Hi All
I can't believe I had to search all the way to page six to find the model 39 club.
Have been having trouble with the last round feeding practically since I acquired Sweet Lips.:uhoh: I think I finally may have found the culprit.:) The part that feeds the cart. must be carefully centered when you tighten the screw on the left side. If it is not centered it will bind and not feed the last one or two cart's. Before that the feeder spring apparently has enough tension to overcome it. So don't just tighten that screw as a routine check. My nichol's worth.

Hello All,

I'm new to the 39A Club... hope to learn how to outfit and take care of my newest rifle addition. My first upgrade will be a sling. Suggestions appreciated.

After doing alot of reading and seaching and comparing I decided to buy a Marlin.

My first hunting rifle was a Marlin 336 (35 Remington Caliber), given to me from my Dad. I've always loved this gun but the ammo cost is now crazy ($2.50 per round). The 39A has a very similar feel to my 336.

I bought my 39A yesterday at Cabela's for $480 but got a $150 gift card in the deal so I guess it cost me $330. I've been planning to buy one for some time but the price tag kept me from doing it until yesterday. Just couldn't pass up that deal!

I also saw a Marlin 39A .22 in Cabela's Gun Library yesterday for $16,999.99, I guess these rifles tend to keep their value!!!

Kankujoe;

I'm going to suggest a Turner sling. All premium leather, top quality, in other words a perfect match for a Marlin 39A. Go to: www.turnersling.com. However, the web simply can't match the experience of reality. I have several of them & have no problem recommending them to others.

Pulled my 77 Golden 39A out this afternoon. Remounted the scope and sighted it in for 2" high at 40 yards with CCI Stingers (odd numbers but it's what I had to work with today). Don't know why I posted this mundane activity but the thing runs like clockwork, gotta love it.

Hello all, I have had a Marlin 336 R.C. since I bought it new in 1968, but never thought much about a lever action .22. I've had bolt actions, semi-autos and at one time was seriously looking to buy a pump. Then a couple months ago I ran across this website.

After reading many threads about the .336, I noticed the 39A club. The more I read, the more intrigued I became. Then I started looking for a Marlin model 39A. The problem was, I really preferred the older ones without the checkering and the cross bolt safety. I found a new one at Gander Mountain, and a new one at one of the local gun stores, but not what I was looking for. Then one day a couple weeks ago, A friend asked me if I wanted to spend some time going to pawn shops. He was looking for a guitar and I would look for a model 39A. The last shop we went to, there it was. A 1964 Marlin 39A in at least 95%. With it came a leather sling, and a 4X Simmons scope for $400. It is now sitting in my gun vault. I don't know if it was a good deal or not, but I am pleased with it.

Okay, now I have a Marlin model 336 R.C. that I love, and a Marlin model 39A that I finally found. I have been lurking on this site for quite some time. It is time I join THR as well as the 336 club and the 39A club. There are so many fine people on here with so much knowledge, how can I go wrong. I am thoroughly hooked on these lever actions.

Welcome Jerry46! Great intro.

I'm looking forward to reading your range reports and hunting exploits with your Marlins!

Thanks for joining our ranks. Chances are you'll end up a addict.

Hey guys! I just recently rode out hurricane Ike.

Fortunately for me,my family, my house, my cars, and my guns all survived without damage.

We went six days with no lights, no internet, no cable TV, no telephones, no cell phones, and no idea when it would get better.

We've got it all cleaned up now, and we're very fortunate. Lots of folks can't wash off the damage this storm left behind.

I'm ready to get out and do some shooting!

Stopping in after ten brutal days at work
(on the heals of 365 others.
Last day off was now officially 1 year, 3 months ago.
It's what I get for starting my own business.
It's starting to pay off though, in spades.)

Still, very much missing my time in this thread.

So cool to see new members (welcome, Jerry),
glad to read that Frank survived Ike,
and that the 39 is still alive and kicking
(with the help of an enthusiastic admin ;) ).

Well, effective today, I join the ranks of Marlin 39A owners. I have admired the 39 since 1990, when I first fired one owned by a friend of mine. Of course, it was always easier to justify buying, other less costly .22s. The problem was, none of the other .22s that I own(ed) ever presented that "adult-heft" we so frequently associate with centerfire long guns.

So, some months back, I set my resolve literally to save my pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters in emptied coffee jars and to buy a 39A. About 6 weeks back, I finally had enough "coin" saved to buy a 39A. Problem that presented next was locating one. For the past month or so, I have called every local firearms establishment just about weekly, in an attempt to locate a new 39A, heck, even a nice used one. Seems when folks buy a 39A, they hang on to them.

Well, the sales persons kept telling me that they could order one, and when I inquired, they told me all of the suppliers were backordered, 3 to potentially 6 months?! Holy cow! That means I likely wouldn't be able to use it for small game season. That didn't seem fun, but seemed the price I was going to pay to get my 39A...you know, that whole "the early bird", well, I was the late bird. As I picked up the phone to call back to the dealer and have them order up a 39A for me, I thought, I'm going to try one last call to Gander Mountain in Utica. OMW, they had a 39A on the rack...one, and only one.

So, I gave the salesman my name and assured him I would be there directly to take ownership of that little gem. An hour later, I was walking out the door with my Marlin 39A, and a dandy new sling for it to boot. When I got home, I unboxed it, cleaned and oiled it, put the sling and shouldered it for the first time to fire some Aguila Colibri in my 20-yard indoor range. It didn't feel like I recalled some 18 years back when I last shouldered one. It felt better, because this one is mine. :)

I loaded up 23 rounds of Aguila Colibri (1 in the chamber and 22 in the tube), and tried it out. She printed a nice little cluster of about 1" at 20 yards, but that was of course that was seated, unsupported and using iron sights. To say the least, I was thrilled with the feel and the function. The accuracy was as good, and truthfully even better than I could possibly have expected for that type of ammo. :) So, now I have my 39A, my small game license and ammo.

The sole decision I have to make now is to take this sweet little 39 hunting with iron sights, or to mount a nice little scope on her. Anyhow, I just thought I would post here and thank all of the folks who have taken the time to make posts and upload pictures. All of the posts and pictures here really reinforced my desire to purchase my own 39. I'll be sure to make my own additions of posts and pictures here as I put her to use, at the range and in the field.

I am in the Marlin 39A Club now too.

Woo hoo! My other lever action rifles have a new sister today! Grin.

The new rifle came in on a special order from our local gun store.

She is a SWEET looking gun and I am very happy. I hope to shoot her this Sunday and Monday.

I have always been pleased with my lever action rifles in any make, caliber and especially in 22LR. My husband loves his too!

The men who run my local store are absolutely GREAT! We have bought several items from them and will continue to do so.

Here is the name and information of my LOCAL store:

MONTANA ORDNANCE & SUPPLY

2100 Stephens Avenue
#118
Missoula, MT
59801
Office: 406- 549-8177

It is a great store to do business with, if they don't have it in stock, they will order it for you, if you want something unusual or older - they are @ gun shows and they do consignments too.

Thank you, gentlemen, and you run a GOOD shop! My husband told me to thank you again too!

Sincerely,

Catherine

I finally joined the Marlin 39A ranks. Here's my new gun with a Nikon Prostaff 4X32 rimfire classic. I'm retiring my Remington 572 after 28 years.

WELCOME Doc, Catherine and Winchester243 to the Marlin 39 club of enablers! Fine intros all. More evidence that these excellent rifles attract excellent folks.

Be sure to post your observations, exploits, adventures and experiences with your 39's. You'll find there are a good many of us that can't imagine life without out a 39 and love to talk about them, hear about them and shoot them.

If you get the chance join the monthly rimfire match. So far this month we're sadly under represented.

Make mine Marlin

I scoped my 77 Golden 39A because for those real satisfying slow one shot hits my eyes aren't so good with irons . The 60 under it is my closer range varmit plinker and the .357 1894c above it is an alternative to the 870 for HD .......and just frigging riot at playtime!

I had fun with my 39A this morning. I have my BSA Sweet .22 set to swap across all of my .22LRs. So, I took it and mounted it to my 39A, and loaded up some Aguila Colibri. I took it to my basement range and tried her out at 20 yards. Seated and using a sling, it prints a nice, tight little clutser, all shots touching. Wow! Just wow! It feels like an adult rifle, not a toy!

<<Sniff>> It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. This rifle is going to prove to expensive! I've already gone through over 500 rounds of Aguila Colibri with it! Everytime I get bored, I pull out my 39A and fill my empty time with meaningful me-time. :neener: I feel as-happy-as the birthday when I got my first lever-action BB gun.

Doc, Catherine and Winchester, welcome in!

Great to see three new members in one week.

Winchester, gotta agree, that Nikon prostaff rimfire is the way to go if you're gonna scope it (which I did).

Wow, you all are making me jealous that you're getting to shoot yours. I hope to get a day off in the next few months to take mine out.

It is a Marlin 39A and a Ruger week for us here!

Thanks to all of you!

I got another SWEET Ruger super single action revolver today too.

It is a 22LR/22WMR, 6.5 inch barrel, blued, adjustable site like my other one that has wood grips only this one has those black grips. Very nice.

We got it from the same local store here in town too.

Catherine

Yes, they are and I absolutely ADORE Marlin and Ruger firearms.

Lever action rifles and single action revolvers are my favorites!

I have a few other well known brands and 'styles' too.

I hope to be able to put up some pictures with 'help'.

Thanks.

Catherine

Well... I should be able to go do some shooting with the ol' 39A on Sunday. It's been way too long. I'm looking forward to it...

Just kinda letting the club know I'm still around. Hope everybody's doing okay.

Another Marlin and Ruger addict here. I'm up to 4 Marlins (5 if you count one I got my son) and ummm 8 Rugers.

Catherine my daughter is a Griz so I might have to do some window shopping at your local store next time I'm in town visiting my daughter. However I like you have a great local shop, If he doesn't have it in stock, he can get it and he's always reasonable if not downright about the cheapest price I can find.
