Driving to the store last night with the wife caused me to think orange (as usual) when we entered the store.

Scenario:

You and the wife are squeezing the bread deciding on which is the most fresh when you hear two shots and some screaming. Two seconds later I take Deb to a place I can defend. As we pass some people (shots were on the other side of the store) I tell them to folllow us. There are about six or seven of us when a guy crouch steps up to us, sees my semi-auto, flips out a local LEO badge and informs me that he left his gun in the car and for me to pass him my gun.

if he is an LEO and doesn't have his gun than what good is he? he probably is not better than you with your gun.

on a side note, when i carry i carry with a BUG. i don't think i would have a problem with lending him my BUG

You can get badges in any surplus store. MY gun is for MY defense, not to provide as a loaner to cops that "forgot" theirs. He'd have to work pretty hard to convince me to hand it over.

Sure, right after I get my family to safety...follow me if you want it...

The extra guns I carry will be handed out to my family first. In order:

1 - My son gets one (he shoots a lot with me and does a pretty good job).
2 - My wife gets one (she shoots with us, but probably not as good as son).
3 - Bystander/police (I always have two guns, sometimes as many as four on me so it is possible for this person to get lucky).

As we pass some people (shots were on the other side of the store) I tell them to folllow us.

You & I parted ways right there.

I don't carry a gun to arm some stranger.

PS In the highly unlikely event that the robber was an American Indian the cops wouldn't have to worry about catching him because my wife would be chasing him around the store with a shoe telling him what a disgrace he was to our People.

I think I would have to agree with rondog any one can get a badge - for all I know that guy is a plant to unarm people.

My gun is exactly that "MY GUN"...

LOL

...backup...

I'm picturing the squeaky old Colt Navy conversion that Herod gives Cort in The Quick and the Dead, with one round...

If the cop uses your gun, are you happy with the idea of being sued by whoever he shoots or their next of kin? You picked out that gun, you loaded it, you modified it or neglected to properly modify it, you are 100% responsible. The whole hollow-point versus jacketed versus reloaded debate. You're in the least-defensible position you could possibly be. You'll find out that the plantiffs settled with the city/county, and the city/county sold you down the river by stipulating to anything that got them off the financial hook.

How exactly do you plan to recover your gun? Is your state well-known for returning evidence and property to people in a timely fashion, when they don't have receipts? Or would it be realistic to suspect that it'll go for finger-printing and ballistics testing before returning?

As a different scenario to ponder: if that badged individual (we won't call him a cop) grabs for your weapon, tries to take it off of you, are you willing to fight back to keep it from him?

I'm still trying to imagine how he'd leave his in the unit.

I'd demand identification (more than a flashed badge) before I let him near me, but the whole scenario is pretty silly. I'd be running too fast to hear a darned thing anyone said, and wouldn't stop to converse about gun rentals.

I'll use this thread as an example to address many, many others I've been reading too....

Personally, I'm getting sick of these "cop bashing" threads and stories on THE HIGHROAD....IMHO

Seems like a new one sprouts up every damn day. (The cop did this, the cop did that, blah, blah, blah). Can't you find another forum somewhere else if you want to do this?

Yes...this particular post is very "tame" compared to some others, so maybe it's just the straw that is breaking my back, but where does it get us, really??

Maybe a few people should be researching "THE LOWROAD" instead.....

This is a forum is intended to foster the LAWFUL and SAFE use of firearms, promote LEARNING and SHARING INFORMATION to BENEFIT ALL OF US. Think about that the next time you post nonsense. Learning from experience....I've done it myself.....but c'mon guys. Enough is enough....or go somewhere else.....
