What's Your Favorite 22 Rifle

For purely sentimental reasons, my favorite is the first firearm I ever got, a single shot Remington Model 514. It was a gift on my 14th birthday in 1958. It still puts a smile on my face every time I shoot it.

I was 14 in 1957 and, on Christmas of that year, I received a single-shot, Winchester Model 67 rifle from my father. How I cherished that little .22 over the many years since! On Christmas of last year, the little Winchester found its way under the tree in the home of a deserving grandson. Parting is such sweet sorrow...:( :)

The late model Winchester 52B Sporter was one of the finest shooting rifles that I have owned. Then there was a pair of CZ 452's that ran a close second. One was a 22LR and the other a 17Mach II. Oh, I almost forgot about the Marlin 2000. I never scoped it, but I did learn to shoot with a peep. It was fun.

My favorite .22 is my Remington 572. It's been with me about 47 years now. I bought it second hand from a hardware store in my hometown with paper route money. Still wears its iron sights. I had to replace the extractor a few years ago, but it shoots very well, indeed.
Lots of memories in that little rifle....

I'd have to go with my Marlin 881. i picked it out at the local Coast to Coast hardware store, after agonizing over all the other .22's they had. Chrisstmas came around, and the Marlin was under the tree. i couldn't begin to guess how many rounds ive put through it, but wouldn't be surprised if it was in the tens of thousands.....i shoot it still today at 39, and ive had it since i was 12. its spent many days in prairie dog towns, where i learned through experience about windage and holdover, regularly hitting prairie dogs over 100 yards oftentimes surprising folks who hadn't seen me do it before. cottontails, jacks, even a few grouse and turkey, probably a few raccoons and badgers.....that gun almost functions as an extension of me, far more so than any other firearm. Its not my only .22 by any means.....but it just as well be...it can do anything i'd ever ask of a .22, and sometimes more. i'm not a superior marksman, average if that....but we all have, or should have, a gun that makes us look like a pro, and this basic .22 bolt is mine.

My favorite .22 RF rifle is my squirrel gun, a Browning T-bolt Sporter outfitted with a Nikon 4x32 Rimfire Scope with 50 yard parallax. It is scary accurate, to the point that I can make running head shots on squirrels. It, in the words of Col. Townsend Whelen, is "an interesting rifle".

My Remington 504, have had it for 47 years- bagged an 18# armadillo with a short as 25 yds under a full spring moon last week-felt like I was 7 again.

Lots of good ones, a tie for me between a pretty old Stevens 55 single shot and a Browning SA22.

I currently have only two. Ruger 10/22 which is perfect and my new S&W M&P 15-22 which is waay too much fun. Right now it's the M&P.

I have 103 firearms in 22, I have a 22LR reamer and barrels so I could build one out of a failed 17 HMR or 17 M2 project.
The ones that are really nice to look at are:
Colt Camp Perry
Colt Officer's Model
Browning semi auto rifle
Remington rolling block No 4
Winchester 52
Basically the old classic stuff.

The ones that are good to shoot:
Rem 510
Win 69A
Ruger 10/22 with Volquartsen and Kidd parts
Rem 572 pump
S&W K-22
Rem 550-1
And the best...... Win 61 pump that will cycle CCI CB shorts when upside down.

I have an old Winchester 69A bolt action .22 The I've had since I'm 15 years old. That rifle went everywhere with me, had a lot of fun times with that rifle.
I kinda inherited it from my father, really I just took it back then because nobody wanted it.
Still have it and will never part with it!;)

This is what it looks like but scope is a little different. I figure someday I'll pass it down to a grandson!

I own 3 22 rifles, used to be more, but got rid of the ones I did not like to shoot.

Own: Savage MKII BTVSS (stainless model);

Mossberg 340BB,

Marlin 882 SS in 22mag

I bought the savage new (~$400) and the others used got both of them for around $100. Had a 10/22T that I sold, it was a decent and accurate rifle, but I didnt really like shooting it and it would periodically go through fits where it would FTE/FTF I think this was due to the aftermarket stock, and I eventually got it adjust out, but, by then I wanted something else.

In any case, the 3 above are my favorites. On the range the savage gets the nod, off hand, the mossberg for 22 and for longer range the 882 (22 mag).

Oh, I just remembered, I also have a Rossi matched pair (22 and 410) great little backpacking combo, and ready to drop in my go bag.

Winchester model 06. Unlc loaned those to me so I could learn to shoot. That was over 50 years ago. He gave it to me last year

Clank, the neighbor had a Win 06 when I was 12 and we hunted with it.
Last year when I was 65 I found on in a pawn shop made in 1909 that was broken.
Many parts from the old homestead later, I have it running again.

Right now, it would have to be my GSG-5, as it's just more fun than anything at the range, including all my handguns, which I generally prefer. I do have Bunting Bullpup though, that I've never shot, and intend to this year, so who knows, that GSG's dominance MAY be in question.

An old Marlin model 60 with Williams Firesights.
It's magically accurate at 100+ yards.

Holdover is about 15 inches at 100 yards.

I think its cool to see no matter what guns are in the safe....those little .22s are loved. I currently have 5 .22s but the two that share the top slot are my grandfathers Rem. mod 510, single shot, and the Savage mod. 24, .22/410. I still hunt with the Savage and have no hint as to number of rounds through it. It was my choice for hunting and plinking from 1960 to now. (dang, that seems like a long time ago) oh, well.
