Sons of Guns

I liked it, although self serving. The episode where they build the 5 lb AR's for that Tiger fellow. I fully expect that to be sold someware soon, like orange county choppers, only with guns.

Not very thrilled to see how they are killing the Feral Pigs.

They show him shooting 8 rounds at this pig, they say 4 but i count 8... maybe it could of been because of editing but here is the problem IMO.

They are not even promoting a clean kill. Hog, Squirrel or Deer... If you are going to hunt an animal, do it with respect.

It also had to of been set up. The hog comes walking on by 15 feet away from a camera crew, quad, and approx 5-10 people. NO hog is going to come that close to you, in daylight and just wait to be killed.

I really didn't like this episode... not cool at all.

OTOH, it was the warrior shooting, and he's going to have to get used to shooting left handed, from the mount. I'd give him a little slack on the pig.

Kingofthehill, he is on an ATV shooting one handed (which was his non-dominant hand) with a paralyzed arm... come on man ;-)...

Also, did anyone else think it was really crappy to fire that guy because Kris said back in the day he ran his mouth? Then he announced his background check came back negatively on national TV? Crappy...

PS, I loved the "accuracy by volume." I've never heard that before lol!

The hog killing is going to turn a lot of neutral people against guns, hunters and gun owners.

Very poor choice for an episode.

I had it on while doing some work and can't help but reiterate the "OCC with guns" feeling....

My two cents.

I've seen MUCH worse gun shows on TV. I was watching some Outdoor Channel (I think) program where some ex-Special Forces guys were pontificating on assault rifles. They were so dull my teenage son said "these guys make machine guns boring!". And the production values of the first season of "American Rifleman" looked like they hired some high school slackers to make it.

Nuclear, your thinking of Larry Vickers. I too find his shows, Tactical Arms and Tactical Impact to be horrible. They are BORING and the camera work is a joke.

I finally watched some episodes of Sons of Guns. Not really good TV. No real stroy line for most of the 4 I watched but I was very excited to see Woody and his MOH.
I thought itt awesome they got his flamethower working and even cooler that he strapped it on and ran it.
I will not be seeing it agian. Too boring and the chick is not much to listen too. She is cute but not enough to watch the show.

I think they should combine 'Sons Of Guns' with 'OCC', 'Jersey Shore' and 'Real Housewives Of Atlanta'....now THAT would be an entertaining show. ;)

What was that old Springsteen song; "57 Channels and Nothing On".........

Watch Sons of Guns and pretend you know jack about the subject. You know so little that when you see a gun you think to yourself, "Hey. that's kind'a neat. Wonder what it is".

Guys - that is the audience this show is directed at. Every non-gun person I know that has watched the show loves it.

Sons of Guns isn't for us and never will be unless you ignore the guns and concentrate on the characters and their interactions with each other, potential and realized customers.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

Sons of Guns isn't for us and never will be
I love custom AK's and Saiga's. Right up my alley.

Been a 'gun person' since I was 5 (1967) and I LOVE the show.

Maybe I'm not one of the 'us'? I think I can live with that. :neener:

I have liked the show from the beginning but what is wearing on me is it seems as though the main dude is becoming exponentially more arrogant and self absorbed in each episode. It's becoming kind of a turn off.

This show in no way helps the image of gun owners. It makes us look like a bunch of loons and losers. Just my opinion.

You know what, when I first saw the show air, I thought it had potential, but after watching a few episodes it seems to be a flop. I kind of reminds me or OC choppers. They are making themselves out to be a custom shop when in fact it appears that they don't have the skilled tradesmen nor the work to justify this. One guy seems to do most of the work while the rest try to make jokes. Then the Boss gets mad and i the end they finish the job. Nothing new or really nothing worth watching.

It's entertaining, but not technically statisfying either on the guns or NFA rules, and occassionally the editing is bad (it appeared to me that the sheriff's semi-auto Thompson went back and forth from 16.5" civilan barrel to 10.5" subgun barrel BEFORE any custom work was shown on it, like they intercut shot scenes with two different props).

PS: My wife loves Sons of Guns and Top Shot even though she would not watch any gun history or tech shows on TV.

Wow - who could have possibly predicted that running a 1919 without a booster would reduce the rate of fire? :what:

I got turned off when the old guy showed up to look around, and he was treated like a piece of dirt.

If they don't want their shop open to the public, then lock the doors and stick a "by appointment only" sign up - that's what they always tell people that walk in anyways..."call and set up an appointment."

There was no reason to treat anyone like that, the guy was practically pushing him out of the front door - I guess because he didn't want to order 6 Saiga shotguns with Excalibur stuck underneath the barrel or whatever.

I also don't know if the "clients" are for real at all. The dude who wanted the remote control AR looked like he thought he was in the mafia or something when he talked about what he wanted. Acted all tough, or whatever. Then while showing him the prototype (that malfunctioned) he looked like a little kid, not exactly professional.

I think the show has an interesting premise - i'm just not really sure what's going on with it.

Discovery had "OCC with guns" in mind form the beginning.

I sent Will a message about all the 'hate' for the show going on here. Got this reply:
E-mails to us and the Network are 95 % positive and, end of the day, the 5%'rs got to watch just to make sure they don't miss a "hate" opportunity. It's a win-win dude :)
:D

First off, Will Hayden is a very knowledgeable gun builder way before this show. He has consistantly turned out superior product over the years, supplying guns to retail outlets such as Atlantic and others. Every rifle he has ever built for me has run perfect with superior fit and finish and most serious gun owners who have dealt with Will in the past would agree.
That being said, Jupiter Productions, the producers of this show had a concept and a format of what they wanted. He could either give them what they scripted or they would find somebody else. Through the process of editing a production company could make Hitler look good on screen or make Ghandi look bad, for that matter. Son's of guns has been booked for a second season. Now he has some clout and some say over the decision making process. I happen to know that he is already traveling around the country looking for sites and situations that will better reflect the industry he's so involved in. Look for more specific, detailed episodes with various firearms while still keeping the broad based audience the show has established. Let's get real here. If Discovery wanted to tape the headspacing of a MA Deuce they would have put out a CD of the process and sold it on line to a very small audience. The show is entertainment to a broad spectrum of the population. That's how you make money in this industry.

Will - Because you're Will (as you said) - get your crew some hairdo makeovers! I want to see the gang on that show - How to Dress (or whatever), that my wife watches.

:D

If Will can tighten up on the drama - that would be nice.

Maybe Will's gang can challenge the Repo Man's family on Jepardy.

But what is is with the local cops taking some nice old antique gun and getting it chopped into a monstrosity? Buy a new M4.

I also don't know if the "clients" are for real at all. The dude who wanted the remote control AR looked like he thought he was in the mafia or something when he talked about what he wanted. Im so glad im not the only one who thought that as well.

He was talking like he was some super secrete top government agency and had to watch what he said in fear of being killed by "The Man"....

That guy looked as cool and convincing as the guy from Transformers running "Sector 7"

i officially deleted it from my DVR. I just can't stomach it anymore.... It has gotten that bad and its painfully obvious when they have malfunctions and try and edit them out.

Gem, I hope you wern't refering to me when you said someone was Will. No I'm not Will Hayden but we are friends that go way back in the firearm industry.
