Surrendering Your CCW Piece to a LEO

Ok..... since somebody mentioned that the OP's post wasn't quite as far fetched as zombies, I'll go the extra mile.

Zombies are walking the earth. An officer sees your gun printing and demands it so he can shoot at their brains. A man next to him reminds him, "Can't have no twitchers!" What do you do? Hand him the gun, or tell him, "Sorry. See you on the other side bud." and run away?

So you're a cop, and you haven't got a gun? LOL. Make me.

Ya want my gun?? Well, here it is...NOT! Nah, ya can't have it.

I have a gun and you don't :neener: :neener: :neener:

Boy, if you could see how red you are....

Ok I guess I should have thought ahead to the fake badge thing .

Fact is every officer I have personally know bought a wallet that they keep their badge in along with their departmental PICTURE ID , it is their everyday wallet so if they have it they have their badge and ID with them . If you know your state seal you will know if it is a fake , you can also ask them for their departmental DSN while you have their ID in your hand and if they don't know that number they aren't a cop as this number gets put on every report they write . Sorry , if you don't know what a DSN is you need to make friends with a cop .

I have been told they always carry their badges if for no other reason than to get out of traffic tickets as when they pull out their wallets they "accidentally" flash their badge to the cop who stopped them . "Let me tell you , I know a couple of guys who should have gotten their drivers license suspended many many times since becoming a cop"

A few guys I know have gone as far as having the drivers license picture taken while they are in uniform .

Well, maybe that works for some of the city police but a buddy of mine tried that when he was caught at 25 over and the state trooper wrote him for reckless anyway. Some Virginia Beach officers have been known to write their own and surrounding cities officers when they do something stupid.

Now, I think I would be inclined to be lenient. You write a cop for reckless and he could lose his livelihood. Think about what a suspended license would mean to a UP. Incidentally, off-duty traffic infractions must be reported to their direct supervisor, usually within 24 hours. They have to report charges, not just convictions and they are answerable for anything they do off-duty. Most of the experienced guys I know are pretty laid back. 10-15 over and they pretty much let you go. Many will write for speeding when they could have written for reckless. This is getting off topic a bit, so I'll stop.

What if the "cop" looked like Elvis?

I think I saw this question in "Guns and Weapons for Law Enforcement" magazine. Where do people find the time to think of this stuff:banghead: ?

So I ask if caught in a situation where your life wasn't at that moment in danger yet it could be if things change and escape wasn't an option and the guy next to you sees you pull out you CCW weapon and he shows you his badge and asks for your gun so he can intervene .

What would you do ?

Give it to him if you had a backup ? Give it to him regardless of a BU gun ? Laugh at him and tell him to go get his own ?

Are there places where you would be obligated by law to give it to him/her ?

As a LEO, I always carry. My department authorizes me to carry off duty but only if I'm qualified with what I'm carrying. I have violated that policy and will continue to violate that policy. rule number one is have a gun. He/she violated rule one and will have to live with that decision for the rest of their life. I'm not giving up my guns.

Well after reading some of this and discovering that a LEO has no legal duty to protect me then he can KMA I'll keep my gun and protect myself under ALL circumstances.

Thanks for the heads up.

Nope.

If a cop is a guuny, he'll bring his own. If he's not a gunny, he's likely to be anti-gun (for us, not them, of course) and I don't like helping the opposition.

Shoot, I don't particularly like the idea of a UNIFORMED officer trying to take my piece away, much less some guy in plainclothes.

Too bad, so sad. They're cops, they should have a higher standard, not lower. I'd have a lot more respect for cops in general if they'd just get rid of the powertrippers. As it stands, they do the thin blue line and play up the whole us vs. them thing.:cuss:

I wouldn't give it to him for many reasons:

- He might be an accomplice in the crime. His job is to flash a badge (real or not) and collect the guns of any pesky CCW holders.
- He might think that I'm an accomplice in the crime. I might be there to take care of any pesky plainclothes officers who identify themselves when they see me draw my gun.
- As mentioned, he's going to protect society with my gun. I, on the other hand, am going to protect myself and my family, first. My CCW says "Self Defense" in the "Reason" box. It doesn't say "To provide logistical weapons support to unprepared off-duty cops."

IF

If he doesn't carry off duty, what makes you think he's going to stick around to borrow yours when the SHTF? He'll be the first one outta there>
