Sold it. Regretted it. Getting it back!

I've been down that road a few times. Sold a gun and a few years later decided to buy another just like it. The thing is that I have always ended up selling that one too. Long term, I have no regrets about any that I let go.

Twenty years ago I foolishly sold a SA M-1A that had almost all TRW parts. I have regretted it ever since, since TRW made the best M-14s. I have tried for years to get it back. I gave up last year and bought a Bula Armaments M-14.

Been there, done that a few times myself. :D

Me neither. And reality is, I'm 75. So if I did harbor any regrets (which I don't) about guns I "let go" of, I'm not going to be around to harbor those regrets much longer. Heck, for that matter, I'm starting to think about unloading (no pun intended) some of the guns I didn't "let go" of over the years.;)

Shanghai McCoy
I should thin the herd again one of these days.
I'm getting up there in age and, in the end, it's just "stuff"...

True, true but it sure was fun getting there, especially with the thrill of the "hunt," chasing down the newest "latest and greatest", playing with it for awhile then moving on to the next one!

the one gun that I most regretted selling was a Ruger M77 MKII in 6.5x55. It didn’t have any sentimental value.

<snip>

decided I’d go buy myself a new Tikka T3X Hunter in 6.5x55. Figured that would do the trick. The Tikka is most likely going to be more accurate. It’s a slicker, lighter package than that Ruger. It’s more suited to me, BUT that M77 wouldn’t leave me alone.

Well...for a gun that has no sentimental value, I can't for the life of me understand why you'd want that Ruger back over a Tikka. I'll buy the Tikka from you. ;)

I never bought a Tikka. I got the M77 back, so no need. The Tikka just didn’t feel as good in my hands.

Also, take a look at the asking price for the only M77 MKII on Gunbroker right now. People are paying top dollar for M77s these days and 6.5x55 is a pretty rare chambering.

I was forced to sell a lot of guns I didn't want to sell during a divorce, including several that will be difficult to impossible to replace. I have not sold a gun since then and
have no plans to ever sell any guns again.

When I first got married and started having kids, I had to sell all of my guns as we were one step below dirt poor. I had several really nice guns. My favorite being a NIB 9410 that I had to sell to make a car payment. I never even got to shoot it.

After selling them off the first time, I vowed to never sell another gun and haven't since. A few years later, I sold an old car and made quite a bit of money on it. I went back and bought each and every gun I had to sell, albeit, not the same ones, except that 9410, which went astronomical in price, I had to settle for a Rossi Lever .410.

Yeap I have. Most recently I had a 3.5" Performance Center 500 that I sold even though I like it. Immediately regretted it and bought another. I've done that with a few guns over the years.

Several I've sold and regretted, but with time the regret for most went away. Out of those I regret enough that I want to replace them, I doubt I'll ever see the one I sold again, but they are mostly common enough to replace...

I sold a SIG P229 in .40 when I needed the money more than the gun. I loved that gun and seriously regretted having to sell it. A few years later when my finances were more grounded, I bought a used SIG P229 in .40. It isn't my most shot gun, it isn't even my most shot .40, but it is never going anywhere.

I sold a first year S&W 57 with a presentation box and all the tools. I seriously hate that I sold that, but I needed the money, and it can be hard to find ammo or reloading components at reasonable prices for .41mag. Unfortunately, a duplicate would be too much money on my teacher's salary, but I do always have my eye out for a good deal on an N-frame .41mag.

Similar story with a 6" 586-M, and a 4" P&R S&W 19 in like new condition I sold. I needed the money, and both sold for more than I paid for them. The 586, it was a great gun, but I think I'd rather have a 4" barrel, so I will eventually get a 4" 586 (I think any vintage will scratch that itch, heck, a 686 might do it). A local gun shop has a similar S&W 19, but it is about $300 more than I feel comfortable spending (even at $300 less, it would be stretching it and would be tied for the most I ever spent on a handgun).

I really wish I didn't sell my CZ 40B just around when they stopped making them. I know the guy who bought it, we are still on one particular forum, and I occasionally remind him that if he ever wants to sell it to let me know first. It has been a few years since I last reminded him, so it is possible he's sold it since. I don't think he's going to sell, and I am not pressed enough about it to buy a different one (I stopped checking for them a few years ago, they were always just a little more than I wanted to spend).

I don't regret selling my Ruger KP345. Mine was unreliable and I didn't trust it anymore once I finally got it working (I think) and sold it. I really wanted that gun to work out and I regret that it didn't, enough so that I occasionally find myself checking gun shows and auction sites looking for one. I've come close a few times to buying a used one in hopes of better luck.

I stupidly sold my first handgun. Nothing special, nothing wrong with it. It was a Taurus 82, I wanted a .357mag and back then I thought I'd only own 2-4 handguns, so I sold it. Dumb, dumb, dumb, but I had no idea I was a year or two away from becoming a "gun nut" with multiple guns even of the same basic type. I've come close a few times to buying another, though I think instead I'll probably bump it up to a 4" S&W 10. If I saw my 82, it may be worth buying, but I think I'd rather have a Model 10 than just any Taurus 82.

When I first got married my ex convinced me to sell my guns to use the money for a vacation. Not too smart on my part. They included a P220 and a Gold Cup. I replaced the P220 and while I haven’t bought another Gold Cup, I did replace it with a Nighthawk Custom Talon.

My first 1911 was a Norinco that I did a few upgrades on. I sold it to buy a Kimber when they first came on the market. The Kimber turned out to be a good buy but I regretted selling the Norinco. Luckily, I had sold the Norinco to a good friend, and a few years down the road he wanted to sell it so I got it back.

I cannot say the same about the S&W 586 and Colt 70 series 1911 that I sold to get into cowboy action :(

Wish I had back…..SW681 with Bill Jordan grips, the only good SP101 I ever had and it was in 38sp, and my old Gen 2 g17. The rest, good riddens!

My dad sold his beat up Savage .243, twice. It showed back up at a shop and he bought it back, sent it off for a custom bbl and ............never shot it again.
Have no idea why he was goofy like that LOL

I proly shoulda kept my last 629-3 6".
But I don't really hunt w handgun anymore, and .44s are becoming too much for my old bones.

I sold a Colt Delta Gold Cup that I was told I could buy back from the buyer during a bad divorce.

When the divorce was complete he said there was a time limit on the "buy back".
I still have dreams about that pistol
