This one is open to any and EVERY 22 caliber rimfire rifle including 22 mag. This match is meant to be challenging and FUN. Hopefully it will get you out to the range and shooting your rifle.

You may enter with multiple rifles.

Scoring
Take ONE shot at each dot, for a total of 15 shots. The hole touching or inside largest dot is worth one point. The slightly smaller dot below it is worth 2 points, the dot below it is worth 3 points, the dot below it is worth 4 points and the smallest dot on the bottom is worth 5 points. 45 total points are possible.

And to make this a little more interesting... IF ALL five shots in one of the vertical columns are CLEARLY FULLY inside the black a bonus of 10 extra points per column will be awarded. 30 possible bonus points + 45 = perfect 75 score

Range
25 yards for iron sights and non-magnified optics and red dots

50 yards for any Scope or Magnified sighting device.

Just to add from April's competition topic and the target, I think the reason not so many people competed is it really was a scope only target. with irons all you could really see was a white piece of paper. I'm all for switching up a target, but the iron guys have to be able to see it.

Now, lets have some fun.

I've been way too busy but hope to shoot this month. My 17 year old granddaughter wants to give it a try too. She is short on experience but long on enthusiasm and will probably outshoot me as I think we will do the unscoped target and she's got those young eyes.

Ask Mal if you don't believe me, but lots of good rifle work was done on targets the shooter couldn't see. However, it would be nice if we had a slim chance to make a perfect score. :) Not picking on you gvnwst, you are doing a good job and I thought last month's target was shootable with irons. We all (irons) had the same handicap. That's fair. Not being able to actually see the target well may have been the most realistic part of it last month. Was fun for me anyway, but I understand Clint's point.
I'll get to the range on FRI and shoot this one.

I have never tried one of these -- but its printed and tempting me now!

You all will have to talk to me about scopes for a dedicated bench/target .22 sometime.

gvnwst, thanks for posting this. I had fun today with it.

Weather was 80-80F, ~65% humidity, wind 5-10MPH and sunny. Both rifles were fired while seated at a bench, with rifle fore end on a sand bag.

I didn't do as well with the first one.

The BRNO did great! I'm ready for spring squirrel season.

gv... I'm not that imaginative to come up with how to score it... that I will leave to the hosts of the contest... but, 5 five shot groups would work as a start for me... if you print one out, you can get a better idea of what it really looks like, and you can put it out in the yard and freak the neighbors errr I mean to get a general idea of how it looks at distance...

Cheers...

I think ill do that, but my neighbors will need a spotting scope to see me.:D I live on a farm, so the nearest person is a half mile away on the other side of the valley.

Okay, for scope guys with at least 7x mag, it should be fine, for those with more, even better. Someone with irons will have to check it for that though.

That target looks okay for Irons.

About scoring, how about:

Corner Bulls:
5 shots on each target bull.
3 points for each round in the bull. Total of 15 per.
1 point for each round in the colored area.

Center Bull, same as Corners except:
2 points for each round in the colored diamond outside the bull, 1 point for each round in the outer diamond.

10 extra points for all 5 rounds in a bull. [ EDIT: Or making a single hole that intersects the bull ]

Max points = 15 * 5 = 75
Max bonus = 10 * 5 = 50
Max score = 75 + 50 = 125.

By the way, I'm seeing grimjaw's score as:

Scoped Marlin:
12 + 12 + 11 = 35, no bonus

Scoped BRNO:
11 + (15 + 10) + (15 + 10) = 61. Good shooting!

finally got to shoot

HuntandFish, thanks but I think you're being generous on the BRNO target. I accept your generosity. ;)

I'm going to try again standing up with a makeshift rest to simulate something like a tree trunk. Great practice to get ready to stock up for squirrel stew.

Target Suggestion

Anyone up for position shooting?

These targets simulate long range silhouettes from 25m for irons & 50m for optics.
Instructions & scoring are at the bottom of the targets.

What think you?

Too many good target choices. How about this, next months match, we use the target Schleprok62 suggested, AND yours. So, anyone who wants the challenge of 4 position shooting can do that, and whoever just wants to shoot BR or however they chose can still do that. Like it?

I like the idea of position shooting, but I can't open the targets. I will also compete in the bench rest, I love the bench rest game. Just a suggestion though, maybe make it three or four shots per square. I hate shooting up so much ammo. lol, I guess you get a little tight when you don't have a job.

BUMP, will do try tomorrow (weather permitting), feel free to unleash the unending tirade if I fail to deliver (on trying not winning) this month. :)

Basically the targets are reduced silhouettes. As for BR, i was meaning the normal target, which you are allowed to shoot any way you want, BR, prone, standing, ect. I agree, lets make it 3 shots per bull, then you have 15 shots per target, same as the current target. Also, on the silhouette targets, instead of 5 rounds per target, 3 also? We scoped guys are going to have a ball shooting that thing at 50yd offhand.:D:D:D
