sniper rifle

If you mean by this that "rifles used by snipers" each start life as some sort of "precision rifle" manufactured as such, and then are modified significantly by an armorer into something that is now substantially different than what it started as, this is not correct anymore. The trend is for the armed forces to buy rifles directly from the manufacturer, designed and made for the specific purpose.
You are quite correct.

thank you friends for such great replies, I see no one has mentioned the CheyTac M200 .375 or .408, it is quite heavy at 27lbs, do you all not think it's in the running or even worth mentioning?

"Accuracy, a weapon is only as accurate as the one holding it, to say one weapon is not as accurate as another is when ignorance comes into play."

While I completely disagree with the implication that one weapon can not be more accurate than another, that statement seems to contradict the original question.
you do know that's my sig.

if you take two different weapons and vise both of them at a indoor range and shoot 5 rounds each, both weapons will only print 1 hole.

umm......no they wont..

well i suppose technically at 50 yds they might......but not at 200, 300, 400 + yards.

never seen a 100-300 yard indoor range, and yes it will print only 1 hole, while you disagree with this I assume your experience with weapons is on the low side, no disrespect intended at all.

sarcasm doesn't translate well in text form Tape. So, just to be clear, you're joking right?

no I'm not joking about printing 1 hole while a weapon is viced properly.

It really depends on what the two rifles are. To shoot a "1 hole" group a .30 caliber rifle has to shoot a 0.29 MOA or better group. There are rifles that do that.

yes, but I think if I viced down your average 91/30, and then viced down you're average AI, their accuracy would not be equal. :)

Kind off topic for this thread though.

I think the .408 cheytac looks sweet Tape! though, it's heavy and pricey to shoot. that said, if I moved up a caliber, it'd be to .338LM.

ive seen 100yd indoor ranges......not common, but they exist..

and secondly....assuming i read your initial post correctly.....you are telling me that you can take ANY "sniper" rifle....and put it in a vice....and it will shoot 1 hole groups at any range.....?

if thats what you are saying, then you are really in no place to question my level of experience.

no I didn't say that

How about you throttle back a little bit on commentary like that, okay? It's not going to help you make friends and influence people around here.

no?

would you please be so kind as to clarify?

Tape, I think your "one-hole" statement and your sig are throwing people off. I don't think you're explaining what you mean very clearly.

Obviously there are some rifles that will shoot one-hole groups out to pretty impressive distances off a very solid rest, but most rifles will not, no matter what vice or bench you're using. Mechanical accuracy is not infinite, and is far, FAR from equal between all weapons.

Please do explain your ideas in more detail so we can stop speculating about what you meant to say.

not trying to make friends or nor do I care if what I say is taken serious, I only post what I have experienced.

i foresee a bright future here.......

however, i would still like some clarification on your previous statement.

Sam I believe you hit it and also I believe it's best if I just drop it, I don't want to start flames here being I like this forum, I will just leave it at if those that think I'm full of it so be it, it's just not worth the ranting too me.

So, uh, what should I do? Are you going to explain what you meant with your sig and "one hole" statements or are you asking me to close the thread so you don't have to?

no I don't want you to lock the thread, the thread was asking "what are your opinions on the best sniper rifle on the market?
also reason for your thoughts, I'm very intrigued by such precision placement shooting"

I believe if the off topic continues it may get too heated and as I speak my mind I would end up not seeing any of you again and I don't want that to happen, as I said, I like this forum and would like to hang around, If those that think I don't know what I'm talking about that's fine with me, and I wish to leave it that way.

Tape.....well perhaps you can PM us as you what you meant......because some of us would still like to know.

THR is a place where open discourse (on topic and polite) is encouraged. People are free to post whatever claims they want, but those claims will most likely be questioned and proof will likely be demanded. If you make a strange or extraordinary claim, do not be surprised when you are called out to provide explanation or proof. It is your prerogative to not post anything more, but then you've shown you have nothing to back up your claims with.
