As far as I know, there aren't any shooting ranges local to me. Gotta drive 20 minutes to an hour for the nearest ones. I'm OK with that. A lot of the times the "good" ranges you gotta pay for.
Anyway, I found out that the local college has an indoor shooting range on campus that rents guns. Because it's on a college campus, if anyone wants to bring in their own pistols to shoot at the range, they have to get permission from the campus police department, which entails providing the make, model, and serial number of any gun(s) you wanna bring on campus. Not to mention your social security number, driver's license, and all the questions (are you a felon? are you a fugitive?) you'd find on Form 4473. This range permit lasts for one school year and must be renewed every school year.
There's no registration of any kind (that I know of) in Missouri. This is a special case because it's a college campus. The permit is to carry one's unloaded pistol directly to and from the range (which is understandable).
Everything about this seems understandable, but I'm fairly against gun registration in any way, shape, or form because I think it's nobody's business. Would you be comfortable registering your guns for the convenience of a shooting range that is a 5 minute drive away, or would you rather keep your privacy and drive 30-60 minutes for a range that's an actual business?
