I carry a Taurus mod 85 ultra lite.
I ordered a LCP or I'm on the waiting list like many others.
I was thinking of buying one more carry gun because these two are minimum for SD.
I was thinking a small 9 but most are unreliable,KAHR,Kel Tec ect.
I really wanted a XD-9 but it may be too wide and what if it jams do to lack of lube or lint build up.
Now I'm kicking the idea around about getting another revolver a SP101 in 357.I know I will have plenty of knock down power(energy) with the 357 it is almost 3 times as powerfull as the 38 spl.
I just don't know how accurate it will be w/ a 2 1/4 barrel.

Is the SP101 much bigger than my Taurus mod 85

I have a p95 that shoots really good but to big to carry and 2 FTE.
I have a GP100 in 357 and love it only problem is the 6 inch barrel.

I just wany to here from you guy's that have tried and what you ended up with in the end.
I put the age in so I could see what age group carry's what typ of gun more.

I am 56 and carry Glocks, G23 and G27 in 40 S&W. The Glocks are ugly, utility guns but work and are accurate.
The XD's just do not fit me or feel good to me, as to a SP in 357 with 2 1/4 inch barrel it is a close in defense handgun but reliable and does have some power, only 5 shots.
I have tried 380, 9mm, 38 spl, 357 mag and the 40 cal fits me just right. You just have to have a reliable, accurate handgun that fits you and you can operate easily. If you carry the belt, holster gun set-up must be comfortable or it may tend to make you not carry as often.
Just my opinions.

Carry Sp-101 w/3 inch tube.

I am just more proficient with it than my other carry pieces.

I'm 52 and carry a Kimber Compact CDP. I like .45 and have XD's but so far have not carried them. The CDP to me is perfect as it's thin and light and has the firepower I want in my carry gun.

I would not have a problem carrying a revolver like my 640 but for me it's second best to the CDP.

I'd be lying if I said I carried an Auto for any other reason than these two:

1. Capacity - More Ammo in the clip
2. Coolness - I know, lame but they are really NEAT.

Ruger or Ruger

I'm 68 and I carry a Ruger .357 magnum.
It's either an SP101, 2.25" or a GP100, 3", either in a Galco High-ride open-top pancake holster, OWB.

Shooting DA, I can keep all my rounds inside the 8-ring on the silhouette
targets. or in the black on the head. from 3 yrds., 5 yrds., 7 yrds., and
10 yrds.
The trick is to start close. Get it Right from there. Move back to the next
level. Work at that 'til you get it right.

My DSW carries a Kel-tec PF9 in a pocket holster. She can keep them all in the 7-ring at the same distances.
9mm's are a lot cheaper, tho.

We each carry what we like. I have a couple 1911's too.
I like the power of a .357 magnum. If you hit your spot,
5 shots oughta be enough.

Age 50-55.
Last year carried a 9mm compact polymer pistol.
Currently carry a x42.

Love to shoot both, but when it comes to carrying...
1. The pocket gun is MUCH less hassle for me to carry. Just drop in my pocket... as opposed to strapping a holster on my belt and plotting how to avoid exposure via a wardrobe malfuntion.
2. Last trip to the range, the polymer pistol had a FTE and the lady shooting it, looked at it like "you know I don't change flat tires or fix guns". I've got a wife and daughter that want handguns and they will not be autoloaders unless they begin shooting a lot more and can deal with the full manual of arms.

Olde and semi-auto.

I like revolvers just fine and prefer them for some things but I'm a little too used to a 1911 derivitive trigger. Trying to gain proficiency in a DAO defensive revolver is good fun and no doubt worthwhile but the results have not been such that the mutant 1911 is likely to be replaced any time soon.

I'm 27 and I carry a Taurus 650 in 357.. Its alot more comfortable to wear on an inside the waste holster then any of my smaller semi-autos, it won't jam up in a jam and its got the mother of knockdown HP's in her.

Its comfortable with my big hands too. All in all if I can't hit a target with 5 well controlled/placed rounds then I'd be pretty much worthless anyhow.

At 55, I carry either a Glock 36 or a Briley Commander length .45 ACP because I shoot them better than a revolver. Occasionally I do carry a Taurus 85 but I like .45 better as a carry caliber. Being flatter than the revolver, they conceal easier for me.

24 and I carry a Kahr CW40, and a KT P3AT. Chose them because of size, comfort, concealability, and ease of carrying extra magazines.

I'm 44 and though I wanted a 9mm semi-auto I'm getting a Taurus 85 because I couldn't find one that fit my other parameters for size and price.

I'm 38 and have been licensed for CCW since about 1992. I have carried autoloaders for most of that time but recently I have gone back to my original choice, an SP101 as my primary carry gun. This time around though I went with the 3" model because I shoot it better than I do my 2 1/4" model.

If I do go with a 2" gun, I prefer my S&W 638 because I shoot it just as well as the 2" Ruger and the S&W is lighter and easier to conceal.

I like my autoloaders and still carry one on occassion, but I just find myself trusting my revolvers reliability a little more. Being limited in capacity is a concern with 5 shot guns, but I don't live a very high risk lifestyle so I am not too concerned about it. Besides that, an Sp 101 on my belt and a 638 in my pocket make for a pretty formidable combo if I feel the need for a little back-up ;)

I carry a CZ75B or ,occasionally, a CZ 2075 RAMI.

I'm 42 and I've only ever owned one revovler (Uberti 1873 SA Colt's wannabe) got rid of it many many moons ago. We also have a .22 NEF revolver somewhere in the back of the safe.

If CZ made a revolver I'd consider it, maybe

You didn't have a selection for both so I didn't vote. For me it depends on my mood. Most times an auto, other times a revolver, and at other times both. For the record, I'm 53 years young.

im 28 and carry either my 5in pt1911 iwb or s&w sigma 9 iwb both are great guns that fit me perfect i tend to want to carry an extra clip with the 1911 though.

i choose auto simply for the round capacity with lots of pratice

Really depends on when and where. In the summer more often than not I carry a S&W hammerless scadium framed 5 shot revolver in a pants pocket holster. It is light enough to carry without pulling my pants down. In colder weather either a Kimber Ultra Carry , or my new Para Ordanance PDA 45.
