I’ve been loading 5gr of Red Dot under a 230gr in .45ACP for a long time. Lead, plated, jacketed, painted, it doesn’t matter; the same 5gr always works and works well.Trying to expand my knowledge base I broke out the red dot and my Lee 451-230-tc cast boolit and loaded up a ladder of 45acp. I've worked with red dot a little in 38 but that was it. I'll play with this combination till I have something to document for juniors load notes, and then maybe play with more in 45c. The Lee book said the start and max load was 4.0 grains. Alliant said max was 5.1. I loaded 4.3-5.1 ten each for testing. My inital inclination is that 5.1 will be the load based on max not plus p being the best in 38. Only testing will reveal the truth!!!!!View attachment 1200517
Good to know, I guess I'm not barking up the wrong tree.... I just could not get on with the 4.0 Lee load... it seemed short... I hope to run them this range day "Saturday" if not raining...I’ve been loading 5gr of Red Dot under a 230gr in .45ACP for a long time. I’ll be interested to see what happens. I’ve been curious and staring at the old 15lb keg of red dot…Good to know, I guess I'm not barking up the wrong tree.... I just could not get on with the 4.0 Lee load... it seemed short... I hope to run them this range day "Saturday" if not raining...
You have that much you need to Google "the load" and start putting that stuff in everything...I’ll be interested to see what happens. I’ve been curious and staring at the old 15lb keg of red dot…

I really love blue dot. I will become well acquainted with red dot before I hunt down green dot. Green dot is supposed to be close to unique and universal, so I'm sure it will be useful as well.Ya. 308… 7mm… 250 savage… lol.
I got it from an old school shotgun reloader. Has on of the old metal scoops in it.
It’s a versatile powder. One of the early 1930’s line of new powders - including 2400 and Herco - introduced after DuPont was divested by the courts and Hercules took ownership of the brand (1912).I’ll be interested to see what happens. I’ve been curious and staring at the old 15lb keg of red dot…
