Over 60 yrs old carry?

I'm 67 this Friday and what I carry "depends" on the weather and what I'm wearing. Hot days and it's the LCP, in a pocket holster, or an in-waist-band holster; cooler days and it's a P238 in a holster on my belt (don"t even know it's there) and finally (when I can wear heavier clothing), a Wilson Combat, Bill Wison Carry!

How I made it past the big 6 is beyond comprehension. :)

It depends, not there yet, :D when working at my place a Colt 1911 in .38Super when weather is cooler, but when there are mountain lion/s on the property it's an automatic change to a scandium N-frame M327 TRR8. Hear a bear huffing nearby, or hiking in active bear country, it's a M29 Mountain loaded with Sierra 300gr JSPs.

Go to town is a Colt 1911 XSE in .45auto, loaded with RA45TPs and extra mags of RA45B.

Stainless Berretta 96 with Crinsom Trace laser in Serbu holster behind right hip.
Berretta 21A in right front pocket (wish it fed a full clip).
Blued Berretta 96 in Serbu holster on left side cross-draw.

And in my younger days, a mini-uzi under my suit-jacket.
2 reloads for all, flashlight, large knife, small knife, brass-knuck, - good thing I survived being young & stupid!

I don't mean to be disrespectful but what does 60 years old have to do with anything?
I'm 67 and I carry the most reliable weapons money can buy that always go bang when I pull the trigger. My EDC is a Glock 36, Optional carry is my Glock 26 and I will sometime carry my S&W snub nose in .38. After 10 plus years of shooting Glocks, I am still waiting for my first malfunction. If I live to reach 80, I will still carry the Glock.

I have read all the posts and just have to ask,why do any believe they are safer in summer than in winter ?.

Many state they carry a much larger caliber in winter as its easier to conceal, but does that mean your safer in one season moreso than the other ?.

I am of the firm opinion that the weather has little to do with my safety,so I carry the same gun regardless of the weather.

YES,it takes a bit of preparation to EDC a real gun.

BUT,I can promise that if you are ever in a SHTF moment [ been there ] that you will be REALLY sorry if your packing a mouse gun in place of your real hardware.

I'm not sure I understand it, either. The logic seems to be you wear a T-shirt in summer, and a coat in winter, so you can conceal a bigger gun.

I make my own holsters, and I can conceal a full-size M1911 under a tucked-in T-shirt, so that's what I carry, winter or summer.

S&W 242 usually. Sometimes a FEG PA-63 or CZ-82, I like the Makarov guns generally. Sometimes a 686+, or a USP 9. There's usually a PT-22 around because .22's are so useful for varmints of all sizes. I lost the LCR to the wife. :(

Depends on where I'm going, what I'm doing and the weather. I carry a .380 pocket pistol, 9mm semi, .45 Colt revolver and a 1911 Gov't. at the present time.

I'm not planning on carrying anything different when I hit 60 than I do now, unless something changes to allow Open Carry here by then. If I didn't have to worry about concealment, I'd carry a full size gun most of the time. Now I mostly carry a J-frame .38 or .380 ACP in a pocket or IWB holster.

At 66. Kimber Ultra Carry II in a Sparks SSII or a 340pd for pocket carry.

"and a coat in winter, so you can conceal a bigger gun."

I just carry a larger pistol in the parka pocket. I have yet to figure out how to quickly get to a holstered BHP or 5" .45 when the parka is zipped up. If it's warm enough to skip zipping the parka I don't wear it.

As far as t-shirts and belt guns go, maybe I could manage it if I had skinny little hips or no butt or something. Putting a big gun on my hip makes me look like I'm shoplifting a couple of pounds of packaged hamburger under my shirt.

Seriously, appendix carry works much better for me with a BHP or Colt. It's all about body type.

Turning 62 in a couple of weeks. Normally, it's a CZ97B (45 ACP) in a high ride OWB or a shoulder rig, depending on dress. When I need something smaller, a S&W 442 in a DeSantus pocket holster or Ross OWB thumb-break. In the winter, with heavier dress, a S&W 610, 6 1/2" N frame in a Bianchi X15 shoulder rig. I tend to like all steel guns, don't mind the extra weight with a good holster. Carry every day, all day. Even at home.

Well, youngsters I didn't get anxious about carrying a gun until I turned 85. Then after playing with a few I chose 9mm and because I'm still curious cat I chose auto. I bought cheap and made it work, then another and another and some better brands. A snubby chopped at my hands so I traded for a S&W 60-4 revolver and fell in love. I carry a Taurus PT-111 9mm auto with a 24/7 compact for an alternate. I wish I could handle a Ruger SP101 or was big enough to carry a Springfield XD-9 Service, two fine guns.

I turned 86, Monday. Life is good.

Also old enough to play...

I keep a little Ruger LCP or a Kahr Mk9 Elite 03 in my pocket. In my cars I also carry a S&W 3913 hard chromed/modified by Karl Sokol, a 1973 armoloyed Charter Arms 44 Bulldog, and a pre-lock S&W 649 .357,depending on which vehicle I'm in. All of my other S&Ws are just too damn' nice to leave out of the 1000 pound safe bolted to the concrete floor. Beside my bed is a CZ 75B SP-01 which I completely trust with 19 rounds of 9mm hollow points and night sights. I also have a locked garage, alarm systems on house, garage and cars, a big mean shepherd/wolf mix, and a pump shotgun. :)

Okay, I just turned 59, but...

I carry a S&W Model 13-3, 3 inch .357 Mag, and a Taurus 85SSUL .38 SPL, concealed. I carry a 4 inch .357 Mag S&W Model 681 in my duty holster with the Taurus as backup.

Not quite there yet (3.5 yrs to go)...

My summer (Tshirt and shorts) & around the house carry is a NAA Black Widow in 22mag.

My "other" is a Taurus 450 in 45 Colt. I do both as pocket carries.

I'm 61. Working, in uniform, a SIG 220 or S&W M&P in .40. Off duty, usually a S&W model 638 or Ruger LCR in a pocket holster. Occasionally I'll carry a larger auto if destination or circumstances make it seem advisable.

I am 60 and have some arthritus problems so I stopped carrying a semi auto and went to a J or K frame with speed loaders. I just don't want any problems with racking the slide. I shoot a revolver very well and feel its my best defense (357 Mag).

A beretta 86 .380acp just in case

I am not there yet, but getting there. Just in case age proves to be a problem in handling a gun, I bought a BERETTA 86. This is the mid size BERETTA pistol with 8 shot magazine and a tip open barrel.
If working the slide becomes a problem, with this gun, I can still get a round into the chamber by popping open the barrel and slipping in a round, then slipping in the magazine.

My main reason for it is that my wife, who carries a SIG 225 finds racking the slide to load a round into the chamber, the hardest part of shooting a gun. I am bigger and it has never been a problem for me, but the logic of just it case works for me and it was an excuse to buy another gun!

Otherwise I will carry what I carry now, a BERETTA TOMCAT in .32ACP or WALTHER P-99 or BERETTA 92 Compact when I can cover it with a jacket.

A full size BERETTA 92 or 96 will remain the house gun.

Usually either a Colt 1911 or a 4"GP100 .357. Love'em both cannot help cycling between the 2 every few weeks. The one constant though is the always present SP101 back-up.
