Stuff in movies/shows that detract from the experience?

Just the opposite ...

In 1977/78 as I was watching the movie Cross of Iron (which was turning out to be pretty good in the "hardware" department), I almost launched out of my seat when the T-34 turret on what I was sure was a good mock-up of a T-34 turned ... and I realized that it was a real T-34! :what: WHOA! :D

I had read the (excellent!) book prior to seeing the movie but that T-34 wiped away all of the screenplay deficiencies for me. :)

C'mon Chief...How You Really Feel?!

It annoys my wife to no end. But I've trained my son well.

We went to see Return of the Jedi in the theater last year, when they were showing older movies trying to survive the year. At the part where Vader saves Luke at the expense of his own life and Luke is dragging is father to the Millennium Falcon, I leaned over to my son and whispered:

Me: So, that's Luke Skywalker, Jedi master, right?

Son: Yeah.

Me: Strong in the force, right?

Son: Yeah.

Me: Able to lift his X-wing fighter using the Force, right?

Son: Yeah.

Me: Then why is he dragging his father across the deck all the way back to the Millennium Falcon?

Son: YEAH!

Wife: SHHHHH!

Another series of books I was reading, the author overused the word "instantly". Grated on my nerves after a while.

Yeah, I often notice that as well. One Urban Fantasy Horror series I enjoy (Simon R Green Nightside series) is pretty bad about that, especially with the word "appalling". Luckily I have the audiobooks and the voice actor says most of the oft repeated words in an accent I enjoy, so it takes the annoyance out of it.

Also ... I think Luke dragged Vader to an imperial shuttle, not the Falcon. That was busy being piloted by Lando and trying to blow up the death star ;)
