Stupid gun comments on "Elementary"

So I was watching the CBS show Elementary, which I normally enjoy. However, in this case, they were discussing a drive by shooting of Detective Bell. In the previous scenes, they showed the drive by, and the shooter was clearly using an automatic weapon. When they were talking about it in the forensics lab, Holmes says it was clearly a semi-automatic weapon fired on 3-round burst (an MP5 to be specific), then goes on to posit that the barrel was rifled instead of smooth bore (amazing deduction, I know), and that this indicates the shooter has access to high end "weapon augmentation."

Woah...they got a gun concept wrong on TV? I am shocked. I might have to sit in the corner and cry for a while.

(Of course, I'm always vaguely surprised to hear that they still MAKE tv shows, so excuse my fragile naivete.)

I'm actually getting used to the anti-gun snarky comments (more on NCIS:LA), but the blatant stupidity that even a novice gun owner (or a dude who plays enough Call of Duty) could pick up was amazing...

Funny but they actually Pay an EXPERT

They pay expert retired LEO's or military men to advise them.

Then they TOTALLY ignore the advise for a reason only they could answer - poetic license [ whatever that is supposed to mean ].

I have heard and seen enough on NCIS,CSI,Elementary etc to choke to laughter any with more than a TV viewer knowledge of firearms.

And I truly see no reason to say the DUMB stuff they shovel weekly.

Never watched ELEMENTARY. Don`t care for gimmicky remakes of classics. Sorry but not surprised to hear CBS disappointed you!

And this is why my entire TV diet of late consists solely of Criminal Minds, NCIS and the local news. And I can go a month without watching any of them, with no ill side effects....

I saw that episode a couple weeks ago. My wife had to listen to me explain what a rifled barrel was and how stupid the writers of the show were.

Didn't he also say that one of the reasons these criminals use this weapon was because it could easily be fired accurately with one hand? I've never fired an MP5, especially with burst capabilities, but I am pretty sure two hands are preferred over one.

I like that show; it's the only thing I watch regularly on TV. It bugs me a little that they haven't done anything more with Moriarty.

Yeah, they blew it with the MP5 foolishness.

You all should watch "Sherlock". It's a BBC show (I know how it sounds). It's really really good. I've seen "Elementary". Doesn't compare. The acting is much better. And thy aren't gun haters. Watson is retired a military corpsman. And he carries and uses his weapon. Even Holmes has a time or two. They aren't gun haters on that show. It's not a propaganda show.
