What if...Your state repealed CCW tommorrow?

Few years ago I was in court for a traffic violation that I was pleading guilty to so was just there to try to get a bit lesser fine (I did).

Anyway the case before me was a guy that got busted for carrying concealed without a permit. He got a $300 fine and the judge stated he would get his firearm back once the fine was paid.

So, the question is if my state repealed CCW would I still carry? For only a $300 fine (misdemeanor), I get my gun back, and probably a slim chance of actually getting caught? Yea I'll carry.

Out of spite though I'd probably just start carrying open just to rub it in.

Easy question.... If it was no longer legal to carry concealed I would carry openly. I wouldn't break the law and lower myself to BG status. Anyway, if CCW was outlawed I’m sure when I changed over to open carry I would be in the majority, not minority. (It would make carrying a lot easier, that’s for sure!! LOL)

I think I'd find another legal valid way to protect myself and family then get proficient in using it/doing it.

It's easy to say that you'd continue carrying, but when states make it a Class III felony, you'd have to really consider what you were doing. Remember, if you're convicted, there's no more right to even own a firearm. And if you're caught in the possession of one (shooting), you could face another conviction and jail time.

In Maryland, one of the worst states, carrying one handgun can mean jail and having all your other guns confiscated. The jackbooted bastards can literally empty your safe. Police powers in Maryland are outrageous.

With this situation, what would you really do?

Exactly. There are a lot of people who say that they will carry regardless of the law. I would ask them to come to Illinois and carry. Its a felony here and you will get into deep doo-doo for carrying.

Or go to New York City and carry without a permit. See what happens? IT is the same as in the original posters situation.

I would switch to open carry. Then again, Arizona law reads that a gun is NOT concealed..."If ANY part of the gun or holster is visible".

Now, with that being said, it isn't enforced that way...I would adjust my method of carry to let some part of the holster be visible, and if in the presence of LE, I would simply UNcover the parts that weren't already visible.

But I don't see it happening.

Another thing to consider is this. You step out one day packing heat and you have a stroke, a heart attack, or get hit by a car and guess what they'll find? Just keeping your nose clean doesn't always mean you won't be found out. I heard a cop say one time that he just bumped into people if he saw a bulge. "I can make a gun like that!," he said, snapping his fingers. 'Course now there are cell phones, but you don't want to get caught where carrying is a felony.

Use thunderwear and sue him for sexual harassment.

My carry permit is good for another 3 years so I would punt until then. I would work to lobby to get it re-enacted.

I would think about the fact that all the names and
addresses of the people who carry are at the disposal
of those who would take your guns.

A friend of mine said "Screw'm, they violated my civil rights and I'll darn well carry when and where I want."

I would vote with my feet and find another job 'n place to live where basic human rights are respected.

I'd probably leave because things like repeal of CCW don't happen in a vacuum. In all likelihood there would be a bunch of other things the state would be doing that I couldn't stand.

As long as unlicensed carry isn't a felony I'd probably still carry for the few months I was still here.

It's hard to say. Open carry is "illegal" (I still don't think the state Constitution allows that law) here. I think the most obvious options would be move (preferable, if possible - much less jail time), ignore it and carry concealed anyway (might not ever get caught, but bad if you did), or become a test case for the unconstitutionality of the open carry prohibition (jail time is certain).

Part of me wants to say "stay and fight it," but who knows what I'd actually do? There may be other options I haven't thought of, yet.

I dont think it would be quite Custers last stand. Remember the gun confiscation videos from hurricane Katrina? No great stands or firefights there. Nobody yelling Molon Labe and dying for their rights. Just a bunch of people pissed off that the government confiscated their firearms.
