Starbucks to bar guns in its stores. These individuals who have been carrying guns into Starbucks have all the firepower of a SWAT team, and none of the law enforcement training.

Please contact Starbucks today!

Sincerely,

Paul Helmke, President
Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence

wow...i had no idea my handgun gave me all the firepower of a SWAT team. those guys really need better equipment, i guess.

seriously though...i might be good to write some polite and appreciative letters and emails to starbucks. we don't want the brady campaign to be the only voice they hear on the matter.

I hate fivebucks, uh I mean starbucks. I make a better coffee drink in the morning, for about $.50 a pop.

Yeah, no lie. I avoid Starbucks as much as possible...I've found myself to be often diametrically opposed to the other patrons, in dress, beliefs, morals, character, all sorts of critical things. I wouldn't cry if Starbucks made carrying in their stores illegal, but I don't think we should let that particular branch do that merely because many of us choose not to patronize it.

Thanks for the heads up, just went to their website to give them my support for allowing concealed carry in their stores. We should get everyone to do so. Allow them to know how many of us there are.

Personally I wish they would tell us where the author lived. Cause I could go ahead and send some of our criminals and gangbangers over there. If a CCW holder is armed better than his SWAT team, I am sure they would love the place.

Starbucks can make whatever policy they wish. Property owners' rights trump patrons' desires. Starbucks cannot make carry in their stores illegal; however, they CAN deem anyone who carries in their stores, a trespasser, and thus subject to trespassing charges. If they truly thought they would do more business with an anti-carry policy, they would implement such a policy, and rightly so, from a business perspective.

That made sense to me on some level...but hey, if they want to go ahead and do it, do it. Just means they definitely won't get my patronage.

Just curious General; it snowing in Allentown yet? It is in South Central. :D

the same way the anti's think it's a good idea to pressure *bux into adopting a gun free policy, i feel it's important for all patriots to contact them and tell them how impressed we are they have buckled.

General Geoff has it right, they will be governed by revenue (most likely) and not financially cut their own throat over principal. so we need them to realize their decision to support freedom is finding favor with alot of us :)

I don't care for expensive coffee but you guys guys need to give them some credit for not complying with the Brady's initial request. Way to go Starbucks! Sometimes I think you guys (some THR members) could care less about the RKBA as long as your personal goals are attained.

guys, i'm totally with you on starbucks. i don't even drink coffee, and even if i did starbucks would probably be pretty far down my list of places to patronize. however, i don't think we want the brady bunch to be able to bully businesses into complying with their "vision". today it's starbucks. maybe tomorrow it's a place you go everyday and enjoy shopping at.

But I guess it's not everyone's right to protect themselves. Makes perfect sense!

What about my right to not be bothered by someone with a the fear of guns, or my fear of paying too much for coffee?

It' not the price of their coffee, Mags, it's their atmosphere. It is like not wanting to walk in "that" part of town...I don't want to go into a place with "that" atmosphere. I don't understand what you are trying to say.

Exactly! That's why I said:

See I go there a lot for work. They are everywhere so it is a good place to meet up with clients for informal meetings. A lot of client companies won't allow them to go for lunches over a certain dollar amount but you can meet them informally, have a nice friendly chat and business and treat them in appreciation of their business.

I understand a lot of folks do not like them however, i will say this guys...while I do not smoke or would never go near a Waffle House, I would support your right to go to a smoke shop or Waffle House armed. When the liberals come for our rights they never come full on. They widdle away at the edges until there is nothing left. That way they never get hit full bore by us all protesting against them.

I am saying you don't care because it doesn't apply to you. Like many others you may not understand the implications that things you could care less about may one day impact your right to keep and bear arms.

I don't patronize Starbucks at all since the CEO refused to make Starbucks coffee available to our troops saying he wouldn't support an illegal war or our troops who fought it.
The troops didn't want it free they just wanted a coffee shop in green zone so they could spend their money on $5 cups of that stuff you can make yourself if you don't go crazy making it strong. AS several said at $0.50 a cup.

I have no control over the way you feel, pal. Being a liberal, you probably blame your parents.

To the rest of you, I apologize on behalf of the entire Hoosier that we we spawed such a disgrace to what is otherwise a fine bunch of people.

I am saying you don't care because it doesn't apply to you.

But my previous posts have stated that I do care. I phrased it badly but said in essence that we shouldn't let Starbucks fold to the pressure merely because we don't patronize it. I do care, Mags.

Like many others you may not understand the implications that things you could care less about may one day impact your right to keep and bear arms.

That's the thing though...I fully understand that they aren't going to attempt to campaign for the banning of all CCW's and handguns, but start small, one little store or shop at a time, and play with people's minds. If they try it once and fail, it fades from peoples minds quickly. But if they keep constant pressure on it at all times, eventually it will succeed. Yeah, maybe not all of us are going to go OC at a Starbucks every day to get the point across, but we aren't necessarily complacent because of the fact that we won't.

Thanks for the clarification Shadow Man, but there are alot of other THR members who do not care.
