Don't hold your breath for the idea of getting ANYTHING you wouldn't be allowed to own as a non-cop in CA. I knew a guy in the guard who was a cop in Paso Robles area, his chief wouldn't memo him to buy ANYTHING.
I'm definitely not. Being a law officer in and of itself means that they can get hi cap mags. But anything else requires a department letterhead to buy. I'm not thinking about that though....just worried about getting in at this point. I'm just curious about what other departments use for rifles, especially considering that the N. Hollywood shootout happened 13 years ago last Sunday and the huge impact that's had in police rifles.

Where are all those Ruger .40 carbines? They don't seem to be in service anymore and I want one!

Summit Gunbroker had some of them as LE trade ins a while back. I've only seen one of the Ruger PC series carbines in the wild, and it looked pretty well made.

if they allow you a personal Ar type rifle i wonder if it has to be in .223?

Often the rifle will have to meet a specifications list, including caliber, put out by the department and be approved for duty, and the officer will likely have to use department issued ammunition.

My Dept issues every thing except back up weapons. Currently Glock model 22 40cal(soon to be a slim frame 45, not sure on the model #), Colt M4 if SRT member other wise same thing but semi only, mossberg 590 w/14" barrel. We did have ruger mini14 prior to the ar switch in the late 90's. MSP who shares the building with us issues every thing including back ups. They carry a Sig model ??? 40cal DAK trigger, rock river AR and 870 shotguns, back up is a S&W model ??? 357 snub. County carrys Hk P7's that I believe are 40cals and not sure on the rest.
