What is your favorite carry gun? Why do you like to carry it? My personal favorite is the Smith and wesson 642, because of it's size, and reliability. What's your's?

2.75" Speed Six. Right size, right weight, fits the hand great, solid as a rock, plenty of holsters, powerful cartridge, cheap practice ammo, my wife doesn't mind shooting it so I can buy another under the auspices of her having one too. :D

Glock 26...Reliable - Gold Dot 124gr+p short barrel ammo - 11 round capacity - accurate - small and lightweight - very easy to CC...easy to clean - G19 and G17 mags will fit - great customer support - cheap practice ammo.

Currently it's my Glock 23. I also have a 642 and PM9, but I usually strap on the Glock when I step out. I have total confidence in my ability to shoot the 23 (it was my first gun), but I'm looking at checking out a Glock 26/36. The PM9 is great for when I throw on a pair of shorts to run to the grocery, but I just don't feel AS comfortable when I carry the Glock. The 642 is a real sweet shooter, but lately it has been collecting dust :( My roommate is looking for a new carry piece, so it'll be around if I decide to unload it.

I'm with Texas. I carry a S&W 649 (the 642's big brother - stainless and .357!). Very accurate for it's size and well built. A little heavy but it's worth it when packing magnums.

In a revolver it's not even a contest: Colt Detective Special. I like my GP-100 too but the DS gets carried, the Ruger does not.

Sub-thread: Winter or summer?

Anywhere the weather dictates your garment choices, this is a factor. Currently:

Summer: Used to be S&W 340PD (pocket carry), rapidly being supplanted by Kahr PM9 (also pocket).
Winter (such as it is in TX): G-23 IWB currently, but my recently-acquired Kimber Ultra CDP IWB will give it a run for its money :)

Looking at the Kahr P-45--may do it all for CCW--6+1 of 45 ACP, 18.5 oz...jury is out.

642

A Colt CCO used to be my favorite CCW, but the 642 is just so light and easy to drop in my pocket, I carry it much more. Plus I just feel a lot better about it's reliability over any semi auto.

Kel Tec P11, 11 shot (13 with the 12 round mags) 3.5" at 25 yards accurate, 100% reliable 9mm +P all in a package no bigger than the smallest J frames. It's putting a 115 grain JHP out the barrel at 1260 fps for 410 ft lbs, beats my Taurus M85UL .38 all to heck and back. I do carry the Taurus on occasions like tomorrow. I'll be out in a boat on the bay and I prefer stainless and don't feel I need the firepower.

Usually a blue Speed-Six .357-2-3/4", and more recently a Sigma SWVE 40 because it shoots great for me and rides as comfy as anything in a Bianchi Accumold holster while around camp or riding motorcycles in the mountains and fishing the streams all day. Small enough to disappear under the tail of a shirt or slip the whole contraption in the back pocket and don't worry about losing it inadvertantly because it's so inexpensive.

Smith & Wesson 640 no dash. It is easy to conceal, light enough to carry around all day either in a pocket or in a holster but heavy enough to handle the +P 135 grain Gold Dots without beating the heck out of my hand and wrist.

Ruger P97. Powerful, fairly lightweight, accurate and it works everytime. For the occasions when you really want or have to hide one my Taurus 85 gets the nod.

PT 145Mill Pro

This pistol almost always finds itself in my carry situation. It is very portable, concealable, reliable, of dependable caliber, and is stoked with 10+1 rounds. Just to be as close to 100% sure as practicable, I often also take along my S&W 342PD (10 ounces empty).

I'm yet to gain confidence about my brand new XD 45 Tactical.

I've been carrying a East German Makarov 8+1 rnds with a stouter recoil spring and the right ammo the ballistics are parr with the .38 spl. snubby, the accuracy is quite good.

This is a tough question for me.
When I carry a revolver it's usually a Smith & Wesson Model 15, .38 spl, 4" Heavy Barrel. I really like the overall feel and balance of this gun, and It's a real pleasure to shoot.
I also sometimes carry a 4" blue L-frame Smith in .357 mag, or a snub Model 37 Airweight.
Around the house, walking the dog or just for fun, I sometimes carry a Single Action revolver, either in .357 mag or .44 mag, depending.

My traveling gun is an older S&W 5904 9mm.

You had to ask.

S&W J-frame Airweight .38 special w/ enclosed hammer (or bobbed).

Its light, compact, powerful (relative to weight), and VERY reliable.

"5 for sure"

S&W 432PD Lightweight, easy to carry/conceal, reliable, no external hammer to snag on clothing, comfortable grip, chambered in an acceptable self-defense cartridge (.32H&R Magnum), 6 shot capacity (versus typical 5 shot J-frames), little recoil/muzzle-flip, can rush/rapid shoot it accurately.

Walther P99 compact A/S - had a Glock 26 for 8 years - never shot it that great due to the trigger.

Found out the Walther also had a tennifer finish, and I liked the fullsize version.

Got the compact, and I love it. Very accurate, and I like the mag release. Also shares the fullsize mags if I wish.

My S&W 942. It just slips in my pocket or IWB. I would rather carry my 3" S&W 13 or my custom 4" pencil barrel S&W 65.

In a combat situation I would carry my 1911A1, but for EDC it is my custom 942
