Because of the old style hammer. Not a bar type transfer. It is out of the first run of the 686's. Got it from a very close friend of the family, retired county deputy sherrif. (NOTE:  The price = free, couldn't beat it.) It was one of his service revolvers. I kept it completly original down to the original large lawman style checkered grips. It has a light trigger, very accurate. I do not allow any one use this unit beacuse of the trigger. It is not like a 'Hair Trigger', just a little lighter than the norm. One of my favorite wheel guns, special only to me I quess. :D

What? No .44 Special lovers? How bout an 80's vintage CA Bulldog-- 19 0z. unloaded, steel frame, and well, it's a .44!

Not intending to hijack this thread but I haven't seen a Bulldog for sale in my usual haunts in years and just yesterday I saw a really nice specimen for sale.
I've never owned one or even shot one, but I was tempted to buy it--it is kind of cool in a retro sort of way.

I've got a mid 70's charter arms bulldog
that i picked up for $150.00 bucks.Great
shooter with 240gr LSWC's but it can be
a handfull.I don't carry it yet but i do use
it as a apt gun loaded with gold dots.

My Glock 29 10mm. I love being able to have 10+1 rounds of powerful 10mm in a small subcompact size. The only downside is that the double stack magazine can make the Glock print through clothing from time to time. When this becomes an issue I turn to my Sig P239 that allows me to comfortable carry 7+1 rounds of .40S&W.

I don't carry outside the house much (living in a non-CCW state) but when I get out of state where I can carry I prefer my Taurus 85CH in revolvers and Taurus PT140 Milennium Pro in autos. The 85CH is steel and thus easier to control the follow up shots than my 442 but still small and light for carry and it is the bobbed hammer version. The PT140 M. Pro is a great size and weight for carry- almost small enough for pocket carry. Both are 100% reliable.

Now those are based on what I carry most. Theoretically I like a 3" K-frame best in revolvers for belt/IWB carry (small enough, yet one more round and able to handle whatever you stuff into them). However, my S&W 65LS is my first .357mag so I don't want to mess with it and make the changes I want in a carry gun and I haven't yet added another 3" K-frame to make the changes so I've never actually carried it except in the house.

Since I wear shorts/T-shirt almost 100% of the time here in Florida, I carry my Kel-Tec P32 most of the time. I slip it in my pocket in my Uncle Mike's #1 pocket holster with an extra magazine. Silvertip in the chamber, 1 silvertip on top of the magazine followed by 6 solid points. Same in the extra magazine. 15 rounds in a package so light and small that I usually forget it is even in my pocket. My P32 has been 100% reliable.

Well, my 442 just became relegated from my most often carried to a BUG.

Gonna have to go with the Glock 29 I just bought, after practicing a few more drills with it (unloaded of course). I've shot one a bunch, 11-rounds of 10mm seems too tempting to not try carrying. :p

With more clothing in fall/winter I'll probably try the new XD-45 I also just got, in a Galco Fletch holster.

Oooooo..... [] the G29 and the XD-45 together!!!!! [/:idea:] :D

My Favorite Carry Gun

I carry a S&W 625-9 45 Colt 4" barrel, I like that it has enough athority to do the job, it is light enough to carry all the time, and is a very accurate weapon to shoot, I can carry it kidney with forward slant or shoulder holster Vertical style no matter, I keep two speed loaders in a pouch on my belt ready if needed.

Glock 19

Current favorite is a slightly modified Glock 19. Trijicon sights. Extended mag release. Hogue grip sleeve. Spare magazine on opposite hip. 30 rounds of Corbon +P JHPs. It's disappears when carried in an IWB under a t-shirt.

I have always carried a SW 642 with Crimson Trace grips. It is easy to carry and very accurate, even in bright sun to about 10 yards. However, I just bought a SW M&P in 9mm and I think it might replace the 642. The M&P is one of the best semi-autos I have seen in awhile. The trigger is smooth and crisp, the grip angle is perfect, and carrying 18 rounds feels kind of nice!

I started with a S&W model 60 and loved it, but found it was a little too heavy and the hammer had a tendency to snag on certain holsters when being drawn. I still carry it when hunting because weight isn’t such an issue there.

Then I found a Kahr P9. A lot of things to like about that one – light, easy to shoot, accurate, good capacity. It is also thin, so it rides very comfortably. Unfortunately, it has very square edges, so it prints like crazy.

Then I found a S&W 342PD. 10.8oz empty, shrouded hammer, short grip, amazingly accurate for a snubby, well-rounded edges. This instantly became my favorite and I haven’t even considered carrying anything else. If I could change anything on it, I would lighten the trigger and move it further forward on the gun. I have long fingers and the trigger, when all the way back, is almost nestling in the second joint of my finger. I use the Speet 135gr Gold Dots, which have some serious heat compared to the other +P loads I have tried.

It depends

When I carry IWB it's my Glock 30 plus an extra mag. Most of the time (due to work) I carry a Kel-Tek P-11 with a 12 rd mag in the pistol in a pocket holster in the front right pocket of my Docker style pants, and an extra 10 rder in the left pocket. I sometimes carry my Kel-Tek P3AT with +1 ext. in a pocket holster in jeans or tight pockets with an extra mag.

This is a hard one for me. Used to be my favorite carry piece was easy it was either a S&W M64 or M10 with a 4" bbl or M60 2"bb, those were the only pistols I had other than a Blackhawk with a 6 1/2bbl, that was to big to conceal. this past winter though I bought a Glock 19 from a friend and I find myself carrying it more and more. I guess I have to say my favorite is a S&W M10 with a two inch barrel, but the one I carry is a Glock 19.

I hope all my rambling makes since. It has been a long day.:)

You probably should have asked this question in the general handgun section.

I like revolvers a lot, but I stopped carrying them concealed back in the early 1980s. On occasion, I will carry a small J-Frame Smith& Wesson if I don't have any of my autopistols available. Just a few months ago, I had to fly someplace and didn't want the hassle of taking the handgun, so when I arrived I borrowed a Chief's Special .38 and carried that. It used to be mine, but I sold it to the person I was visiting years ago. Anyway, it carried great in an outside the belt high ride holster right about at 4:30. That said, I have carried autopistols since the late 1980s almost exclusively. Specifically, I carry a 1911 .45. Reason being that it is very flat, and therefore comfortable to carry IWB, and I don't have to choose a small gun, like I do with a revolver, because though easy to carry (due to being flat), 1911 is also a big gun which shoots a big round. It conceals real well, as well, I'd say, as a Chief's Special .38. I can also shoot it better, and it is just as reliable, i.e., 100%. I shoot a medium frame revolver about as well, but then they don't pack nearly as easily and don't conceal nearly as well. Anyway, that's what I carry and why.

S&W

I carry a S&W 637-2 in a Mika pocket holster. +p power in an airweight package. Pants, jeans, shorts or whatever. Although as seen in another thread, I want to bob the hammer to reduce the chance of any snags.:)
