Let's answer some questions, and address some concerns.
ThatGuyHank: None of these have been fabricated as of yet. I can still tweak anything I need to. For a thumbhole, I would wait to drill and shape the hole until last. Say I opened up a business doing these stocks. I'd make a few of these stocks up to keep for inventory. I get an order for say a right handed stock, I drill at an angle through the right side of the stock. I get an order for a southpaw, I drill through the left. Final shaping and what-have-you will follow.
I'm a shooter, and I know comfort and egronomics are an important part of marksmanship, so I'd be willing to make the customers happy and make the stock work for them. I'd be willing to fit the stock to the individual with the specific dimensions included.
Brian923: As stated above, none of these have been made. Weight is a speculation and greatly depends on the process for making the stock. A laminated stock would probably weigh a little more. One with a steel bedding block would be a little weight as well.
My speculations for a walnut stock, just inletted to the rifle without the bedding blocks I'd say a little over two pounds, but I could be mistaken. The stocks shouldn't be too heavy until you get into the idea of a stock set up with the Magpul PRS buttstock assembly. What I'd need to do there is machine some blocks up to go on the back of the stock and straddle the rear action screw, with a plate that can accept a AR-15 buffer tube.
However, with the buffer tube, I'd probably have a few machined out of solid aluminum for weight as well as durability (though I'm not sure how the MAGPUL PRS installs on the AR-15, anyone who has one, can you clarify if it slides over the buffer tube?) so that way the rifle will be quite a bit more comfortable, but I'm sure the rifle would weigh around 12 or so pounds complete.
KAMAK: I'll check that website out. I love the SV-98 and if possible, I'd like to make my own. Maybe make a stock that looks like it in the near future?
I appreciate the support so far guys. With some luck, maybe I could make this a business.
