The DA refused to even send this to the Grand Jury originally. He wasn't "waiting for more info", his office flat out said they believed this to be a clear case covered under the Castle Doctrine and that was that.

From published reports - and I have no other knowledge of the case - it appears the the DA initially believed Frosch's story and decided that the "Castle Doctrine" applied. It appears that some facts came out in the investigation that did not match Frosch's original story.

Here's what almost all the published stories have verbatim. Note the DA's emphasis on facts.

At the time of the shooting, Kaufman County authorities declined to file charges against Frosch and cited the "Castle Doctrine." The law allows residents to use deadly force to protect their property in some situations.

"Self-defense claims are weighed on a case-by-case basis, based on the facts," Kaufman County District Attorney Rick Harrison said Monday. "We decided to take it to the grand jury, and they indicted him."

The second sentence implies to me that as the DA investigated, some facts were discovered that did not match the initial story.

Here's one published account that says precisely that:

No charges were filed against Mr. Frosch at the time of the shooting, but sheriff’s deputies found evidence conflicting with his statement and forwarded the case to the district attorney.

“The district attorney thought we had enough evidence and took it forward to the grand jury,” Sheriff’s spokesman Bryan Francis said.
