What's In Your Range Bag?

I only live 5 miles from my shooting range so I don't need to pack a lot of extra tools, etc.

A couple of items that have come in useful are small package of baby diaper wipes and large plastic trash bag.

Baby wipes are nice for cleaning hands after shooting. I have been stopping and shooting on my way to work frequently this summer so a quick clean-up is nice.

Large heavy duty lawn trash bag has at least half a dozen uses other than putting trash in. Emergency poncho, covering gear from the weather, etc.

Oh I also keep a empty shotshell box. I am a brass rat so I put extra brass that I find on the range in it.

My range bag is pretty light since my range is on the other side of my driveway.

Extra eye protection
Extra ear plugs
Thumbtacks
Flathead screwdriver
Sharpie

Other that that I load it up with whatever ammo, magazines, and paper targets I plan on using before making the 25 yard trek.

ear-pro
staple gun
spare set of eye pro
ammo
gerber multi tool
copper rod and mallet
extra mags
bulls eye targets
target dressings
and a .22lr for plinking when your done with the serious business and just wanna have fun

My match bag usually has:

Gun
Holster rig w/ liner belt.

Magazines
Bag of ammo
Maglula
or
Plano trays with enough loaded moonclips for the match

Eye Pro
Ear Pro Electronic
Extra disposable ear pro foamies

Paster-gun
Shot-timer
Rulebook(s)
Pen
Sharpie

Mag brush
Squib rods
Screwdriver with a bunch of useful bits
Leatherman MUT
Extra fiber for the sights and a lighter
Bottle of LCP
Micro-fiber cloth to clean safety glasses or optics
Work gloves
A few spare batteries (AA, AAA, and an specially optics batteries)

Snacks

Chronograph. Spare magazines. Tools such as stuck a case extractor that might be of immediate need. Printed records for the batch/load being shot. Pen/Pencil to record what happens at the range.

In my case, cleaning is done after I get back "home"; which is usually a 50 yard walk back to the garage. Except for self-defense weapons, the guns almost never go into the house.

Ammunition arrives at the range in a separate bag/arsenal box/ammunition can depending on caliber which you might consider a separate range-bag,

Items get added to or removed from depending on what I am shooting, purpose of the shooting, who I am shooting with, and if this is a PLANNED trip vs just stopping by to shoot what I have on me...I have an Air Force duffle bag (bought by an Uncle, never had the heart to toss it even though I went Army) that will hold anything I can possibly think of bringing.

Chronograph, eye/ear protection, targets, target stands, firearms, ammo. A small enough cleaning kit, some gun specific tools, tape and/or staple gun for putting up targets on stands. And a small first aid kit to handle small boo boos or a significant gun shot wound at a rural range.

Besides all of the "usual" stuff I also use white China markers so I can mark target holes in the black portion of the target (that is when I put any holes in the black portion of the target). I also bring some Wet Wipes to clean up with after I'm done shooting (hold over from when the kids were little). There's both masking tape and transparent tape for holding targets on backers.

My range is out the back door, but i do take my bp rifles to matches.
I have a large plastic toolbox that contains my shooting bag and horn. As far as range stuff:
Stapler/staples
Nikon binos
Small Tupperware container of patches
Bottle of Hoppes BP solvent
Range rod
Asst of jags
Pencil/marker
Screwdrivers
Vicegrips
Toothbrush sized cleaning brushes
Pin punch
Surveyors tape to mark my target/judge wind.

I learned to keep a dowel in my box so I could bop squib rounds out of barrels. It was either that or go home when I got a bad round.

I have some cheap little Tasco binoculars which are very handy for checking targets when shooting pistols.

Also, a bath towel is a good thing to have handy. Ford Prefect was right.

I try and keep all my mags in the bag instead of with the guns because they just get scattered or lost.

1) separate pistol bag with mag holders, cleaning hit holder, gun sleeve, spare holster.
2) rifle mags
3) small shoot n c targets
4) ammo
5) handful of ear plugs incase i forget muffs or someone needs plugs
6) electronic muffs
7) phone wall charger
8) shoot n c pasters
9) free stickers from work for plinking with the 22lr at 100yards or pistol shooting
10) lots and lots of empty brass when i raid the brass buckets! :)
11) Different colored permanent markers.

Man i need to clean out that bag!

Maglula, blue loctite, eyedrops, masking tape, bandaids and first aid tape, needle-nose pliers, allen wrenches, a couple of torx bits, shot timer, spare chamber flags, brass rod, empty gallon ziploc bags for brass, USPSA rulebook, target dots, pasters (tan and white and a few black), ear plugs, muffs, eye pro, progrip or other grip-enhancing goo... all that stuff lives in (or clipped to) the bag. Ammo, guns, and various other items go in depending on the location and purpose of the trip to the range.

Only stuff in my bags I didn’t see above are sunscreen, bug repellent, superglue, trash bags and zip ties.

Thanks for the zip tie idea! Ive needed them more than once and never have them!

Oh and i use my thermacell instead of spray! A lot cleaner.

It looks like about the same stuff most of you listed. I keep a first aid kit in both of our vehicles. If I think I might clean a gun at the range I take my cleaning box. It is an aluminum tool box with my cleaning stuff and also a good selection of tools.

I keep looking at mine, and wondering what I could take out and not miss.

There is a "guppy tool", wrench on one end, pliers on the other. Seems like a cool idea, but I don't remember ever actually using it. If I take it out, will I need it on the next trip to the range?

Then there's a multi-bit pack, with a stubby screwdriver handle and extension. It gets used occasionally, but not often. I wonder if half the bits could come out with no loss of practical function?

The little reverse porro 10x25 binos get used a lot. They stay.

The little shooting notebook gets used a LOT.

I'm an RO, and have often seen people show up at the range with an AR15 and no magazine. At least once, I was one of them. So a 20 round AR magazine is permanently in the kit.

Sunscreen--yes! Imagine bacon sizzling in the pan. That's me on a sunny day. I burn like crazy.

Tiny first aid kit. Don't need it often, but it is very handy to have. It includes two papaya tablets from the health food store. If you're stung by a bee, wasp, or scorpion, crush a tablet, make a paste with water, and slap it on the sting. It's gone instantly. One of the other ROs got nailed by a wasp a week or so ago, and that came in very handy. (I still want to test it on rattlesnake bite. Having a hard time finding a volunteer. :) )

Tape, push pins.

Little bottle of Rem oil.

Muffs and plugs.

Little paper towel "pills". This are paper towels that have been pressed into something that looks like a round mint candy. Add a few drops of water, and the towel unfolds for use. Great for all kinds of clean-up.

Granola bars. If my shooting trip spans mealtime, I don't like to stop.

Spare batteries.

A small amount of cash.

Extra barrel for my RIA TCM combo pistol
rawhide mallet
Dot torture targets

I actually did not realize I take so much stuff but I have needed it all at one time or another for me or a friend.
Probably should take some first aid items...

Pistol Bag:
IFAK
Has a gajillion pockets, so it carries every pistol mag not in the butt (excepting the PD mags)
5x7 notepad for writing stuff down (also good when getting contact info after meeting cool people)
Red & Black sharpie (for notepad or for target marking)
Grease pencil (because, unlike a sharpie, they never go dry)
Small (3'/75mm) straight-blade and phillips-head screwdriver
3x4x1 MTM memory-hinge clear box with multiple >30NRF foam plugs

Rifle Bag
IFAK
Not so many pocekts, so, at least one of every long-arm magazine
5x7 notepad
Red & Black Sharpie
Grease pencil
"Gun" multi-tool
Old surplus NBC mask training kit (a plastic box on a tiny strap with a snap hook) for foam plugs.
There's an internal pocket with a whole raft of chamber flags. It also has two (2) GI segmented cleaning rods (two, because you sometimes need more length)

Both bags have clips (collected at long-ago gun shows) which will hold muffs neatly by the head strap.

The internal space in either bag is more thna enough for many boxes of ammo (or loaded mags).

There's another bag (a cheapo freebie from a previous job) that holds front rear bags, an adjustable shooting rest, and a spare set of folding muffs. With room enough left over for other stuff.

Spotting scope has its own case, which has been upgraded with QD sling posts, so it can have a shoulder strap.
