ok, here we go!!!!!

forgive all the pics but im gonna need help with the official score so i wanted to get really good close-ups of each diamond as well as the entire page.

the rifle: its a really old (25 years) 10/22 with a green mountain ss target barrel, hogue stock, voltsquarten hammer, and buffer technologies buffer. the scope is a simmons 6x20x50mm with target turrets and adjustable objective lens.

the target page, then closeups of each diamond.

and last but not least, the reason i decided the position class might be a problem.

help me out with the score fellas!!!!!

by the way, on the center bull, i would not count that upper right hand one as a hit in the black. its too close to call, so dont count it.

FlyinBryan, OUCH!! and I speak from personal experience, US Army Special Forces Sniper my career and life almost ended in 94 when helicopter we were on went down, all 4 crewman and 9 team members died that morning, only myself, my spotter and the Lt. survived the crash. Spent almost 11 months in the hospital. Got several places that look like that, lol. Had surgery on neck and right shoulder almost 4 years ago that has allowed me to get back into shooting. As far as my Ruger is concerned it is about 85% stock Ruger. It was a limited production, 1500 made. The barrel is hammer forged factory Ruger as well as the stock. I have replaced the buffer with Buffer Tech as well, upgraded most of the springs, cleaned up the bolt assembly and receiver, and polished up the trigger group and got the pull set right at 2 lbs. I think the main issue you may have might be with the ammo, that Ruger of yours should make one small hole. It took almost forever to find what mine liked, shot every match grade ammo that exists, hates them all! Won't group, more like patterns, great for a shotgun not so much for a rifle. Had the same results with with the hyper velocity ammo. It likes CCI Mini-Mags, have yet to have a malfunction with them and when I do my part the groups are super.

Oh, almost forgot. Found another problem with the rifle besides the screw coming loose. It would appear that my Leupold has gotten sick, target is blurry past 9 power at any distance, well to 100 yards. Thought I was getting some mirage the other day outside but did the same at indoor range this afternoon.

We'll have to see what gvnwst says, but my abacus puts it at 42 with no simpathy points ;).
I can see why the pos shoot would be a problem.
Man...you're draggin' around a lot of metal there, Igor (jest).
Did the bike fare any better?

dang ortman, sorry to hear about your team. but im glad your here!!!!!

ya, sounds like you do know where im coming from on the ankle deal. it really dont give me too much trouble in the summer if i dont go overboard with what i try to do on it, but ive really got to be standing, or sitting. any kneeling where i have to bend my foot upward toward my chin can be noisy as well as excrutiating.

as far as my groups today, i think your right. ive had much better groups with the rifle before, but i just put a scope on it ive never tried before, and was shooting bulk bass pro ammo. normally my 5 shot groups at 50 are all touching, but thats with different ammo than i had today. i havent shot it in a few months, and i think i can tighten it up quite a bit, and will definitly be shooting more targets to enter in the standard class.

lol, with my leg and all i think your score is safe in the position class (to be honest though, i think you would be safe even if i had two good ones, lol, cuz thats an awesome entry you shot)

my goal is going to be a perfect score in the standard class. i dont know if i can pull it off, but its going to be fun trying!!!

bryan.

Did the bike fare any better?

lol, actually, it fared a lot better, in fact, it wasnt damaged at all!!!!

i didnt actually drop it. it never hit the ground till i rolled to the bottom of the hill and stepped off onto my good leg, then i just let go of it and let it fall over. it was a motocross bike, and i decided to try a 60 foot triple, and unfortunately, i only jumped 55, so my crankcase landed on the peak of the hill i was trying to land on the backside of. the doctor said it was a "pylon fracture"

well im actually coming up with a different figure.

im seeing 41.

let me read the points system again

I am also seeing Bryan's score as (3*3*5) - 2 - 1 = 42. The center target hit outside the bull is in 2 point land (-1). The hit outside the bull in target #1 is a one pointer (-2).

I guess gvnwst will make the call.

hey hunt,

oh, ok, i got it, that one miss in target 1 i was counting as zero. i guess for some reason i was thinking that if it wasnt in the black or the white, it was zero.

so it looks like:

bull 1 is 7pts
bull 2 is 9pts
bull 3 is 8pts
bull 4 is 9pts
bull 5 is 9pts.

ya, i see 42 that way. i was counting that one in the gray as a zero for some reason. i think just because it was so much farther out than everything else, lol.

we will let the director endorse it before i post it on the scoreboard though, but i see how you score them now. i had a brain toot.

edit: its a lot tougher than it looks, lol.

i also just noticed that i didnt post a closeup of diamond number 5, and i counted all three as hits in the black, but to tell you the truth, its really close.

heres a closeup of it and you guys should call it because its close (it does look like a touch to me is the reason i counted it, and dont ask me why i didnt include the pic, lol, my brain is tired)

lol, ya, unfortunately!!!!!!

by the way, thx for helping me get the scoring thing, that 1st bull miss was thrownin' me a loop

If you guys buy a rim gage it will clear up your ammo problems a bit, even with bulk ammo. I shouldn't be telling all my secrets, but hey its for fun right, and also its not like a rim gage is a secret. lol.:D

thanks gvnwst.

sorry for getting sorta off topic on why i couldnt shoot the position class, but i figured after talking a big game, then getting served up some crow when i tried to kneel (lol) an explanation was in order.

(almost glad i couldnt cuz that ortman is a deadeye!!!!

Clint I have a rim guage and have tried to use it but I have not found it makes a difference for me. I even have a sorting block for the different thickness.

what is a rim gauge and what do you use it for?
Basically, it measures the thickness of the rim, and so, the primer. The more consistant the rim is, the more consistant igniton it will give, or something like that. :D
And Helz....play nice. :p:D

It may not make a difference with semi-auto rifles. It keeps my bolty from having a "flyer" though. Rim gages also keep your head spacing consistant. The more consistant your ammo is the better.

lol, helz is my shooting bud and, after months of jealosy, he is finally going to anniston for a garand.

excellent, i must have one.

wait, could a fella just use calipers?
