Can I join?
Where's the pic page?

Need to get out more, hoping to change that as niece want to learn to hunt.
Will take her out to the range a few times before season starts July 1st.

Here's my pair of 39s. The carbine is the 39D discussed in another thread and the 39A has an AC SN prefix.

Scopes?

Csmkersh,
I'm curious, what are the scopes on your Marlins? I've been looking for a compact scope for my Model 39 and at the moment am using a Bushnell 3x-9x 32mm AO Airgun scope however it is much bigger than what I'd like to have on the gun at 12.2" long and 13.5 oz.weight... The scopes you are using on your Model 39's look great as far as physical size is concerned. They fit the Model 39A profile much better than my Bushnell 72-0039 Sportman series scope.

Thanks, Mitch & Shadow...

Mueller makes great scopes but they, too, cost 4 times what the old Simmons did. The Simmons 3-9x32 AO is a good little scope as well. Comes with rings and can be found for as little as $35 plus shipping.

Model 39 Forend Tennon Screw Needed

Good morning,

I am searching for a Marlin Model 39 forend tennon screw for the forend cap. I have a Marlin model 39 manufactured in 1922 and I am looking for an original screw. I am unconcerned about the finish, as long as it's not buggered up.

I have tried Bob's and Numrich and it appears they have only replacements. I'm kinda new at this and if it's a pipe dream trying to find an original part then just let me know.

I appreciate your time. Thanks and have a great day.

Was able to remove the burr with a file today, and the gun is extracting smoothly again. Just put in an order for a new firing pin from Numrich, so hopefully I will be back in business soon.

To reiterate,

DON'T DRY FIRE YOUR 39S PEOPLE!

This is the busiest week at work for me in <calculating> seven years.

I didn't plan it this way. Just happened.

Glad to see all is well here.
I'll be back ...

Marlin 39A and scope...

Sam, thanks for your reply... Sorry to hear they have been discontinued...

Over the weekend I installed a Bushnell Sportman Airgun scope 3-9x 32MM AO on my new Model 39A and today I fired it with the intent of sighting in the scope... As this is a brand new gun, I have only fired 10 shots with it to check it out prior to installing the scope purely as a means of making sure the gun was working properly... After today, I'm going to have to think long at hard about changing scopes, this scope worked out very well...

Today at our small outdoor 50 ft range, after my Buddy and I finished firing several pistols, I loaded up 10 rounds of CCI Standard Velocity cartridges in the Model 39A and with a sighting in target of nested diamonds on a grid, with the scope set at 6x, I proceeded to fire all ten rounds into the 1/2" square in the center of the diamond shapes...

Its the most amazing experience of sighting in a new scope installation, to put a scope on with the turrets set to 0, and have it centered right out of the box is amazing at any distance... I handed the 39A to my friend who was shooting with me and he fired 10 shots into one ragedy hole centerd on his pistol target and both our targets, you could cover the 10 shot groups completely with a nickel...

I realize a 50 ft pistol range is not a fair test but just a first step, next time I shoot it will be at 25 Yards, I might have tried that today except that I haven't finished building the 25 Yd. firing position yet. This is a new range we are building on my friend's farm and next step will be to add a 50 Yd. firing position. I have a hunch the 39A is going to give me the incentive to get on to that pretty quickly...

Hope you all had as great a day as we did,
from Mitch & Shadow... :D

DON'T DRY FIRE YOUR 39S PEOPLE!

Ack this is a practical problem as counting 19 shots isn't going to happen everytime i shoot.

Also still wondering about straight versus barrel shape for Wolff hammer spring replacement.

Your Marlin will take the later "barrel shaped" mainspring.
Marlin discontinued using the old flat spring sometime in the 1930's.

To determine for sure, simply remove the stock and look.
Note that changing these barrel shaped springs can be VERY difficult.

OK I am declaring membership anyway!! :) I don't own a 39A however I did just buy one 2 hours ago.

Its a fathers day gift. :D

I'm looking forward to shooting it with my dad though. It will be a fun step up from the Daisy red rider BB gun he got me almost 25 years ago, but along the same theme. :p

Because people have commented that the 39A is kind of hard to find, I was really pretty surprised to find it in stock, in fact they had FIVE in stock. :what:

Now I just have to wait 10 days to pick it up.....thats saturday the 14th of June.....tick tock tick tock.

Diggers, welcome in.

Yours is what I call "creative membership".

Bring your dad along to the club house after you give him the gift.

And what a gift it is. Great choice.

I, too, owned a Daisy as a kid. My first gun.

OK, back to work with me. Never ending right now ...

Nem

PS: you could be a popular person if you post the location of that gun shop that has five 39's in stock.

Good stuff Diggers - lets see some pics when you get it. Will you be shooting it scoped or with open sights? Or perhaps through peep sights?

I bought some .22 shorts today, just for a bit of fun to try through my 39A. I'm also going out this weekend to cull some wallabies using the high velocity stuff.

Good golly, Diggers! I can't imagine (well, sadly, I actually can) having to wait 10 days to get "approved" for firearms ownership... a .22 rifle. :barf:

Not to turn this into a poly-sci thread, but I thought that was why we went to the NICS verification system. (Yeah, yeah, I know all the states aren't as conservative as AL.) It's an unfortunate reality our society has turned to the present condition.

Nonetheless - congratulations on the Marlin! You'll enjoy it.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty excited to pick it up.....even though it isn't really mine.

joe_kidd We will stay with standard sights for now. Maybe I will get a peep sight for it later, depends on how my dad feels about the sights it has.

ALSO I'm curious about those .22 shorts....what is the velocity on those?? If you have shot them, how is loud is the report?

I have been wondering what the min-fps is that would be safe to use in the 39A.
I have seen some .22 ammo that is pretty slow (thus quiet I'm guessing) but I'm a bit worried that the bullet would get stuck in a longer barrel. Some of this ammo says its for pistols only .

What do you all think?
