What is Your Favorite Colt (and why?)

Only one Colt revo, an older Dick Special with the naked ejector rod; always a fan of Highway Patrol, and Broad Crawford had one. Actually had a toy one back then, for the same reason.
Moon

Nothing changes, our toys just get more expensive. ;)

Broderick also drove around in his fifties Buick (don't remember if it was a Special, Century or Super iteration) with Highway Patrol markings (as I recollect, there might have been some Mercurys of the era thrown in the mix). Even as a kid, I always wondered how many state Highway Patrol divisions ever provided their troopers with Buicks. o_O

I have a 22LR Colt Official Police that I absolutely treasure- when I bought it, the filled-out warranty card was in the bottom of the box. Turns out it was purchased from the Cannon Corner in El Cerrito, CA which is a place I remember from my early days.

My favorite Colt is the new 3" King Cobra that I just ordered.

Why? It's the only Colt I own. Technically own, that is -- they have my money already. Can't wait for it to come in. 5-10 business days, they said.

I always wanted one of the originals back in the 90's, but never ponied up to buy one.

FYI, picked up the revolver last night. Really happy with it. Once the weather clears up I'll get it to the range.

Basic Colt Series 70 1911 as I carried one on my hip during the last three years of the Vietnam Era - a nostalgia thing for this old warrior. I also want a 6” blued Python in pristine condition as I owned several in yesteryear - just a neat handgun.

Let's see:

I have an original M1849
A .22 Officers Model Target
A Woodsman made in 1938
A M1927 Argentine (made on Colt machinery under Colt supervision.) It currently mounts a Colt .22 Conversion Kit
A Detective Special
An M357 which I carried in Viet Nam
A Second Model SAA in .357
A New Service in .45 Colt

I guess it would be a toss up between my Woodsman and my New Service

I only own 1 Colt and it was given to me. It is in rough shape with rust spots and worn finish but it has an amazing trigger and is very accurate. I don't care what it looks like, it is my favorite revolver to shoot even more than my pre M10 M&P from 1948.

I have been thinking about sending back to Colt for a facelift but never get around to it. It would be nice if they look it over and give it that Colt deep blue finish they did so well. (if they still do it that way)

I only own three Colt handguns,,,
A Trooper Mk-III in .357 Mag,,,
The same gun in .22 LR,,,
And this Frontier Scout.

lucille-lr.jpg

The Frontier Scout is named Lucille,,,
This was my Mother's gun,,,
It lived atop the fridge.

I grew up shooting this gun,,,
"Get your chores done without me having to hound you,,,
And you can shoot Lucille a bit after dinner."

I can't tell you how many bricks of .22 short she's fired,,,
Both of my younger brothers learned to shoot with her as well.

Mom always promised that the gun would be mine when I grew up,,,
Finally at the age of 31 (1982) she let me "buy" it for $100.00.

Three months later it was stolen from my house.

Fast forward to 1998 after my Mother passed away,,,
My BIL and Sister were the executors of m,y mom's estate.

One afternoon I was talking to them about going through Moms house,,,
Before it was scheduled to be demolished by the city,,,
He said, "Look what I did find there."

It was Lucille.

I did a little bit of detective work,,,
I finally brow-beat my youngest brother into admitting,,,
He broke into my house (at my Mother's request) and stole it back for her.

I won't go into all the drama that it took,,,
For me to get Lucille back in my possession,,,
But she's now safely housed in my gun cabinet and gets shot quite a bit.

Back in the late 60's Dad had a friend who was a crack shot,,,
He used to borrow Lucille to shoot in local "Ham Shoot" matches.

We always had some pig in the freezer because of him,,,
He said Lucille was the most precise shooting revolver he had ever used.

Anyways, Lucille is and will always be My Favorite Colt.

P1050629.JPG P1050630.JPG My favorite Colt is the 1953 Colt .357 (model) . It has a 7.5 pound DA trigger and a 2.3 pound single action Icicle ! Everything about the gun is tight and perfectly machined with a beautiful pre Royal Blue Colt polish. Timing has been perfect in the 35 years I've owned it. It has seen many Pythons come and be sold off in that time period. Indeed it is my "go to" .357 fighting revolver. I have NOT been in many fights with it tho :) probably shot less than 1K loads , few of those magnums. The Fuzzy Farrant Rosewood Combat grips were taken off a Python I sold 20 years ago and the original grips were the same as the Python should have had when it was sold in 1966 . The grips fit me perfectly. This one is going to the son who will cherish it, and I know which one !

Thats like asking me to pick my favorite Ford...

Yup.

No pics of it, but my 2 1/2" Python was the favorite one I owned. I'd have to say the Trooper MKIII I 'owned' (Dad gave me, then took back when my "fireball" 125 gr. HP's broke his Python's hammer) would be a close second, then the Cobra I bought form the gun shop I worked at, and the one that started my love of Colt revolvers: the Frontier Scout my Dad let me roam the woods with up at the cabin; I loved that gun as much as arrondhgraham loves his Lucille. Of course, my Dad being my Dad, he traded it off long before I would have had a chance to own it.

Some of the older Colts you guys have shown are on my grail list, and as my income has almost doubled, I have started working on the list. Picking up a Browning Superposed O/U combo at the Trap club today. :)
