Went out yesterday morning and did the shoot. What a gorgeous day in SE Texas! Used two rifles - a Browning BL22 and a 1963-era Winchester 250 that I inherited from my Dad, both shooting Winchester X-pert .22LR. My Browning must be zeroed for 100 yards, because I had the front bead buried in the rear leaf with a 6'0 clock hold and coulnd't get consistent groups. Switched to Dad's 250 and shot well for open sights...well, for me it was good shooting at least.
For kicks, I had made some 3x5 squares on paper. Went and hung them out after a couple pages of cloverleafs. Used the Browning again. First 3x5, I was trying to cut a fine sight - and the target looked like a shotgun was being used. Second 3x5, I said, "nuts with this," and did a point-shoot style of shooting. Wouldn't you know - I had about a 1 1/2 group going. The guy to my left was shooting his ubersoopershooter Magnum. I was trying to time my shots between his, but somehow I misoverunderestimated his trigger time and he shot the split second before I did...and I jumped and jerked the trigger...BINGO - a 5" flyer. Maybe I can win the "biggest flyer" category.
Mailed my pages in yesterday. Thanks!
