Thoughts on carrying a fake wallet...

I do not carry a wallet in the normal position, that is where the HK is, so if I go for the wallet it will be the .45 that comes out and BTY I can put all 12 rounds in the area of a pie plate at 21' from the hip in less than 2 seconds.

i always thought the idea of a fake wallet was to have something to toss and then run like hell to get outta the situation?

thats what i use mine for, I'd rather run and try to get away than stand face to face with a guy that wanted to hurt me. if it comes down to it i can grab my concealed as running and fend him off with cover.

I have a 'fake' wallet. Its wrapped around a NAA Guardian. If someone demands my wallet, they're in for a surprise.

salty.

I have no use or time for a drop wallet. Rule number one is situational awareness. You need to be aware of your environment at all times. If a BG sees that you are always looking and on the alert, chances are he'll look for an easier victim. Even if you're targeted, SA should give you a a head start on taking on your attacker. Bottom line...no one should ever get close to without you being fully aware of it.

For what it's worth, I carry a gun in my pocket with a holster than makes it looks square. If asked to reach for my wallet, I will draw my pistol.

Another advantage is that when I find myself in a potentially threatening situation, I slip my hand in my pocket and am ready to draw without giving away too much.

Nothing against fake wallets, but, for me, it is better to practice one strategy.

I am not going to waste my time grabbing a fake wallet when I should be reaching for my weapon. If I am being robbed at gun point or with a knife I assume this person will kill me..... period.

I saw a youtube video that I can't find now that I'm trying to share it, but it went something like this. On the opposite of your CCW, put something in your front pocket that can be tossed in a BG's face.

The idea is to toss this expendable item(s) in the BG's face and retreat at a 45 degree angle back and to your strong side, side stepping away, while you draw and bead down on the BG.

You distract the BG long enough to retreat and make yourself a smaller target and draw.
