Saw Discovery has a new show starting January 26th called Sons of guns. It looks like it could be pretty cool. I guess it's based around Red Jacket firearms out of Louisiana. Hopefully it's a decent show, I know I'll check it out.

yawn, Sons of Guns just doesn't do anything for me at all and neither does that Howe and Howe Tech show.

Kidnap and Rescue might be interesting, we'll see.

I've watched some of the video clips for 'Sons of Guns'. Anything that publicly portrays firearms in a positive light is a good thing, in my opinion. But I do have some issues with the writing and editing of the show - the shop owner refers to a 16" AR carbine as an 'M-16' and a 37mm flare launcher as an 'M-203 grenade launcher' Grrrr. And in the episode where they mount a Saiga-12 shotgun under an AR for breaching, they give NO credit or discussion to the similar models fielded to .mil units over the last 30 years - as if this was a brand new idea. Ah, well - if they can bring their quality up I hope they'll be successful.

Red Jacket eh? I've a Saiga conversion made by them I purchased from Atlantic Arms a while back. I have the show set to record on the DVR. It will be interesting to see if the show is any good.

I personally think top shot is somewhat of a joke. I was not impressed with most of the shooters on the first season and probably will not watch the second season. They did not do anything that most people who shoot firearms regularly could not. As for sons of guns I think it looks interesting and I will check it out.

I look forward to it. Furthermore I really like this new trend of mainstream shooting shows. I think it will do alot of good for the shooting community and possibly convert some anti's !

Watching the suppressed saiga episode right now. I can't say thi show is good or bad but I can tell you I would LOVE a semi-automatic, suppressed shotgun.

Ok...shows over and I am not impressed. The suppressed Saiga not that difficult and successful suppressed shotguns have been done before. As for the masterkey...



I have also seen 1100's done this way. Why use a shotgun that has a non structural receiver top and a mag that will get in the way?

Show was entertaining at points but a shop that makes "military guns" staffed by smiths that have never heard of a M-203....not impressive at all.

The shows not for Gun owners in the know, just as American Chopper was not for those who built or knew how to build bikes.
Why?
Because the shows are 80% drama, 10% talent and 10% crap.
But alas without the 80% drama there would be no show.

Some things are just made to be entertaining. To some degree, everything can be one-upped by someone else who is better. I personally think I'll enjoy it although I have to admit that OCC got WAYYY too dramatic in short order.

I thought it was good. It's always exciting when we get a new show based around firearms. That suppressed Saiga 12 would be pretty fun. I guess I need to save up.

From what I saw it looked okay (although I did roll my eyes when the kid had never heard of an M203...and he's working on customer's guns?) I have a feeling it will suffer the same fate of all the similar discovery shows like Monster Garage, OCC, Deadliest Catch, et. al. where they have a good first season of technical builds and innovation but then focus on the drama and interpersonal relationships between employees rather than the actual build. Thats when I stop watching, but maybe that's what gets the ratings.

Watching it right now on the Tivo. I can see them heading in to a "American Chopper with guns" direction, but considering that show's longevity and history, that's not a bad thing.

I held one of those suppressed Saiga's at one of the local shops here. Balances well but unfortunately I couldn't get to hear it as it was a customer's gun not the shops.

The supressed saiga didn't sound that quiet to me. I know it wasn't as loud as before, but I would not have spent $2500 on that, especially if I was expecting something out of "No Country For Old Men"

As a Red Jacket customer I found it fun to watch the show. They're a nice bunch of people to deal with so I'm glad they're finding this commercial success.

Yes, I thought a few things were a bit strange; there are European companies that have been making shotgun suppressors for years. And the sound level testing setup wasn't exactly precision. But I can't argue with the fact that Red Jacket does some great work and they make some VERY cool and unique weapons.
