What would he carry?

Working on a few assumptions, such as the story is taking place in contemporary times, etc, I'd say that he should have a couple of different guns, as one of the silliest things about the original Bond was how he was always using the PPK for stuff that other guns would have been much better suited.

Deep cover gun for Evening Dress: Seecamp or Rohrbaugh.
General walking around gun (basically ccw): Colt Python or Browning Hi-Power.
Assassination gun: Suppressed .22, maybe High Standard, or Colt Woodsman. or maybe some sort of euro target toy.
Fighting Gun: When it's time to pull on the black commando sweater, have him reach for an HK Mk 23 SOCOM

The ASP is also a nifty idea, but John Gardner beat us to it.

CZ52 for his "big gun." They're chambered for the 7.62 x 25 mm Tokarev and have 9 x 19 mm barrels available. It can be suppressed, too.

Nickel-plated Beretta 950B in 6.35mm with a suppressor for up-close "wet work" or to avoid upsetting the "jet set."

CZ83 in .380 with a suppressor as his carry gun.

Gun type

How 'bout a Walther P99. Not too exotic, but still cool. Or better yet, Have him driving a Dodge Neon and toteing a hi-point .380 comp? Huh, Huh, I see the gears turning. Good huh? You can use it if you want to.:D

It would depend on what agency the "Bond" type is working for.

Most probably a SIG 228. DSS, uses them almost exclusively. AS do Military Intel and army/Navy CIS(DSS=Diplomatic Security Service) out of the country so would the Secret Service, and FBI. (the SIG 228 was an issue weapon in both agencies at one time.)

What ever they use it will be in 9mm. Most available cartridge, world wide.

I would advise a Browning/FN high Power type weapon or a P35 knock off. Found in more countries than any other handgun. Made at various times in of course Belgium, France, Canada, UK, Eastern Europe, South America, Spain and the Philippines. Of course in 9mm.

I do Know the SOG teams in Laos and Cambodia used cleaned P35's on their missions.

go figure.

When I read the title I thought you were talking about Jesus. ;)

Either a Sig or a Colt 1911 for this guy (the small one what's it called a defender?)

Bond's guns

James Bond's ORIGINAL weapons in the first book (Casino Royale) were a .25 Beretta with a taped grip and a long-barreled Colt for longer distances. He kept the Colt in his prewar supercharged Bentley (Bond wasn't particularly low-profile when it came to cars).

I suspect those guns reflect the actual guns that Ian Fleming carried in his own real-life career as a spy. Later, he was advised by a firearms expert to arm Bond with a PPK--but he famously had him carry it in a holster made only for revolvers, a Berns-Martin Triple Draw.

The original Bond books by Fleming are great. The movies, except for "From Russia With Love" and the new Daniel Craig flick, suck. Cubby Broccoli, the producer, generally ignored the books and made up his own fantasy movies under Fleming's titles.

I wouldn't have him carry "a" gun. I presume when you say he is James Bondish that he works for some agency. I'd have the agency supply him with a sterile, local piece on each assignment. Following the completion of the assignment, he disposes of the gun. This neatly avoids all the complications of the gun pointing toward a particular nation, agency, or agent.

PPK would be too James Bond.

I like the Browning High Power in 9mm idea with a Baby Browning backup. (If he was a European type the round would be called a 7.65mm... Here in the US we call it the .32 ACP. Or perhaps he would carry a full size Beretta with a Beretta Tomcat as Backup.

An American type guy from the 1920s would carry a Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless.

A modern American guy might carry a Rohrbaugh 9mm or a Springfield EMP. And a rich guy would find a way to get a Glock 18 (full-auto) and a bunch of 33 round magazines to keep in his briefcase.

A modern European guy would carry an HK or Sig.

How about an M67 90mm recoiless....tucked away in his ankle rig.Hhe could alternate with HEAT and buckshot cannister for ammo in his (Armani) accessory/LBE

Rotflmao

When I read the title I thought you were talking about Jesus.

Monitors need windsheild wipers installed...

I'd say go with a Robar customized SigP225 9mm with an alternate threaded barrel for up close and nasty work quiet.

Oh and a knife. That way you can go three ways, boom, pop, squish!

I think Jesus would carry either a large bottle of red wine,a ( weighted)9shepherds crook, or a large frozen fish...quite effective for smiting oins enemies in the Monty Python "Fish Slapping Dance) sense.

I like the "old, nostalgic but effective" idea. I think that would make a nice contrast to the books where everybody carries a Glock or a non-specific "automatic" :barf:.
A Mauser Broomhandle would be very cool.

Something completely CUSTOM made. Exotic ammo, biometric safety that only allows him to fire the weapon. Exotic sighting system, after all he is a very wealty "James Bond" type.. With todays advancements all this really isn't that "far out".
Be safe.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Makarov:

1. Not a US-made weapon, but reliable.
2. Found everywhere Eastern bloc weapons are found.
3. Ammo, ditto.
4. Flat and concealable.

For wet stuff, a suppressed .22 is ideal. The Ruger automatic is virtually the world standard for this, and therefore doesn't give away the shooter's nationality -- in fact, I'd mimic someone else's techniques (like the Israelis) and use the same ammo they use.

You know I have read all of these post and I must say a high power just hits me right. Don't know why but I can see and classey guy, rich with a high power in a should holster.

A real spook would carry whatever was locally available, and then toss after use. That's what the black market is for.

To quote Robert DiNero's character in 'Ronin' (paraphrasing): "it a toolbox. You pick the tool for the job."

and world wide restrictions would be waved. Ideas?

I have an idea. If you don't know the difference between "waved" and "waived" then you should not be critically appraising a writer's works.

That said, I vote for either a 1911 or an S&W M-27.

I'd say the Rohrbaugh R9S is a good choice, I think that a small semi-automatic would be the best choice for a super spy of this kind. I would always have a larger more powerful backup in the Aston Martin of course.
