We always used coolers with bags of ice in them, when your trolling on Lake Erie, you can't just pack up and go home. I always had about a 1 1/2hr trip on a normal day of 3' waves to get back to shore.
My favorite place to fish was 300 degrees north x north west out of Wallnut creek marina, out in the first trench.
Here is me with the biggest walleye I caught on Lake Erie.
It was almost 33" long 20" around the girth and weighed 13 lb. I caught him in 120' of water about 9 miles out.
He could feed several of us.

Lot of water out there, almost 10,000 sq miles.

Freshwater fish can have near-microscopic parasites that are killed by heat during cooking.

Ceviche is "cooked" using the protein reaction to vinegar and citrus Ph change.
Same for serving sashimi or sushi--freshwater fish are at least parboiled; eel are grilled to make them food safe.
Ok that's what I figured, I fry most of my freshwater fish anyway other then smoking trout or salmon.

Salmon!,
I caught this bad boy about 5years ago in the Niagara river, between the power plants. He would feed a lot of us!
35" long, 34 lbs. But Salmon is best smoked in my opinion. I'm due for another trip up there. This is in your back yard @troy fairweather

We need to get together up there sometime. I thought I was going to have to shoot this one with my 9mm, it took over a mile drift to get him up. We were clear down past Art Park before I laid eyes on it.

About 3.5 hours to Pulaski I have not been up in 3-4 years. Would be great to get members together.

That would be awesome! Not to late to get a charter together. It's a 12 hour drive for me but who's counting! It used to be only 4 hours drive for me when I lived in Pa.
But then we would have to converge on Armored Farmer's farm with all our Salmon, for the BBQ, while displaying our favorite weaponry. I can't think of a better way to spend my time!

Me and a few members are doing a bbq in October I believe, all members welcome let me know I'll give the address, think it's In a park.

I was wanting to do a charter in saltwater, depends on the amount of people but he around $100-$125 a person. One boat is in greenport li. The other Groton ct. They happen to be the same distance from me.

Looking for my card with the Ruger Stainless 200th year Blackhawk and real stag grips to side the 1892 Winchester my little brother (late) and I had built up in 1965 in 357 to go with it. (Rifleman, doncha know). Them as my BBQ guns. Kids love it when I drag them out of the truck at the deer camp. Cool thread idea.

The best salmon I ever had was on a charter boat 30 miles out from Westport Washington. I swear the 8lb king salmon was still flopping when they popped in the oven in the ship's galley. It was seasoned and had melted cheese on it. I know it sounds weird, but sooo good.
I caught a 27lb king that day. What a great day for a 13yo.

We used to go to a black powder trap/skeet shoot in Union Grove WI, the last weekend of July, a week after Salmon-a-rama in Racine. Salmon boil on Sat night was a highlight.

Wild-caught King Salmon has no equal.
Mind, it pairs well with Dungeness crab.

You got that right.

Little tidbit of info,
Look right above the Salmon's tail on the left at the small fin that is sticking out. It's not really a fin but the fact that this Salmon still has it means this is a wild Salmon.
The fishery's cut those off the the pen raised fingerlings so they can tell after they mature and get caught, whether it's pen raised or wild.
Notice the hen beside it has no little fin. It was pen raised.

Any type of wild game would be welcomed.
I do have a fondness of moose.

I also have to monitor this thread in case someone throws out a date and my home address.
Mrs farmer would confiscate my tablet if 50-60 THR members showed up in our driveway for a long weekend of camping, fish fry, BBQ, gun show, squirrel hunting, shooting tournament, and campfire drinking / storytelling.......

It might be nearly as bad as the Saturday morning that I sent the Amish carpenters up on my roof to measure for an estimate on new shingles. How was I supposed know she was relaxing in her big clawfoot tub in front of the big dormer window? 8am Saturday morning is a dumb time to take a bath anyway!

It’s been four years since I was in Bandera. On my 50th I drove back to the old family ranch road in Camp Verde, then around the bluff to Medina, through Bandera and down the hill to Hondo for a ribeye steak, baked potato and a Lone Star at Hermann Sons Steakhouse. Best. Birthday. Ever.

For Armored Farmers cookout I’ll bring a few sides of Loco Moco courtesy of LoonWulf’s local cafe in Hilo,

Stay safe!
That first item on the menu has my stomach growling. ;)

Not sure how big a crowd we're expecting, but I have enough of these for 100 or so people. View attachment 1020823 68 of them that day. Ran out of stringers and coolers so the rest were in the floor of the boat still.

We quit keeping them after the water temp hits about 70. They start tasting too much like fish after that.
I like the ones under 12" there so good fried hole, it's been far to long since I've had catfish. I caught a 24 pound channel 3 years ago got excited it wasn't far off the stage record. We got some nice bullheads here.

What we learned a long time ago is to get rid of any meat that isn't bright white. Anything yellowish or off white has to go. And early season/colder water has a cleaner taste. The flavor gets stronger in warmer water....not sure if it's diet or metabolism or what. Other than that, the big ones taste the same as the little ones. We usually cut them into strips to fit 2 pieces per bun. Never had catfish any way except fried.

14lb is the biggest channel I've ever caught. We get a few 10+, but anything 12# or more is a huge channel cat around here.
