There is a substantial minority of posts by people who are apparently either functional illiterates with computer access or are so hurried and careless that a decipherable post is of no value to them. I don't mean the occasional misspelled word or grammatical error, I do those myself. I mean the full length screwups that make a post hard to read at all. I see three basic types:
1. Truly illiterate. There are posts that are hardly to be considered English. They lack punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Meaning may or may not be clear.
2. California Girl. There is more and more usage of abbreviations that I think come from cel phone text messaging. r u abl 2 c wht i mean?
3. No pinkie. There are posts written in clear and proper language but whose author does not use the shift key. Even when well punctuated they are hard to get through. I am more mystified by the ones with proper nouns capitalized but not the first word of the sentences.
Does this sort of stuff bother you? It does me, it makes it hard to comprehend.
Do you wade through it and try to get the content? Sometimes I do, sometimes I give up a line or two in. Sometimes I will be mean enough to respond in the same dialect.
