Too many guns

Yeah, I ask myself that all the time.
I had limited myself to a few calibers.
1 45colt lever action, 2 12 ga hd pumps, 2 223/556 bolt actions, 2 300blk bolt actions, 1300blk ar, 1 300blk sbr, 1 556 sbr, and several 9mm and 45acp handguns.
They all fit quite well in my safe.
Then I got seduced to the "dark side".
I got introduced to 308. Since then, I added 2 308 bolt actions and a 308 RFB.
I am weak, but well armed.....lol.
I guess I'm done, for now.

I guess I have too many guns when a new one won't fit into the safe.
Yeeeeeeah ... good luck with that.

Years ago I made the brilliant ( :scrutiny: ) decision that I could rein in my firearms purchasing by limiting the number of gunsafes I bought.

I was successful with the part involving the maximum number of gunsafes allowed.

The part involving the QTY of firearms I acquired, not so much ... o_O

Later, I decided that I really needed a couple of mobile longgun racks for when I needed to pull a lot of longguns out of one of the gunsafes. I crafted 2 folding&rolling racks that will hold up to 22 longguns, each.

One of the racks has become permanent storage for some excess, no-room-in-the-gunsafes longguns. If it weren't for a batch of like longuns that I have stored elsewhere in the house, both racks would be in permanent mode. <sigh>

You are on your way ... :)

BTW, I am not complaining ... I think that it is a won-der-ful affliction from which to "suffer". :D

One could get along very well with three handguns, three shotguns and three rifles. Any more than that is needlessly excessive.

So you say.

Likewise someone could get along with just ONE handgun, ONE shotgun, and ONE rifle.

But where would the fun be in that?

I'm thinking final goal three gun armory. Winchester Featherweight .308 from early 50s, Glock 26 or 15 round magazine verion and 12ga Beretta Essential with 3" chambers and choke tubes.

I'm thinking final goal three gun armory.

So I'm curious; you went from THREE of each (rifle, handgun, and shotgun), to now ONE of each. If you had to take it down to the bare minimum: which ONE do you pick for the ultimate minimalist ONE gun armory? Is it one of your final three or something entirely different?

By the media's recent definition, I was, and still am, a double super ultra mega power owner.

For me it was not and is not the quantity, it was where I placed the possession of those guns in the hierarchy of life priorities. I started by taking a stack to my LGS and sold off a few here and there until the "immersion therapy" of selling that which I "loved" had scrubbed the insanity of having for the sake of having.

I have just as many now, but have moved on from compulsive ownership.

One gun is tough. It would be either Central European 12-12, 20-20/7x57, 7x65 or one of our medium bore rifle cartridges or short-barreled M1A like Beretta Tanker or Springfield Armory. The three barrel gun would be better survival gun to shoot both small game, birds and large game while semi-auto .308 with twenty round magazines would be better defensive weapon that could also be used for medium or large game, however squirrels are more plentiful than deer or hogs. I suppose I like to eat good so in the end one gun for me would be something like Merkel 95K, Blaser, Fanzoj,......

Good answer! I can readily appreciate the versatility and overall utility of an O/U shotgun/rifle or a three barrel drilling.

Will let you know by early November. Driving then to the largest gun show in the US-Wanenmacher's. First and last visit (hotel room, food, gas, 'new' rifle).

The visit has been my gun dream for years. The Germantown TN show this weekend will offer only a very tiny sample, but might see something unfamiliar, to help the decision-making next month in Tulsa.

The question I think very much depends on the purpose for those guns. Some people like target practice, others, like me, like to hunt, still others may be actively preparing for a life 'off the grid', planning for extreme scenarios of survival. For that last case, I think a handgun, a 22 rifle, a shotgun and a backup for each could be assumed that a person is well-stocked. For those in rural regions, a long-range rifle might be a part of that collection. To them, this provides the essential level of protection needed and nothing will get left behind when it’s time to bug out. Of course, if you’ve got a big family, that number could rise substantially, with a gun or two(or even three) per person easily justified.

I choose to buy another gun. I never had a lever gun until a couple of weeks ago. Bought a really nice pre Remington Marlin for $300.
Now I want a couple more lever guns. Maybe a Savage 99 or a Browning BLR. It is a contagious hobby , there is not cure and I am glad for that.

Given that most of our legal immigrants come from developing countries where gun ownership does not exist or is not valued I'm not sure what our gun ownership in future holds. Given I'm constantly shrinking what I have you can figure where my bet lies.

It is our job to teach them.

I started out with a goal of twenty semi autos and revolvers seven years ago,I am more than twenty semi autos and revolvers north of that number today.I don't think I have a number now,if I see one I like, more than likely it will be in my collection one day.:):D:cool:

I'm still looking for a few more milsurps to round out that collection. I'd like to get a pre-64 Win94 that doesn't have family ties - I get nervous taking my great uncle's out to the range. I don't think I have all that many, until I mention that I'm up to 65 firearms and silencers and people give me that amazed look.
