sounds like a lazy salesman. In my highschool days I worked at Wally World. We had an old geezer that would lie to kids and refused to sell BB guns and paintball guns to anyone under 21. usually that was enough that they would just leave but If people called management he would conviently disappear to the back. And no bulk pack .22 ammo to anyone under 21, because "he diddnt believe anyone that said that it was for a rifle and he wasnt going to jail for thier lies". He had a heart attack in the store while working, bounced back from it though and still works there.

where i live the FFL charges over $100 to do a transfer claiming its bad for business that they want you to buy the gun from their store!!!

This has great potential.

Let me embellish on this idea a bit: Write down the complete serial number on a piece of paper, along with a description of the gun, place the date on the paper, THEN come back a month later and, after the salesman makes his BS spiel, pull the paper out of your pocket and show it to him.

I have done it once and then made a mental note never to go back to that store -- which I have not.

I understand the need to sometimes establish a sense of urgency to secure a sale -- just don't lie to me and get caught in a lie. :D

35 years ago: "If you shoot a man at 15 yards with a 45, and hit him, and he finds out about it, he will probably pick the bullet up, and if he has a slingshot, he will kill you with it."
" The only way you can hit the inside of a barn with a 1911 is if you are inside with the door closed." (Heard this one a lot in the army, most of these guys had pens that couldn't spell, too.)
"If you shoot a 1911 with one hand, the recoil will break your wrist"
15 years ago: " A .357 will shoot completely through an engine block!!"
Last month: "Ruger doesn't make revolvers any more. No market for them"

i also had a guy at a gun show one time that eyed my pistol (CZ 75B) that i had purchased earlier that day at a gun store

Was this guy an Arab, by any chance?

no, he looked like he had a Chinese Background mixed with european or something.
why do you ask?

Yeah we do transfers, $100 transfer fee, and we have a $30 shipping recieving fee. I can order it for you and you'll save $20.

Seems so generous...sounds like new dealer time. :D

Cabelas emloyee told me the taurus 1911 was as good or better than a colt.

I had a gun store employee tell me that Colt and S&W fans actually understand what they're talking about when they say "better"

:)

just kidding ;)

"Remington 870 is better than a Mossberg 500 because of the sound it makes when you rack the slide."

That gem was at a local gunshop, but I swear I can't go within 25 yards of a Bass Pro gun counter without wanting to chuck a nearby box of ammo at the clerks for some of the dumbass stuff they say. The sad part is its usually conversations with other employees, not with customers. I guess stupid is self-perpetuating.

Last time I was there I was looking for replacement decapping pins for some RCBS dies, and both of the guys working behind the counter (one young, one in his 60s) had no idea what I was talking about. I figured it was a long shot that bass pro would stock something like that, but guys that work in the section that sells reloading equipment should at least have a basic knowledge of the process.

tons of gunshow BS today

2 fat dealer sitting at the table, when asked about my AR (del-ton/double star) they went into a pitch saying: You gotta be careful, them del-ton are s--t, so are Double Star, no quality. Those CMMG guns over there are crap too, don't ever buy a Stag.......but hey look , we've got $900 used Rock River you should buy!!!

Saw another dealer at a table with a Marine Tshirt and hat on. being a Poolee i striked up a conversation asking "so what was your MOS in the Corps?". He looked at me stunned and stuttered some "umm, i was , uhh, a captain in the Marine Corps, i don't remember all that military lingo cause i'm retired"

Yeah okay.........

"Yea its an 870 barrel"
Found out that it is but its for a "Special Field" 870 and wont fit a regular
870. A little research and a "Special Field" was a little bird gun with a straight english butt stock on it.

So maybe this will give me an excuse to look for a gun to fit my "new" barrel. Kind of torked me a little because I bought the short barrel for my son to go Squirrel hunting with.

:banghead:Buyer Beware!

It sounded very much like someone I have seen at gun shows.

Took 3 handguns into a shop to see about a trade for a new semi-auto. The total retail value of my trades according to Gunbroker completed sales for comparable quality was $1200. Their offer to take the three in trade was $300 towards the new pistol. Nope, did no business that day.

I forgot the part about trusting my life to a semi-auto pistol instead of a revolver.

Cabelas emloyee told me the taurus 1911 was as good or better than a colt.
Thats not a lie,its an opinion.
Seriously tho i have a PT1911 and never owned a Colt, but id never say the Taurus was better. Its a good gun,but alot of things im not pleased with.Yet i carry it 75% of the time as my main weapon.

My 65 year old dad brought this up recently and i half heartedly had to tell him that wasn't true.

Your guns value should have been 60% of their actual retail, which you say was $1200 so $750 is what i would have expected. Im guessing as it if thats 60% of $1200,i suck at the math.Business is business sadly, sell them yourself to get the highest retail price.
But yeh $300 i would have had a good laugh as i turned and left the store.

Me: Look down the top of this. The scope mounts are off set to the left.
Sales Man: They are made that way because of the way the case ejects.

I look at another one.

Me: Why is this one not like that then?
Sales Man: It is a different model.
Me: They have the same numbers.
Sales Man: It was made before this one.

Later

Me: What kind of ammo do you have?
Sales Man: CCI is the only thing that shoots right in this gun. I bought the same gun for myself last week & the 4x16x40 scope & within 12 rounds I was shooting dimes at 600 yards.
Me: :O .......

I still bought the gun that was $50 cheaper then anyone else & the scoop to give it a try. I cant find a place around here to shoot much over 300 yards but I don't know if I would be able to see a dime at 300 yards with that scope unless it was against a 10' black back drop. Problem is the reticle would be larger then the dime at 300 yards so I don't know how he sees it at 600.

Kingmt wrote that salesman said "I bought the same gun for myself last week & the 4x16x40 scope & within 12 rounds I was shooting dimes at 600 yards.
Me: :O ......."

When folks tell me such stories I change yards to feet and target size similar.
So I "hear" "I shot a single rd that hit a 4" circle ONCE out of 12 shots at 600feet" "or maybe it was 200feet"

Now when you actually find a person who CAN shoot. Its amazing.

I was at a gun show and at the other end of the boot there was a discussion about grips. One of the dealers came to ask his partner what was the better grip. The partner said, tell him this one, we have more of those in stock.

It wasn't really someone trying to sell me a gun, but a friend of mine who was 2 weeks away from leaving for USMC basic training who knew nothing about guns had the nerve to try to tell me about his newly acquired pistol. I don't think he knew I was knowledgeable about firearms but here's what resulted.

Me: Oh, that's a pretty nice Beretta. Did you get it at the same place where you got your Sig a few months ago?
Him: Yep. From Williams Gun Sight right down the street. I only buy American made.
Me: .....Um. Beretta isn't an American manufacturer.
Him: You're stupid. Do you even know what you're talking about? Wow..
Me: You can't be serious right now.
Him: Alright, let's go look it up online.

I happily oblige, and we go to look it up. You can only imagine the look of stupidity on his face when he saw that the Beretta was an Italian manufacturer. Then he tried to play it off like "Oh, well I knew that anyway." It was a quiet ride home, LOL.

Correct...but, many of their firearms are made in the US. The Beretta model 92 (amongst others) is currently made in America (has also been produced in Italy). OTOH the "all-american" Browning is made in Japan...mind boggling isn't it? :D
