Senior Design: Non lethal accessory for carbines/shotguns

does it need to be the "firing " type/

How about a laser for first generation glock 21's without rails? that is not a guide rod replacement? or any glock lacking rails?

Or a kydex holster with a "push button' retain/release that allows for a rail mounted laser that is large like the TLR-2's or similar?

How about a device similar in concept to the laser genetics designators but that solve the problem of heat/cold cycling and shutting off?

or a modular night vision optic that clips onto the front of many different scopes so we can have a day/night combo with no loss of zero, at a more affordable price than the current offerings?

or are you focusing on "something that directly affects the target" like a spray, taser, projectile, etc?

This is awesome input, it really is helping me develop a design criteria list.

Chuck Perry hit on exactly what I was thinking.

Rethink: a non-lethal accessory need not be used AGAINST someone ... it could have an ancillary or support function. What about something in the buttstock that sends out an immediate "shots fired" call if the gun goes bang, along with a GPS beacon?

Texas scott that is an excellent idea some cities in the us have this technology implemented that monitors for shots fired and the police know immediately. since this technology cannot be everywhere all the time it would be useful to be incorporated in the butt stock of the gun. I would need to gain insight from one of the electrical engineering majors to accomplish this since I am mechanical but this is an excellent idea.
