maybe jokingly ask about his use of the Old Spice.
LOL.

Frank, that is one awesome range. It's even manicured.

You're gonna have to have the rest of us down for a BBQ & shoot, you know?

:D

BBQ and shoot?

Sounds like fun, but you're going to have to talk to Slugless about that.

It's HIS range! I have to drive about 50 miles to shoot there.

Here's one more cool thing about that place that's unlike any other range I've ever been to...

At the 200 yard range, it would take an old fart like me all day to change targets.

So they recommended that I just drive my truck down there!

It's about 3 miles for me :)

BBQ & Shoot? I've not seen it at the Rifle range, but sure, they do that kind of thing. The oil field service companies occasionally hire out the entire Skeet or Sporting Clays range for a day & host big shoot-outs.

Just wash your hands!

I'm going to ask them if they can get a "range-cam" so I can see if it's crowded or not during a weekend.

Hey, anyone have advice on my right hand question? Even if it's shoot more and figure it out, slug-boy?

Well, I haven't read every word in this lengthy thread, but I haven't noticed any mention Smallbore Cowboy Lever-Action Silhouette yet.

The Marlin 39A is the defacto rifle for this sport, in which you fire off-hand 40/60 shots at 10/15 metallic chickens, pigs, turkeys and rams out to 100 yds. This rifle is just made to nail things.

These are 1/5th size targets for Smallbore Silhouette but I often use a peep-sight 39A for a challenge against the scoped Anschutz's and I fair quite well...

There's a forum for it as well for those interested in the sport. Linky
And here's a link for rules I found. Rules

Rebounding Hammer Fix

There's a guy named Gizzy that posted this fix somewhere in rifle country. It's very easy:

1. Many of the marlins with rebounding hammers still have a half cock notch on the hammer. It's recommended that you only proceed with hammers that have the half cock notch.

2. Remove the hammer strut, grind off the lower leg where it Y's out, (I cut mine off with a dremel and cutting wheel) and re-install it.

When you fire the rifle you'll get a nice "snap" instead of a "boing". Some folks think it improves accuracy because you eliminate the hammer movement during firing.

Slugless

This may sound weird, and not what a lot of shooters do, but I wrap the last 3 fingers of my right hand around the outside of the lever. This comes from me having the 336 first which has a larger lever. When I got the 39A I found that I was kind of cramped keeping my fingers inside that smaller lever and it was affecting my accuracy. When I began wrapping my fingers around the outside the groupings got a lot better on the target. I know having your fingers outside the lever will slow down the rechambering process, but it sure improved my shots.

Brassman,

Thanks, I was wondering about that. It seemed like one was "supposed" to keep the fingers w/in the lever but it just didn't feel right. I'll do some snapping in tonight, try it out.

Mordecai,

How big are those chickens? It says 1/2 size but that doesn't mean anything to me.

Wow.

Some very interesting posts put up while I slept.

Got to work now, busy day ... a few thoughts later ...

Oh, just this for now:
Frank, I know those targets in post 699
look like 3x5s from 200 yds,
but we're sorry, you can't use them in the 3x5 target shoot. :neener:

I just wanted to share with you guys where Bambam-31 (congrats on the new 39A btw!), Beetle Bailey and I play on the firing line with our 39As.

Steel sillhouettes start at 35 yards, 50 yards, 70 yards and ends at 100 yards. We usually play HORSE using pistols, but yesterday ventured into playing horse with our rimfire rifles with much fun following!

Thanks, fellas. Was very happy to buy it!

Rich--Ken cheats. He uses his CZ. :neener:

No matter. When the new 39a gets here, he can use the Mountie. ;)

Then we can truly have a 39a game of HORSE.

Hey, Black Majic...

Do those metal critters fall down when you shoot them, or do they just swing?

I shot some pistol silhouette way back in the 70s, and all the critters had a small "foot" they stood on. They fell over pretty easy when you hit them with a .38spl.

These seem to be hanging from above.

I wish there was something fun like that to shoot at here in Houston!

I think those "Big metal cylinder thingies" Mal is referring to are probably better known as "Oil Refineries" to the rest of us.

Never shot one myself, but I suspect that it would produce some serious excitement when the security forces started doing their deal.

Those steel silhouettes just swing. That's the steel array on the pistol side over at Angeles Shooting Range. You can also shoot pistol caliber carbines and shotguns at those targets. On the other side, they also have steel for rifles going from 200 yds. to 700 yds., but those are mainly fixed. A nice range, really.

I thought Mal was talking about cow bells....:p

Mal,

I actually [strike]knew[/strike] suspected that's what you meant,
but thought I'd play with it a little. ;)

I doubt a 39 would make one go "boom",
but it would still get attention from the ... guards.

Too many threads, man. :D

Now I know what Nem feels like when he gets his threads crossed! :p

You bet I'm gonna send in another one! :D
