Don't worry about it. We're only after the lazy slobs - the ones who shoot up road signs, don't watch their muzzle, wear camo to church and leave broken glass and appliances at the range. They know who they are - they're the ones who give gun owners a bad name.

The people who kill me are the ones who think a few misspelled words on their job applications won't hurt their chances of being hired.

Why do people use ''ect''??? Eh?? The abreviation for ''etcetera'' is ''etc''.!!

Occasional one .... ''affect/effect'' ..... I affect your shooting by distracting you - and the effect is that you shoot less well.! :D

Less and fewer ..... less is a diminishment of an action, non-quantitative .... fewer is a diminishment of a quantity .... viz, ''there was less concern about .......'' ....... and, ''there were fewer people (numerically) .......''

''Didn't used to'' ...... should be ''used not to''!!

Oh - there are many!! Anyways I use all sorts of abbreviations and ''cheats'' .. so never mind! As long as we understand what's meant!:p

I have a IR keyboard. It skips sometimes if I don't happen to "aim" it at the box properly. Ultimately, I miss my target because of poor aim.:cuss:

Chris,
I believe you hit upon something my friend.

The old "if you don't use it - you lose it" applies in my case sometimes. Acronymns, abbreviations, symbols, spellcheck, and grammar check for instance well- allow me to be lazy.

Add those business , professional, college, "slang",abbreviations and shortcuts along with the computer / internet shortcuts...I'm guilty.

I used the Delta symbol for the word "change" for so long, I actually questioned myself once in writing the word in longhand. I jotted a note to my mom and said I would not be able to come over on "R" - the letter we use to denote Thursday at school.

I made A's in spelling and penmanship, English and Grammar I admit I'm not the best. The public school system was trying out a "new method", this also happened with some math courses. This not only messed me up, but others as well. I tend to use words of the South, like "tumped".

 Guilty as charged.

I have two forms of writing, message board and normal.

Message baord means abbrevs, slang, contactions, lack of ' and other marks, and so one, along with common errors cuz the keys be 2 close together, and run on sentences cuz capitalization is jest another kestoke...also sometimes like jest before my typing style will substitute one letter fer another (fer fer for, jest fer just, look at the keyboard)..

Now of course, when I create a formal letter or legal document, I make an extraordinary effort to ensure not only correct spelling, but grammer.

Needles to say that 2nd sentence tookj me ferever to type.

I think good spelling and grammer is a lot FURTHER away than most of us think it is. ;)

Maybe I'd better investigate this FARTHER.

Sorry... my personal pet peeve. :)

That "Cmabrigde Uinervtisy" thingy was funny when i first read it, and it was even cute the next 2769 I found it forced on me. Now it's just plain annoying. Yes, you can read it but you have to work at it.
If someone really wrote that way I'd just skip right on past it. As would most people.

If I had wanted to spend my days deciphering cryptic writings I would have become an archaeologist and gone to study the Pyramids or something.

My personal grammar pet-peeve is the lose/loose one. It's if it's loose as a goose, you'd better be careful or you'll lose your booze.

I'm personally not very good at the affect/effect and farther/further, but I'm not too bad with them, either.

Folks who feel badly about something. Oh, how proper sounding. Oh, how incorrect. This one has been on the rise for a long time. Often heard from the same growing number who could care less about some other urgent issue. Not an issue of bad grammar but bad logic. For bad style see those edge cutters who've taken to going with. As in "I'm running to the store. Do you want to go with?" No, I want to slap you.

Translation:

My biggest pet peeve is people who use "|337 $p3@k" to no end. It is absolutely intollerable, and most infuriating. How in the bloody hell is one supposed to read such gibberish? If I could wipe one thing off the face of the language map, "|337 $p3@k" would be it.

Hell, I had trouble just decoding that paragraph, and I wrote it not 2 minutes ago!
