Smith357,what year is your M70? I have that exact same stock but can't find it in any listing of Model 70 stocks.

The rifle was made in 1979.

Little old but really gets the job done. Original Sharps "A" with 24" half octagon/half round barrel in 40-70 Sharps BN cartridge. Not too big, not too small, just right to drop them bucks where they're a standing....Please pardon the dings in the stock, shes over 130 years old.

That's the coolest deer rifle I've ever seen.

Beats my lever gun (with which I have yet to kill a deer ...
long story about why involves a business adventure, etc).

But I'll post a pic of it anyway,
because I love it, and miss it.
(It's stored a continent away
while I'm in transition to a different coast.)

That's an old pic. It's actually wearing XS GR sights now,
but will eventually wear a set of Skinner apertures.

I'm also going to have the barrel cut down,
probably to 17.5", but may go all the way to 16.5".

1979,That's about the time I got mine. I have adapted it to a Mauser 98. I love that stock! It fits me perfectly!

That's not a deer rifle, it's a Godzilla rifle! Take a white-tail with that beast and you'll be lucky to find the hooves in the same county!

His looks like a Sika Deer maybe...those are smaller than white-tails

My buddy bought an Marlin/Ballard 45-70, #2 Pacific from a family back East, it had been in the family for over 100 years. What a shooter. The family said the original member had used it to shoot buffalo before they were all gone. Nice weapon!

788Ham, back in the 60's I had a No. 5 Pacific in 45-70. It was a real hoot to shoot. It weighed a ton but sure shot nice. That is one gun to this I still kick myself for ever getting rid of it. Oh well....

You a 788 Remie sorta guy? Great guns, I've got one in 30-30...absolute tack driver.
