The 336 Club

Here is the latest addition to my stable and my submission to join the club. I have only fired her once, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Not really being a rifle guy, something I am seriously trying to change, I assumed this gun was going to have considerable more kick than it did. An extremely pleasant gun to shoot and a lot of fun to boot. I've always thought levers were cool, but I have a feeling I am going to be serious lever convert. I think I see a .22lr lever in my near future.

It's tough to see the way I edited, but the buttstock is black neoprene available through Amazon. It's a tad loose on the 336, but the small hole I cut for the sling point anchors it pretty well. I have amatching sling on the way.

Both are synthetic since I don't have a few hundred to drop on leather, but they still look good IMO.

Alright, my last bit of 336 pr0n in its final configuration. Cost for the buttstock and sling: $21.00. That's six in the pipe and twenty nine in reserve. For what? I have no idea. But it's damn sexy

336C here Actually had two at one point

Gotta love the marlin 336 . here is a old beater i found at a yard sale one day! gave the gentleman $150 for it. looked like someone tied it to the truck and drug it down a dirt road . SO I stripped it down. Parkarized all the metal on it even the screws, Teflon coated it in a color called coyote , inside and out, and then i dipped my old beat up wood stock in a camo pattern called BONZ . Turned out to be a really nice gun and a great shooter with hornady leverevolution. cant wait to try it out in a few days on some TX pigs

GAM36....Is your 336rc new or used. I ask because I have had a 336rc since 1956. Mine has micro-groove. Was made in 1956 and bought in Alaska. sbs

Hey Kids, real quick----I just stumbled across a Marlin 336 in .307 Winchester. Really a gorgeous rifle in great condition. The stock(s) have some very cool checkering, a carved cougar's face near the butt, and.....(get this), real obsidian arrowheads let-in on both stocks, on both sides. Truly unique. A quick Wiki search says that Marlin made a few prototypes in .307.....but nothing for retail sales.

Anyone ever hear of this? Btw, this one I saw is scoped, and they're asking $695.00.....

Do you reload? Me not being a collector (though I have a lot of Marlins), the guns I own I shoot as often as possible.

Be sure to post pictures if you manage to procure it.

It could be A rebarreled conversion. Nice rifle.

Might have been a sales gimmick that they put together or a commemorative special for something?

My Speer manuals indicates that USRAC made a rifle in .307, based on the Win. 94. Also, indicates that Marlin also produced a rifle in .307, 336 0f course. The manual shows loads for bullet weights from 100gr to 170gr. How much are they asking for the rifle pictured? sbs

They have $695.00 written on the tag. I'm still trying to get some info on this gun to see if indeed it was one of the original Marlin prototypes (or not). And if it truly is, would it be worth adding to my collection. I'm gonna go back over tomorrow morning with a bore light and my camera and see what other markings I can find on her. She really is a conversation piece, either way......

I like the looks of it - quite a bit actually. I just wonder how practical it would be to take out shooting/hunting. Would the arrows cut up your hands or be brittle enough to break or pop out.

Well my curiosity got the better of me and I ran back over there to give it another look. Didn't open the bolt/action but the condition of this is really, really nice. Took it up to the counter and asked one of the salesman to tell me everything he knew about it. He's thinking it's a very nicely done custom job based on the 336/30-30. Reworked barrel and receiver, and the custom stock. NO WHERE on this girl does the word Marlin show up. In fact this gun has absolutely zero markings of any type. So I'm tending to agree with the store guy, and that this is (unfortunately) not a true Marlin prototype. Oh well, it's still a bitchin rifle and if anyone here is interested, I'd be more than happy to give them all the details on it---just ping me......

That's a serious custom. Looks like a slow rust blue - maybe $300 just for that? Too rich for my blood - I'm a bottom feeder

Well, too bad that we're leaving on our month long vacation next Saturday, because we're actually headed to your state and I would have been more than happy to bring it over to you---unfortunately we still have that stupid 10 day waiting period in Kali, so I wouldn't have had the time. But if you're really interested, I'm sure they'll ship it to you. If you want their phone number and a contact name at the store, let me know. I'm sure Ellen would cut you some sort of deal on the pricing, i.e. no Kali sales tax, no Kali Dros fee.

Where are you going in Fla.?

I understand, B/L. In the meantime we've got a dinner date with some friends in Perdido Key on the 9th, then we're gonna rent a little beach house somewhere south of Destin (Cape San Blas? St. Joe Bay?), sit on our tourist butts for about five days there and then look around for some acreage to buy up near the Laurel Hill/Dufunkiak Springs/Baker area before continuing on up towards the Carolinas and Virginia. We really have had it with this gawd-4-saken state and I need to get out of it before I end up on the 10:00 news......

North Fla. is nice. so Fla Sucks!!!
