Perfect 9mm pistol

I think any Glock is the best in its field. I have fired many rounds of 9MM and 45 ACP and no jams. They are accurate and function when very dirty.I think I clean my Glocks out of guilt. I have owned other 9's and 45's,they are gone the Glock is not. Byron

Smith & wesson 39. Made of metal. has wood grips and a manual safety. Plus it is drop dead accurate and i have never had a single malfunction out of a couple of thousand rounds. Best of all it was FREE!!!

GLOCKS. It's the most unpretentious gun any guy can have. None of the "styling", custom works, "real steel" of the sigs, HKs, 1911s.

A gun is not a custom car, so having custom works on it it's extras.

A gun is not about styles or "true materials" AKA non-plastic. Who cares if it's tupperware as long as it goes bang?

It's increasingly disturbing how a KILLING TOOL is being fetishized, 3000$ custom works, 500$ grips. Whining and griping about some minor things such as 1/4" longer trigger creeps, 1/78th degree of grip angle discrepancy to the 1911.

PLEASE! A gun is not a fetish object. All I care about is that when a BG is in front, I pull the trigger and he is dead. Who cares about all those trivial issues that only girls who's buying accessories would care about?

For me, the perfect -defensive- 9mm handgun is the SIG P225. Compact enough to be easily carried, solidly built, fantastic trigger, and a grip that fits my hand wonderfully. Reliability is of course there as well, it's a SIG after all.

I think the perfect 9mm (or any caliber gun) is dependant on your needs and your hand. Lots of good arms makers out there. For me the "perfect" 9mm came out about 3 weeks ago from Ruger of all people. I have always respected the name for their reliability and durability coupled with good prices. But, the new SR9 is exactly what I was looking for save the magazine disconnect (which can easily be romoved). A low bore axis, striker fired, 9mm, with a frame mounted manual safety. It was like they read my mind.....perfect!

Ruger SR9 for me.
I wish Glock would import those manual safety models they make for the rest of the world.....sigh. But, they don't. So, Ruger will get my business.

Perfection is in the hand of the shooter. I've stopped recommending a certain gun to people when they ask for a recommendation. Most modern semi-autos will be reliable under normal conditions, and accuracy has more to do with the comfort of the grip for most people.
For me, the perfect 9mm has yet to be produced. Let me know when a comfy DA/SA is made that has a SA pull similar to a finely tuned 1911.

I would go with a Glock 19 for my vote with the Sig p228 next. I have always loved my Glocks. They are great dependable and affordable. I shoot them great and they are everywhere. In my city the Police are issued Glock 19/17's and they seem to like them alot.

I had various S&W, Ruger, Sig, and CZ-75 9mm's and shot H&K USP's. For me in a 9mm handgun, the G19 is where it's at.

GrayJacket says, in part: "PLEASE! A gun is not a fetish object...."

A) Of course it is--if you make it one! That's what a fetish is, silly! ;)

PhillyGlocker says, in part: "I've never fired the G17, but I have a G19, and it is the best 9mm ever..."

A) I might have to agree. I own a G17 (something like 7500-rounds without a hiccup!), and I bought my finace a G19, which is an outstanding little shooter that, while pocket sized, does everything well. Everybody needs a G19! :D

redneckrepairs says, "Well fanboy Tho i like and carry a 9mm everyday , i do have to say i will carry a ravin .25 , or a jennings .22 before i waste my time on any glock."

A) That is such an absurd, irrational comment, that if I ask for amplification, I know I'd get slammed with the list of errors you've made with Glock firearms, or that you're just blindly following the dictum of your local club's mantra.

We've got over 25,000 rounds through three Glock pistols (G21, G17 & G19) and I've found them to be excellent machines. The only failures I've had were due to new shooters, faulty ammo, one bad OEM magazine, and the trials of a caliber conversion experiment.

I learned on the Glock trigger, so I've mostly mastered it.

Whenever I read a Glock hate thread, I know it's irrational because the product simply doesn't warrant that reaction from a reasonable person.

Don't like Glocks? Fine! Buy what you like! There's a lot to choose from! Sig, CZ, Ruger, HK, and many others make some great semi autos.

Implying Glocks are crap? That, in itself, is a pantload! Glock durability and reliability are legendary--the G17 has 27-years of history, and began its life in military service. In its 3rd generation, it's an excellent 9 mm combat handgun--which can handle the rigors of full auto, with some modification.

Same said for the G20--a proven platform for the potent 10mm auto cartridge! Again, the only kabooms here involve hand loads.

Glock kabooms invariably involve handloads--it's easier for the hand loader to blame the gun, than to fess up to an error.

Define perfection... Is anything really perfect?

All that said, the G19 comes about as close as anything's going to, to being the perfect 9 mm weapon.... IMO, of course!

I have owned a lot of 9mm's and I believe that the Glock 17 is truly the best. 100% reliability, accuracy, and it's 1/2 the price of a sig or Hk. Your thoughts please.
The benchmark for 9mm accuracy is its original platform. Most any matching Luger with the meremost traces of rifling left in its barrel will unload its magazine into a 50mm bullseye at 50 meters, if the shooter does his part. A SIG P210 will do likewise. So will a well-built M1911. A Glock would be hard pressed to do half as well.

Accuracy Matters...

...But it's moot without real-world reliability. Without reliability, you won't be around to tell the story!

The original Luger's reliability, in real-world service, was less than stellar--in particular at the Russian Front, where it failed frequently. Same thing with the German rifles of the time. The machining tolerances were so tight, a little dirt in the works, below zero temps, forget it! :uhoh:

Glocks seem to thrive in the worst environments--there are threads on torture tests that border on the insane. There are videos of a G19 firing repeatedly under water. I have read and seen these.

With my arthritic hands, and poor eyes, my G17, Judy's G19, and my G21, can center-core (all 10s and a few 9s) a B27-Q HALF-SIZE Police And FBI Training Target, at forty feet, on any given day. A superior shooter would do much better, and at greater range! Is that not good enough for a combat handgun?

Of my 9mm's the SIG's are more accurate,Beretta more stylish,Browning more classic,Walther better finished,S&W less expensive...but the Glock 19 is what I carry every day.I think what I like best about the 19 is that it's as plain and simple as it could possibly be and just flat works for what it was designed for.

As for trusting one's life with a ravin (sic) or lorcin, rather than carrying something proven to be as reliable as firearms come, for irrational reasons,I find it hard to give a rational reply.

I'm going to be another CZ 75 person. Reliability, price, capacity, ergonomics, manual safety, DA/SA: whatever you want, it has. That said, I don't carry mine, but that's because it's big. I'd still say it's the best 9mm.

For concealed carry, the P7M8. For open carry, any CZ-75 with a single action trigger.

I have to vote for the Browning Hi Power.
100% reliable. 15 round capacity with Mec Gar mags.
Very accurate. On good days I can hold 3" groups at 25 yards.
With a slight amount of change the trigger is great. (lighter hammer spring and removing the mag disconnect).
Balance is wonderful.
It feels the best in your hand.
It looks great.

Something in the CZ-75 series. For me it's the CZ-75B Stainless or the CZ-85 COMBAT.
