WARNING! Defective Winchester Ammo!

Isn't Winchester going to be moving (or maybe they already did?) from Alton, IL to Mississippi?
Maybe has something to do with their current lack of QC...........

I contacted their product service rep, Sheryl Forbeck, who infomed me that they could not give me a FULL refund OR a cupon for a whole new box because I had already shot some of the ammo. When I reminded her of how dangerous ammo like this is, she did not express any concern regarding my safety. I told her I might have to warn other shooters on the internet then, she relied, "You do what you have to do."

You had 7 defective rounds and so you should have gotten a coupon for 7 rounds. You were not injured and the notion of paying you off for something that didn't happen to you is pretty silly.

Threatening to tattle to the internet is really pretty meaningless when the company is big and is selling everything they make with no known future stoppages (play on words, intended).

Personally, I have never had good luck with Winchester ammo and avoid it as a general rule. Contrary to the claims of die hard shooters of 6-8 years ago, Blazer really does seem to be better range ammo.

Well, i've been kicking around the idea of getting my local gun shop to stock 9mm blazer regularly, but felt like it was not worth asking because, well, wally world always has some wwb.. guess that it's worth it now to talk to'em..

I had a couple defective rounds in a box of Hornady factory loads and called them. They sent me 2 new boxes right away and told me to keep and shoot it or discard the original stuff. Nice folks but I think they don't get many QC calls.

Manco, I do the same thing. I either inspect every round when I get them or when I put them in time magazines. It doesn;t take long and it is well worth it.

Sure that is an arguable point, however I feel it is the company's responsibilty to make ther customers happy, which they didn't, so I chose to post their crappy ass work all over the internet. From their attitude, I believe if my gun blew up in my face, they would deny all responsibility and say tough luck. That's why I chose to warn other people about their lousy craftsmanship and poor customer service. I wasn't trying to get "paid off", all I wanted was for them to replace my 2 half empty boxes with a fresh batch or give me a full refund which I think is fair. And by the way, "tattling to the internet" is about the only thing a consumer can do to a big company, but don't think it's pointless. Just google "defective wincester ammo" and see what pops up.

Last week I found a round of WWB that look like someone literally chewed the bullet off the casing. The thing was there was no brass to go with the bullet so somewhere there's someone who has a case without a bullet.

As for posting this on the internet, I'm glad someone did as I initially thought this was some freak accident but obviously it is happening a lot. At least I'll know to avoid WWB

I've shot well over 12,000 rounds of WWB over the least couple of years. Out of all of these, I can think of only three rounds that were slightly bent. The rest of them worked just fine.

This isn't anything new. I have a similar round from them sitting next to my computer here for over 2 years. That was the last box I ever bought. It's junk.

If it's as dangerous as you claim, why would you consider buying their product ever again? I sure wouldn't.

That is the reason I buy Russian steel cased ammo for practice. Never had any problems in thousands of rounds in several calibers. See my post about it.

I had one 9mm round of CCI Blazer Brass that was defective. The bullet was malformed and all the powder was in the well of the plastic holder. I called CCI and spoke with a very nice lady named Linda. She understood the situation. She asked me for the lot number off the box and for pictures of the defective round. I provided the requested information and she sent me a new box of 50.

Winchester Ammo

I recently had a prob with Win. ammo in .45 Colt. The lead in the remaining bullets in the cylinder of my revolver would slide forward .050-.120 after firing the gun. I contacted Sheryl in customer service and they sent me a paid UPS sticker to return the unfired ammo and $30 in coupons. Probably a crimping issue. Very nice people to deal with. I did ask for feedback after their inspection but haven't heard anything yet.

I have not bought Winchester ammo in quite some time. I cannot recall a problem (with the exception of some of their .22lr ammo).
They should have caught this problem.

Winchester Customer Service may be able to ignore individual complaints, but they won't be able to ignore sales loss due to righteous internet reporting.

More importantly, I don't think they would ignore the worlds largest retailer. I suspect Wichester's sales account with Wal-Mart is HUGE.

Complain loudly to Wal-Mart.

"Please inspect EVERY round of your winchester ammo as somebody is obviously sleeeping at quality control."

FYI : They've been asleep for some time...I think they moved the production guys from .22LR into other areas. Kinda like shuffling around bad people in other large corps we've seen lately.

They cant "make" you happy. You have to decide if youre going to be happy.

.... so I chose to post their crappy ass work all over the internet.

So if they did make you happy... you wouldnt have posted any thing about their quality? Thats the type of statement that makes it seem like you were wanting them to pay you off.

From their attitude, I believe if my gun blew up in my face, they would deny all responsibility and say tough luck.

So if they gave you a $40 coupon you would suddenly have faith in them?

That's why I chose to warn other people about their lousy craftsmanship and poor customer service.

.... because they didnt give you a $40 coupon......?

I wasn't trying to get "paid off", all I wanted was for them to replace my 2 half empty boxes with a fresh batch or give me a full refund which I think is fair.

But you already stated that if they gave you 2 free boxes you wouldnt have posted negatively about their quality. Hmmm...... :scrutiny:

And by the way, "tattling to the internet" is about the only thing a consumer can do to a big company,.....

Well thats just not true at all. The truth is... "tattling to the internet" is just about the easiest thing to do.

I'm really not trying to bust your chops but you're not painting the best picture.

Your posts seem to be more about your displeasure of their lack of couponing than your displeasure of their quality.

Anyways... thanks for the heads up. Good pictures of what you found.

Thanks for the criticism of my post danez71. Do you work for winchester by chance? ;) jk
but seriously though, let's say it wasn't ammo and something else...

Say you went to subway and bought 2 sandwiches and found some rotten moldy tomato slices in one of them after you and your wife started chowing down. You take it to the store and they only offer you a free six inch sub instead of your money back since you already ate some of them. I personally would post my bad experience with them on the internet. You might just go on your way.

I guess I am really just disgusted with the product and frustrated I didn't get the customer service I expected of them.

wow, i have a ton of winchester 9mm, i even bought it because i figured i'd get a good brand to keep my gun from being damaged by faulty firing. i agree with some of the posters above, it's sad to see where this company has gone.

I told her I might have to warn other shooters on the internet then, she relied, "You do what you have to do."

Im pretty sure CS of every company in the world gets this. If I was CS I would have a hard time not laughing if someone said this to me.

The truth is a company will more than likely get negative press even if they try to make it right. They are unintimidated by these threats because of this.

Now thats a fair statement.

It really is amazing that those got through what ever QC they have. Those arent minor defects IMO.

Well, it is good to hear that you didnt get hurt via firing this ammo thru your handgun.

I shoot quite a bit of Winchester's "white box" 7.62x51mm Q3130. Never found any problem rounds so far, but always check each one prior to filling up an M14 mag with them just to be safe.

Anyone out there find any "bad" Q3130 yet?
